Ole Sereni Hotel

Nairobi, Kenya

The hotel

The Ole Sereni is the only hotel in Nairobi that borders a National Game Park – so, if you like wildlife and luxury combined, this is the hotel for you! Whilst you’re relaxing in the bar or the restaurant or even beside the rooftop pool, keep your eyes peeled for incredible sightings of animals in their natural surrounds. All rooms at the Ole Sereni, referred to as a ‘place of tranquillity’ by the Massai Tribe, are very comfortable indeed with mod-cons galore. For eats, look no further than the aptly named Big Five Restaurant and Bar. Boasting an open kitchen style, feast on a range of global dishes accompanied by a glass or two of fine wine. The Waterhole Snack Bar is another wonderful place to while away an evening, relaxing on the verandah with a drink as the sun sinks slowly into the horizon.

It’s a decent cosy place to relax. Specially if u want to be connected to nature as well as city. And with good people around u. For business it would be recommended only if u have your clients coming in to meet you. But for reaching client it’s not a good option as u would not like to leave the place during your stay.

This is a review on two levels - one for staying at the hotel overnight and another for a visit to the restaurant on a different night. We had a very short stay at Ole Sereni when we first arrived in Nairobi from the US before we left early the next morning for a flight out to safari. The security to get into the hotel is intimidating to those not used to going through xray and a metal detector as normal protocol! There was a mostly dead cockroach in our room as we went to shower for the night. Yuck. Other than that, the night was pleasant and the included breakfast buffet in the morning was tasty. Not much else to say, as we literally spent about 7 hours in the hotel during our overnight. We returned to the hotel to kill some time before our very late flight out of the country on our way home. The snack bar was full so we went to the Big Five Restaurant, which was a mistake on our part. They were having a buffet, which proved to be extremely expensive! By the time all was said and done, it was nearly $200 for two adults and two children, with food that was mediocre at best and almost inedible (way overly salted) at worst. Even our son, who has a huge appetite, only went back for seconds of fruit, not the actual food. Overall, a disappointing experience at Ole Sereni. Read less

Spent 2 nights in Nairobi before departing for Masai Mara. Great place to decompress and acclimate to East Africa after a long flight from the Eastern part of the U.S. Friendly staff, good dining options.

Ole Sereni was our abode for 3 nights in Nairobi Kenya- we stayed here for 2 nights before we went to the Reserves and then 1 night on our way back home due to proximity to domestic and Intl Airports. Despite all our bookings being confirmed months in advance by the Travel Agent, checkin took way longer (45mins) This was a frustrating experience especially after a 18 hour travel. Once checked in, everything else flowed smoothly. Rooms were comfortable and practical. Had A/C, bathrobes, safe, slippers. Dinner was Alacarte and food quality was brilliant. Having an Indian chef made it easy for us to get vegetarian choices. The breakfasts were elaborate and brilliant. A hair salon, swimming pool, sauna/steam room gave it the spa touch for those tired guests. A gift shop is handy. The lobby is large and has a bar/cafe with lot of seating options. The best part of this hotel is that it borders with the Nairobi National Park. We could see zebras/Imphalas grazing around. The cats did not wander here. We requested for a reserve facing room for the night on our return. The sofa’s in the dining area need some extra cleaning as I saw small roaches creeping out. And as the weather was cold in Nairobi keeping all the terrace doors wide open did not help us much. We had to request the staff to close them - which was not always possible. The highlights of this Hotel are friendly service, Park Views, comfortable rooms, great food, proximity to both Domestic and International airports. I would definitely recommend this place for short trips. Read less
