Kariega Game Reserve

Eastern Cape, South Africa

The hotel

Family owned and managed, it would be accurate to say that the gradual growth and development of the now expansive 10,000 hectare malaria-free 'Big Five' reserve is one of the most accomplished conservation projects in the Eastern Cape to date. Kariega’s landscape spans across five different eco-systems, offering an exceptional game viewing and birding experience. Having two major rivers incorporated into the reserve (the Kariega and Bushmans rivers) adds enormous beauty and value.

Great game drives, superior modern villas, gorgeous views from the infinity pool, friendly staff, exceptional guides. What an absolutely top notch safari resort. The villas with their own plunge pools are so far above safari glamping! It’s not even a long transfer from Port Elizabeth. Just Go! You’ll love it and you’ll remember the experience… Read more

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights during our honeymoon. A safari had always been a bucket list item for me and Kariega did not disappoint at all. The Ukhozi lodge is out of this world and the staff were so attentive we felt spoilt rotten. The only tiny negative thing I'd say is that for breakfast and the evening meal the tables were arranged so that you eat with whoever is in your game drive group - my husband and I would've liked to have sat by ourselves, especially as it was our honeymoon. You do 2 x 3 hour game drives a day so it would've been nice to have had breakfast and the evening meal on our own - to be fair, we never asked the delightfully charming lodge manager Rosie if this was an option so it might well be fine to do. Having said this though, it didn't spoil our experience. We had two game drivers during our stay, Allen and Rachel, and they were absolutely brilliant, so knowledgeable and friendly - they made our stay that much more special. It was beautiful to see the animals in their natural habitat and we would recommend you stay here! It was an amazing way to end our honeymoon. Read less
