Rosenhof Country House

Oudtshoorn, Garden Route

The hotel

Named for the delicate roses that scent its beautiful gardens, Rosenhof Country House mixes pure luxury with a real feel of old South Africa. Starting its life as a Cape-Dutch homestead back in 1862, a sympathetic makeover has since turned it into one of Route 62’s most idyllic boutique hotels. And its privileged spot outside Oudtshoorn on the Garden Route puts you close to popular pit stops like Cango Caves and Meerkat Adventure – and gives you incredible mountain views. It’s kept its intimate homely feel – featuring just 14 rooms and suites, as well as elegant lounges, where you can snuggle up around fireplaces (although, unlike most homes, you can also take a dip in its outdoor swimming pool, indulge in treatments at its wellness centre, and tuck into delectable dishes in its dining room).

Arriving at this smashing hotel was a bit of surprise to me. I wasn't expecting a top notch place. The surroundings were great and the rooms were more than nice - pure elegance. The staff was also very friendly and available for all sort of matters e.g. they help me to make my wife's birthday one of kind with choir singing and a beautiful cake.

We were only spending two nights here as part of our journey from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay. Rosenhof was lovely and we were fortunate enough to have one of their executive suites with it's own pool and lounge. We were only spending two nights here as part of our journey from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay. Rosenhof was lovely and we were fortunate enough to have one of their executive suites with it's own pool and lounge. Whilst we didn't eat in the restaurant, the service was excellent and the breakfast fabulous and a great base to see an Ostrich farm, drive the Swartberg pass, visit Prince Albert and see some Meerkats early one morning (which the staff very kindly booked for us). We're unsure what there is to actually see in Oudtshoorn, but this is a lovely country house in which to stay, relax and just chill! Fabulous grounds, wonderful staff. Thank you! Read less

We were only here briefly on our garden route trip. Lovely hotel. Rooms set around a courtyard. Very friendly staff. Food was excellent both at dinner and breakfast. Sadly wasn't there long enough to Make full use of all the hotel's facilities. Great location to visit all the local sites.

Everything depends on your expectations and what you are used to. Nice hotel but it doesn’t have that special Relais & Chateaux “je ne sais quoi” which you’d want a country hotel to have. Food wasn’t bad.
