Lairds Lodge

Plettenberg Bay, Garden Route

The hotel

An artfully designed escape that’s earned its place on the Garden Route map, Lairds Lodge Country Estate isn’t just well-located – it’s lavish, leisurely, and inspired by the local scene. On a 24 acre estate between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, this Cape Dutch-style homestead’s authentic in its very fabric. Purists won’t be disappointed when they dine either, with local Cape wines often pairing a repertoire of regional game and seafood. Adding a homely feel, you can dine at the sociable communal tables in the dining room, or in the intimacy of the atmospheric brick-walled wine cellar. Its boutique-style guestrooms and lounges give a contemporary twist on classic styling, with overstuffed cushions, shade-less bulbs, and a palette of putty, grey, and hessian; but you won’t spend much time indoors, with the daybeds around the pool, beautiful gardens, and neighbouring Knysna Elephant Park beckoning.

Big bathroom, nice sitting area and a beautiful bedroom. We opted to eat in Lairds Lodge on our first night. You preorder from the menu ( if you don’t like the main course you can ask for something different- it was never a problem). Everyone goes to the bar for a pre-dinner drink, which is lovely. All the other guests were very nice and it is interesting to hear their travel tales. Dinner was wonderful, so much so we opted to dine in the following two nights also. All the staff are wonderful and friendly and seem to work together very well. Breakfasts were to a very high standard, plenty of choices. Staff very helpful with suggesting activities on the day. Lairds Lodge is just across the road from Knysna Elephant Park which is definitely worth a visit. It was great to relax by the pool and gardens too. We really felt pampered and well looked after in Lairds Lodge. Would highly recommend. Read less

Lairds Lodge has 2 unique selling points- the staff and the food! Beni, Eddie and Zan are so professional and caring. Lairds is lucky to have them. We stayed for 5 nights and ate in the Lodge 4 of those nights. The food is outstanding. They have drinks in the bar at 7pm followed by dinner at 7:30pm. If you want you can dine on the Communal Table.… Read more

We spent three nights here and it was a great contrast to the noise of Durban. Nice setting was very quiet. Staff were very friendly and the food at both breakfast and dinner was excellent. Easy to spend time here, but the staff can help find nature-y things to do.

This is a lovely hotel outside Plettenberg just off the N 2. Beautiful main hotel area and pool area. Food was excellent although portion sizes very small, no menu choice and strict timings. Our room was very nice and big with a patio looking out onto the second pool- however the TV was placed almost on the ceiling so we couldn’t see it properly because of the huge light shade...... WiFi didn’t work in the room despite asking for this to be sorted three days in a row. Power cuts were frequent which wasn’t really an issue but more information and a torch in the room would have been helpful. Read less
