Kariega Game Reserve - Main Lodge

Eastern Cape, South Africa

Virgin rating

The hotel

Family owned and managed, it would be accurate to say that the gradual growth and development of the now expansive 10,000 hectare malaria-free 'Big Five' reserve is one of the most accomplished conservation projects in the Eastern Cape to date. Kariega’s landscape spans across five different eco-systems, offering an exceptional game viewing and birding experience. Having two major rivers incorporated into the reserve (the Kariega and Bushmans rivers) adds enormous beauty and value. With a choice of lodges; Ukhozi and River Lodge offer a more intimate atmosphere, and the Main lodge is ideal for families; so whatever the occasion, Kariega Game reserve has something to suit your needs and create lasting memories.

The most wonderful accommodation and luxurious experience. The staff were fantastic and the safari exceeded all expectations. The food and wine was 5*. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. As two families with young people we all have magical memories and would highly recommend Ukhozi lodge.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience at Kariega‘s Ukhozi Lodge. We stayed for 3 nights, what made us enjoy no less than 6 game drives - each one a unique adventure. The suite, the people - both all staff and game drive guide -, the food, drinks selection and the lodge itself were amazing and very authentic. Everyone was super kind, attentive and passionate about their work and service for all of their guests. Our personal hero was the guide for the time of our stay, Mr. Zolani Mofu - what a man! As Zolani put it: what we see is what we see. So going on a game drive, I’d recommend to be free of checklist sightings and must-sees. We‘re talking an authentic wilderness and wild animals that wouldn‘t stick to a perfect schedule. We were lucky to have amazing wildlife encounters on each or our drives, big and small. Your guide will make sure to try show you most of the game they have on the vast lands of the reserve and chances are high he or she will succeed. But keep it easy, stay humble and enjoy the ride! Our stay helped us cleanse our minds from everyday stress and come a little closer to mother nature. We were two most happy people with a colourful bouquet of lifetime memories leaving the place. From Berlin with all the Love, Elena & Julian. Thank you! Read less
