Ivory Tree Lodge

Sun City, South Africa

The hotel

This lodge is unique for so many reasons that you’ll begin to forget which one you like the best. For starters, it’s located within one of the world’s largest extinct volcanic complexes and is surrounded by numerous African native animals including: springbok, cheetah, rhino, elephant and lion. The Ivory Tree Lodge has also been upgraded to fully represent contemporary luxury without detracting from the natural environment. A large swimming pool and guest areas are designed to provide relaxation and relief for groups and individuals. Meal times can be enjoyed inside or outside and you’ll be amazed at the fine dining options. Two lounge areas and two bars, one of which serves cocktails, provide the perfect evening location from where to reflect on your day’s adventures in the bush. If you’re looking for further activities, other than a ‘Big Five’ safari, then why not try getting involved with something cultural including interactive drumming sessions.

A group of us stayed at Ivory Tree and really had a great time, the staff are friendly and attentive, Precious at the pool bar was AMAZING, it only took the 1st night and she knew what we all drank and just confirmed if that’s what we would like and knew that we were smokers and always made sure that we had an ashtray. The rooms need a bit of attention, I didn’t feel they were 5 star, there is no mini bar, we had to move the espresso machine to make coffee every morning as wire didn’t reach the plug point and the mosquito nets don’t reach the wall, also the general maintenance is just sloppy, paint spatters, lose wiring and a gaping hole in the bathroom vanity. The food really was not bad at all for a buffet, a decent variety, even if some of the desserts were clearly reserved from left over Christmas lunch. Our ranger Ross was INCREDIBLE, he made sure that we weren’t just chasing the big 5, but rather seeing things great and small. He really went the extra mile for us and I’m a little disappointed that Ivory Tree is fully booked for my Feb trip to Pilanesberg as I won’t have him as a ranger. He included everyone and made sure that even on slow game days that we never felt like the drive was wasted! 5 stars for Ross! Would definitely stay there again! Read less

Property is advertised as a 5-star lodge and that really isn't the case. The rooms are tired and had a few too many layers of paint on them and could really do with a general overhaul. The food in the restaurant was fine but standard buffet-style meals and in other safari lodges, I've had much better. Having said all that: it was worth what I… Read more

Excellent lodge within the national park with great service, wonderful staff and keen safari drivers. While some dishes were a little over cooked, overall the food and service were excellent and everyone was eager to make your stay a memorable experience. Rooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable.

This trip was not as successful as before. We had bad luck with the ranger. The accommodation and the place still nice and comfortable. The food is excellent. The wine selection is very good in the safari but not as good in the restaurant. All in all we enjoyed.
