Lairds Lodge

Plettenberg Bay, Garden Route

The hotel

An artfully designed escape that’s earned its place on the Garden Route map, Lairds Lodge Country Estate isn’t just well-located – it’s lavish, leisurely, and inspired by the local scene. On a 24 acre estate between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, this Cape Dutch-style homestead’s authentic in its very fabric. Purists won’t be disappointed when they dine either, with local Cape wines often pairing a repertoire of regional game and seafood. Adding a homely feel, you can dine at the sociable communal tables in the dining room, or in the intimacy of the atmospheric brick-walled wine cellar. Its boutique-style guestrooms and lounges give a contemporary twist on classic styling, with overstuffed cushions, shade-less bulbs, and a palette of putty, grey, and hessian; but you won’t spend much time indoors, with the daybeds around the pool, beautiful gardens, and neighbouring Knysna Elephant Park beckoning.

The accommodation was beautiful - not only the rooms but the other areas too, both inside and outside. The location is also excellent - close to the Robberg Peninsula, the Knysna elephant park and Plettenberg Bay. Read less

Very nice, off the beaten path but very near everything in Plettenberg Baai. Excellent staff and food. Stunning grounds and rooms, very much up to date and clean. The bar is exceptional for their gin and warm feeling.

We stayed here for one night in May 2019 as part of a Garden Route journey from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. It is a lovely place to stay and all in our party (4#) wished we had planned to stay longer there. We will be sure to visit again when we are next in the area. Great staff, great location and delicious food!

Upon arrival we were met by 3 of the staff who introduced themselves, took our cases from the car and carried them to our accommodation. The accommodation was beautifully furnished and spacious with a sitting area, bathroom and bedroom. Dinner was served at 7.30pm each evening with drinks at 7pm which was an excellent way of meeting other guests. The food was delicious, we ate their each evening of our stay, not through necessity but through choice. The breakfasts were also delicious with plenty of choice; with a chef's special each morning. Each morning some of the staff would go around each table asking if they could assist them with maps or places to visit, their local knowledge was invaluable. The pool area was really tranquil with plenty of places to sit in the sun and in the shade. There were also areas to sit around the main building itself; these were also furnished to a very high standard. Our only regret is we didn't book for longer than 4 nights; it would have been great to stay for a few days longer just enjoying the peace and tranquility. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone; there was a mixture of couples and families staying. One morning at breakfast time all the staff came to one family and presented one of the children with a Birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday. That is one example of the personal touch all staff adopted throughout our stay. We will definitely book again when we go back to the Plettenberg area, it was incredible. Read less
