Cape Town, South Africa

The hotel

The upmarket ‘Gardens’ district sits at the foot of Table Mountain adjacent to the Company Gardens – an oasis within the CBD and the Parliament buildings. It is a great location choice for a new ‘design’ hotel- a contemporary space stacked with amenities to serve as a great base for work and play with unsurpassed views of Table Mountain. With a décor that is very urban Manhattan it’s unsurprising that a visionary developer from the NYC group was a partner. Although, the Murano Bar is definitely more Vegas like with its 20,000 links Murano chandelier, red drapes, velour banquettes and gilt framed chairs... wonderfully kitsch. The Judges Lounge has a little more gravitas in reference to nearby Parliament and High Court - its walls are adorned with 700 law books (although there is also a bright white snooker table). A 7-storey atrium is the heart of the hotel with a lounge space of its own and the 7th floor spa is a must.

By far the best service I got from any hotel. They cater for all your needs and the most friendly staff. My highlight from this Hotel was the service from the professional Rita Loubser. Dont know what the Hotel would do without her. The Hotel is perfect for events like bridal showers and to top it all off..the food is amazing!!

My name is Ron Liono and I am currently staying at this hotel, and I am a lifetime titanium customer for Marriott, having stayed with the brand for 15+ years. The hotel is located centrally in Cape Town and has a beautiful lobby. There are 5 things that ticked me off significantly which led me to not come back and stay at this hotel ever again, and won't recommend others to stay here, unless they have no choice. 1. I wanted to use suite upgrades, and one day before check-in I followed-up to ask for the status. They said they had upgraded me. What they did not disclose is they upgraded me complementarily to the normal suite, not to the 2-bedroom suite that I had originally requested and wanted to consume my suite upgrades. The agent did not fully clarify the nature of the upgrade, which led me to eventually cancel my suite upgrade request, to avoid the risk of getting upraded to a room that I never originally asked for AND lost my suite upgrade balance. Communication was very confusing with the agent at the hotel, and I escalated this to the GM and she did not care about it and never responded. The GM name is Carolyn Jones. 2. Upon check-in, they wanted to charge me for the FULL balance of the stay, instead of blocking the card and settled the bill at the end of stay. Nobody communicated this policy until I checked-in. Over the course of 15 years staying at hotels all over the world, credit cards were always blocked and never charged till the end. If this is the hotel specific policy, I demand from Carolyn Jones to show me the policy. Of course I had not other option but basically gave my credit card to them for them to charge me before I got to my room. I would have been fine if they had told me about it or at least disclosed this special policy on their website, and not charged it until customers had no other option and already stood in front of the reception to check-in. This is robbery. I know that hotels wanted to do that when guest stay long stay, but I am only staying here for 4 nights only, and my total bill is only like $700. Are they concerned that a lifetime titanium customer would not settle his bill and run away without paying the $700? This is peanut cost for me. I clearly felt being discriminated by this hotel, and they had assumed I would not be able to settle my bill. 3. This is small, but still could have been better. Attention to detail is always key in hospitality, but they failed. It says spa and pool are located on the 7th floor, per the sign inside the elevator. That's inaccurate. In fact, the spa is being renovated, they said, so there is no spa, but there's no sign in the hotel or inside the elevator that informed guests on that. Also, the pool exists, but not on the 7th floor; it's on the 1st floor. As I said, my biggest concern is definitely #1 and #2 above. Incident #2 definitely killed everything. It is never about the money. It is about how you disclose the way you do business. As I said, I demand to see their specific policy charging customers upon check-in, instead of at the end of stay. The hotel was clean and our room had a stunning view of Table Mountain. BUT - I booked this hotel because of the rooftop bar and pool - when I enquired about these I was told they had been sold to a private buyer. Surely this should have been represented when I booked. Being a longtime platinum member, I expected better communication. Read less

My husband and I stayed at 15 on Orange during our trip to Cape Town. We stayed using points as Marriott Rewards members. The hotel has a great central location and perfect for exploring Cape Town for the first time. Overall the hotel was modern and clean and up to Marriott standards. If you are looking for a great location and good value this is a great choice. There is also a great view of Table Mountain from the rooftop. If my husband and I returned to Cape Town we might try One&Only or Cape Grace for a more luxury stay but would not hesitate to stay at 15 on Orange again. Read less
