Kapama Private Game Reserve

The hotel

Among the 'Big Five' that roam this private 16,000 hectare reserve, you'll find a collection of unique safari retreats. You could stay in a glass-wrapped pool villa at Karula; in a luxury treetop tent at intimate Buffalo Camp; or in the welcoming suites and pool villas of Southern Camp, where picture windows and private patios ensure you're never far from unfolding safari scenes. The camps' boma dining, swimming pools and Karula’s Spa and Wellness centre make Kapama the perfect African safari destination. But it's the 'Big Five' experiences that make Kapama Private Game Reserve unforgettable, with twice daily game-drives, bush walks and lantern-lit romantic sleepouts on a raised platform.

An incredible few days spent in the bush with my fiance! The service was amazing and all the staff members were so kind and friendly. An incredible few days spent in the bush with my fiance! The service was amazing and all the staff members were so kind and friendly. The lodge is beautiful and the images and videos don't do it justice. The spa was outstanding and it was so great to be able to relax between treatments at the fabulous pool overlooking the waterhole. The food was five star all the way and we had some unbelievably tasty meals. The spa suite room was very luxurious with all the modern amenities included. The game drives were action packed and so many laughs were shared with the incredible guide and tracker team Michael and Colin. My only issue was that viewings are a little rushed but this is to allow other vehicles a turn and not have to many cars around the animals disturbing them. The lodge is big and does have more of a hotel feel and is ideal for families and larger groups also with a choice of two swimming pools to use. Overall we loved every minute of the stay and would highly recommend this lodge to anyone wanting a fantastic bush experience. Read less

So fortunate to have had a chance to experience this oasis in the middle of the wild. Comforts and service are top notch. Game encounters like nothing I’ve experienced before. Every detail is given great attention and it made for a fantastic holiday. Keep it up Kapama.

This was my first out-of-town trip in over six months, and we decided to go due to Kapama's current rates, which are very heavily discounted for locals, due to the restriction on international tourists from entering the country. The service was world-class, it it almost exclusively caters for international travellers who pay R15 000+ per person, per night. The food was incredible, with the menu changing every day, and chef Deon was very accommodating of our many dietary requirements. Our guides Moshe and Henry were very knowledgable, and we saw the Great Five and much more during our twice-a-day game drives. The library is decked out in contemporary African decor, and you can sign-up to use the gym at Karula. I thought it would be years until I could afford to do a luxury safari experience like this, and feel fortunate to have been able to go at such a heavily discounted rate. It was worth every penny! The establishment itself is beautifully designed and of the highest quality decor within the rooms as well the various public areas. The rangers (John and Dumi) was knowledgeable and informative on all aspects and went the extra mile to find some of the not so common animals ensuring that we will have something to remember our time spend at Kapama.
