The hotel

Sandton is South Africa’s business and shopping epicentre, so if you’re in town for either one – then this hotel provides a fabulous base for it, and for plenty more too! With a complimentary shuttle to the convention centre, shopping century, and the train station, it couldn’t be easier to get around to business meetings, leisurely lunches, or to catch your flight onwards to enjoy other areas of the country. Located in the heart of Sandton, north of Johannesburg. Less than 1km to Sandton Convention Centre, a 5 minute walk from Sandton Gautrain station, and less than 10 minutes walk to Nelson Mandela Square.

301 rooms across 9 floors, all with air-conditioning, complimentary WiFi access, mini fridge, coffee/tea making facilities, mini bar, flat-screen TV, safe, iron and ironing board, and hairdryer.

Standard Rooms have either 1 king-size bed, 1 queen-size bed, or twin beds, sleeping maximum 2 people. 

Premium Rooms are larger in size, with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 people. Some Premium rooms offer additional sofa bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children. 

Suites feature a separate living area, bathroom with separate bath tub and shower, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 children.  

Complimentary scheduled shuttles to areas of interest around the hotel, including the Sandton Convention Centre, Sandton City shopping centre and Sandton Gautrain station. Self-parking 50 ZAR per night (payable locally, fee subject to change).

I attended an AGM at Sandton Sun today and feel it really deserves a great review. From the friendly, attentive security staff, to conference staff to the restaurant staff - only good things could be said. The Conference venue itself could not be faulted, sound system was great, temperature perfect. There was a wide selection of morning eats which looked and tasted delicious. Luncheon was marvellous - I had a seafood starter with shrimp, big prawn and avocado and a really delicious sauce. Main course was the grilled salmon which was the best prepared salmon I have ever had. There was also a lovely vibe in the hotel and conference area - wherever one went. Upon arrival Mr Amos, the gentleman at the gate was so friendly to us and we felt our presence was acknowledged which was great. Thank you bra Amos. The reception ladies were all smiles and what stood out was how they managed attending to each guest one by one without it being messy or having the awaiting guests waiting to check in feeling irritable. I am mentioning this because I came with a group of my colleagues and we were all attended to quite well. I loved the room but it could do with more flatter pillows, but none the less I couldn't fault it, I was happy to see an iron and iron board came with the room set up. My favourite part was the Dinning area. Great staff indeed. A gentleman by the name of Mpumi in particular was always making sure we were comfortable at all costs and very friendly to everyone who signals for his assistance at the restaurant from my observation. Above all. It was a pleasant stay and looking forward to visiting again. PS: Thank you to all staff for wearing name tags ;) Read less

One of the worst "high end" hotels I ever stayed in. Shelving in cupboard falling down, breakfast not ready on time, rooms needs refreshing, staff - especially restaurant - needs serious customer focus training. Coffee and tea not replenished daily. Overall not a good place to stay.

The bad: -There seems to be no porter service as nobody brought our luggage upstairs and we had to go fetch them ourselves, carry them all the way upstairs through the elevator. The answer was we had to identify our luggage first. But after identification by ourselves, nobody assisted us. The staffs did see us dragging with difficult the luggage but with nobody to help or to advise on this -However, we were supposed to get the lunch with the group. It took a very long time to setup the table and get the food. -the majority of the staffs are not focused/smiling. The rest of the restaurant staffs were not that communicative or very proactively helpful. The good: -The hotel is ideally situated in joburg, especially if you want to be near the area of Sandton mall. -The hotel seems fairly upgraded, especially the reception. -The restaurant as well seems quite upscale. -some staffs are courteous There is one older lady in the morning in the kitchen service who was very courteous and helpful. Sonia is very helpful indeed The next morning the staffs were different and slightly more courteous and there was more porters. The room was relatively well kept and clean although it might need some further touch up on maintenance if you are picky The room is an average size with lots of lights, desk and tv The bed was ok but the pillow need further improvement Overall An ok hotel to stay if you are prepared to look beyond the service quality but location/proximity is your priority Read less
