Altes Landhaus

Oudtshoorn, Garden Route

The hotel

Beyond its Dutch gables, this century old homestead, which once masqueraded as a church rectory, has had its Victorian grandeur reinstated – with the odd touch of rustic chic added in for good measure. Sitting in the scenic Schoemanshoek Valley, just a drive from the attractions of Oudtshoorn, Little Karoo, and the Garden Route, Altes Landhaus’s grounds have a lot to live up to. And, featuring sweeping lawns, flower-stuffed borders, and a solar heated pool they do; all while providing the backdrop to many of the lodge’s beautiful guest suites and its restaurant, where you can dine on 5-star feasts beneath the patio’s bamboo canopy.

Although we only spent two nights here, I thoroughly recommend this lodge to anyone visiting Oudtshoorn. The staff were very attentive and we loved the quiet atmosphere. The rooms were also very clean and comfortable! Thanks so much :)

Wonderful accommodation intended to feel like you are visiting the lodge of an old friend rather than staying in a hotel. We were only there for 1 night but it would be a good place to base yourself for a few nights. Dean and his staff are very friendly and he sorted out our booking to visit the caves as we were having problems with our phones. Dean also gave us advice on places to visit and where to eat on the next stage of our holiday in Plettenberg. Good food and great service. Read less

Set in the most stunning location we arrived mid afternoon to be told we had been upgraded to one of their top rooms, what a great start!! The room was out of this world and a short walk to both the pool, dining room and lounge. The food is well worth staying in for and the wine list covered most pallets. The pool area was clean and well kept and we spent one afternoon just sipping beer, reading and swimming. Almost next door is a Winery and well worth a visit. We also went to the cave system about 15km away, well worth the trip out as was the Ostrich farm close by. If we were ever back in that area we would defiantly book again!! Read less
