Cape Grace Hotel

Cape Town, South Africa

The hotel

Part of the Cape Town social scene, this iconic hotel attracts discerning locals and travellers to its vibrant Bascule Bar. Known for its whisky, wine, and cocktails (and tapas), sundowners in the bar are just one of Cape Grace’s dining and drinking experiences, with others including tasting the contemporary Cape cuisine of Signal Restaurant. It helps that Cape Grace has one of the best addresses in the city, on a private quay by the V&A Waterfront – and this harbour-side location means it can share stunning views of the marina or mountain from its suites. Locals may get to taste the delights of Bascule Bar, but those staying here also get to indulge in the nautical-themed outdoor pool, signature Kalahari massages in the spa, and a children’s program that includes thoughtful touches like little slippers and robes, and gingerbread decorating.

The Cape Grace Hotel fully deserves a five star rating - plus, plus. Situated inside the Cape Town Waterfront the rooms have wonderful views. Either of the yacht marina and Table Mountain - or alternatively on the other side a view of the working harbour. One cannot fully do justice to this hotel in a concise review. Either of the yacht marina and Table Mountain - or alternatively on the other side a view of the working harbour. One cannot fully do justice to this hotel in a concise review. It is too special, has such amazing views and ambiance, the restaurant is amazing, the Basqule Bar is fantastic. The Sunday brunch served from 11:30 in the Signal Restaurant is world class. The staff are wonderful and completely guest and service oriented. The residence is a short walk from the many amenities that the Waterfront has to offer. The walk is across a draw bridge which is fun to watch open and close. It is a top hotel and of course is pricey. Read less

We stayed for four days at the Cape Grace with our 3 year old and I can’t speak enough on the level of service! I’ve never stayed at hotel that was so accommodating for our small child and they completely outfitted our room especially for our son. They anticipated all of the things we might need like his own toddler bed, child-proofing, bath toys, potty, and stuffed animals. They also made special food arrangements for our son and made food especially for him. We also loved the location with quick access to the marina and quick drives to all the major Cape Town sites. I would highly recommend, especially if traveling with small kids. We also loved the pool. The pool staff was especially kind to us and provided outstanding service!! Read less

This may be the best hotel I've stayed in. As a base, it is a great location - so close to the hubbub of the V&A waterfront but somehow on its own quiet 'island'. A great touch to say 'welcome home' when you return and that staff become familiar with your name. I was (sadly) only there for 2 nights with 2 breakfasts, 1 tapas evening in the Bascule… Read more

A great touch to say 'welcome home' when you return and that staff become familiar with your name. I was (sadly) only there for 2 nights with 2 breakfasts, 1 tapas evening in the Bascule bar and 1 dinner at their Signal restaurant - all superb. Gorgeous rooms (mine had a marina and table mountain view), a small but nice pool, and beautifully decorated and furnished communal areas to relax in. Give yourself a treat if you can and stay here on a visit to Cape Town... Read less

We stayed here for 11 nights with a group of fellow travellers to take in the Test Match at Newlands. We have stayed at many top hotels around the world and the Cape Grace is right up there with the best. We have previously stayed at the One and Only which was excellent so we were hopeful this would live up to that - and it did! For service the Cape Grace definitely has the edge. They give truly personal service which feels sincere and genuine. We had a great room on the 4th floor overlooking the Silo with views to the Waterfront. The location is excellent, close enough to the V&A but just far enough to provide a little peace and quiet. The food is first class and the Bascule Bar is terrific for a drink on the deck with a Table Mountain backdrop. The staff were especially kind to me when I needed a doctor which was much appreciated. The only tiny disappointment was the lack of space around the pool but they’ve made the best of the limited space available. This is an elegant first class hotel which stands apart from the big chains by delivering outstanding personal service to its clients. Well done Cape Grace team! We shall return... Read less
