Altes Landhaus

Oudtshoorn, Garden Route

The hotel

Beyond its Dutch gables, this century old homestead, which once masqueraded as a church rectory, has had its Victorian grandeur reinstated – with the odd touch of rustic chic added in for good measure. Sitting in the scenic Schoemanshoek Valley, just a drive from the attractions of Oudtshoorn, Little Karoo, and the Garden Route, Altes Landhaus’s grounds have a lot to live up to. And, featuring sweeping lawns, flower-stuffed borders, and a solar heated pool they do; all while providing the backdrop to many of the lodge’s beautiful guest suites and its restaurant, where you can dine on 5-star feasts beneath the patio’s bamboo canopy.

We only stayed here one night but what a fabulous relaxing place. The staff are so welcoming and couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. I would highly recommend a stop here while travelling through the Garden Route. We visited the Cango Caves the following day and for the Adventure Tour and that was great fun so I would recommend that too! We really enjoyed our time here so many thanks for our stay! Read less

I'm sorry we only had one night here, the welcome, service and surroundings were beautiful. The staff took time to talk to you and offer advice and suggestions. They wouldn't let you lift a finger, loading, unloading the car etc. Our room was huge and everything was clean. There was an inviting pool but we didn't get the chance to use it. The… Read more

We decided to take evening meals in the lodge and the attention to detail by the staff (one in particular shown the picture was a gem), the food, the quality was beyond comparison. The staff told us what to go and see, shared discounts where available and always asked us how our day had gone. The Lodge itself is lovely, never busy, appreciated the honesty bar set in beautiful grounds above Weevers feeding their young in nests. This is one special place! Thanks to the owner too for your hospitality and chats - everyone made our stay memorable and special. All the very best, until next time 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇿🇦 Read less

I have never left a review before but felt I had to after staying here for 2 nights. Amazing place, so friendly and welcoming. Best breakfast we ate while on holiday in SA. Our car was washed while we were here. Very hepful in planning our days with trips. Honesty bar and pool made us feel like a home away from home.

Stayed for two nights country lodge states five star, but in actual fact I would rate it as a three star! Disappointing, dull brown 60’s inspired rooms that were horrible. Breakfast was good and staff were helpful and attentive. Would not recommend as very disappointing in comparison to previous five star accommodation experience in South Africa.
