Ivory Tree Lodge

Sun City, South Africa

The hotel

This lodge is unique for so many reasons that you’ll begin to forget which one you like the best. For starters, it’s located within one of the world’s largest extinct volcanic complexes and is surrounded by numerous African native animals including: springbok, cheetah, rhino, elephant and lion. The Ivory Tree Lodge has also been upgraded to fully represent contemporary luxury without detracting from the natural environment. A large swimming pool and guest areas are designed to provide relaxation and relief for groups and individuals. Meal times can be enjoyed inside or outside and you’ll be amazed at the fine dining options. Two lounge areas and two bars, one of which serves cocktails, provide the perfect evening location from where to reflect on your day’s adventures in the bush. If you’re looking for further activities, other than a ‘Big Five’ safari, then why not try getting involved with something cultural including interactive drumming sessions.

My wife and I spent three fantastic nights at the Lodge which included six game drives. Our game drives were unbelievable, thanks to our driver Sean. On the first drive we saw four of the big five plus lots of other animals. We had been on three drives without seeing any lions and Sean was determined to find some. And he did. He found a pride which crossed the road in right in front of us. Overall we saw over 20 species of animals, many of them, very close. Our accommodation was great, with a huge comfortable bed. Meals were good with a mixture of buffet and a-la-carte and the service was exceptional. We had a problem with our transfer to our next venue (they didn't turn) and the reception staff went out of their way to remedy the problem and look after us while we were waiting. We could not speak highly enough of The Ivory Tree Game Lodge and will certainly be recommending it to our friends. Read less

The twice daily 3 hr long safaris with an all food inclusive menus. Breakfast drinks included. All other times buy your own drinks, which is not bad at all (see below) We got there on the check in day for lunch: make sure you arrive in the am for pm lunch and safari. Stayed for two full days and the morning safari and breakfast on the forth day. The total with gratuities Ran$ 300 for staff and Ran$ 150 for maid service, a US$100 for game ranger for all 6 safaris ( you will have the same ranger every day), drinks, 39 minute massage and an hour long ATV local village tour came to $303 for both of us on top of the reservation price. I’ll call it reasonable. Check the photos and hit me for details and suggestion for transport. Read less

All the staff are friendly and make sure you make your stay a memorable one. Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner is outstanding with different options every day. One night, we had a Boma outdoor Buffet of local foods. Prior to the game drives, twice daily, you can enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits before setting off on a 3 hour safari. Our guide, Temba, ensured we got to see all of the big five, going the extra mile for us to see a pride of 8 lions!! Cannot rate this place highly enough. It was magnificent. Read less
