We stayed 2 nights at the Marriott Melrose Arch and it proved just right! We arranged pick up fro JNB airport with the hotel, a highly recommended option to avoid unknown transportation. The hotel is big, modern, conveniently located in Melrose Arch precinct, which is a secure area, with interrnational public, many restaurants and shopping (very different from Joburg downtown... but rather similar to Rosebank). The hop on/off bus stops right at the corner of the hotel. Our king room was nice, modern layout (dark paint colors, not much storage space), good for the length of our stay. Buffet breakfast was included, with many options and served by awfully kind assistants. The Front Desk team and Concierge were efficient and also very nice. We did not have enough time to enjoy the tidy outdoor pool, or the restaurant/bar onsite, but I'm sure they must be real good, given the lots of people attending at all times! If ever in Joburg again, the Marriott will be our choice! Read less

The hotel is new and the rooms well spaced and decorated. The hotel is in great working order. Do not forget the free drinks in the lounge if you are a Marriot Gold member. Will stay here again. Only downside was check in and check out were harder than they needed to be due to some staff that was not properly trained.

We arrived a few hours before check-in and since the room wasn’t quite ready, we hung out in their lobby level club lounge which was on the smaller size for a Marriott, but didn’t feel crowded. Since we had arrived via international flight and needed to get over jet lag, we enjoyed their breakfast buffet in the main dining area, breakfast in the club lounge, as well as room service lunch and dinner throughout our stay. Staff were attentive across all venues, and food was good and what you’d expect from a Marriott restaurant. Room was clean and comfortable, and housekeeping replenished things as needed. Across the driveway is a walkable shopping area where you can find other dining options, as well as a spa to get a relaxing massage. Overall very happy with our choice to stay here! Read less

Decent hotel, nicely appointed rooms, however the staff are poorly trained in hospitality. There are loads of them, but are they just pulled off the streets and given a Marriott shirt or badge? Housekeeping at art their shift early and wake up the whole corridor, crashing, banging & shouting to each other. Also, the power keeps cutting out, but when it starts up again, the bright light on the bedside clock illuminates in the middle of the night, two or three times. There is a good gym, however it’s 79 degrees in there. The doors are constantly wedged open by the staff (apparently on management instructions) so the air con inside the gym doesn’t work. When I asked the staff to keep the doors closed, I was given an eye roll and attitude. I would like to see the staff and management work out in 79 degree heat. If the doors must stay open, please provide some portable air con units. Read less

First time staying at this hotel that was chosen due to the security of being in Melrose Arch. I am a Titanium Elite member and this hotel went above my expectations to recognize my status. My experience started with a chat prior to arrival to request an upgraded room, that was granted, and arranged transportation to/from the airport that we were able to charge to our room. Upon arrival the check in process was friendly and the room manager also greeted us and thanked us for our loyalty. We arrived late and had not eaten and they arranged to make sure the restaurant would stay open as we were about to close the kitchen. The entire pre and check in experience was great. The hotel is located in a gated community that has many shops and restaurants. We always felt safe and enjoyed the availability of everything. We were upgraded to the King junior suite that should not be called Junior. It had a small kitchen, dining room, living rom and bedroom with two baths. A gift of food and welcome card was waiting for us. The M Club continued to exceed our expectations for breakfast and snacks / drinks. I would not hesitate to stay again here and as a member with over 1000 room nights with Marriott this would easily be my top 5 hotels. Read less
