Ivory Tree Lodge

Sun City, South Africa

The hotel

This lodge is unique for so many reasons that you’ll begin to forget which one you like the best. For starters, it’s located within one of the world’s largest extinct volcanic complexes and is surrounded by numerous African native animals including: springbok, cheetah, rhino, elephant and lion. The Ivory Tree Lodge has also been upgraded to fully represent contemporary luxury without detracting from the natural environment. A large swimming pool and guest areas are designed to provide relaxation and relief for groups and individuals. Meal times can be enjoyed inside or outside and you’ll be amazed at the fine dining options. Two lounge areas and two bars, one of which serves cocktails, provide the perfect evening location from where to reflect on your day’s adventures in the bush. If you’re looking for further activities, other than a ‘Big Five’ safari, then why not try getting involved with something cultural including interactive drumming sessions.

The Ivory Tree Game Lodge was indeed a Great Game viewing Experience. During our weekend tour we were fortunate enough to have seen most of the animal species in the reserve. Our Game Ranger was the highlight of the tour, showing great expertise and very friendly and respectful to our tour group.

We have just returned from an incredible stay at the Ivory Tree Lodge. Our group of 14 people got together for a family reunion and it was everything we could have wished for and more. The online booking process through Lee-Anne Booysen was very efficient and all our requests were promptly attended to via email. On arrival at the lodge, we were greeted by the friendly porters on their "golf carts" and taken to reception, where we were met by Priscilla and the very competent team of receptionists. We were delighted to be informed that we would have the exclusive use of the Pilane Villa for our stay....what a wonderful surprise! We arrived in time for a delicious buffet lunch. Tessa welcomed us warmly to the dining area and showed us to our table which was already set up for our group, including high chairs for the kiddies. We thoroughly enjoyed meal times gathered around our big table...the food was great and the waiters were excellent. We had no sooner arrived at our chalets when the kids jumped into the private pool at the Villa....such a treat! Reinhardt, the GM, was very attentive throughout our stay, and personally came to explain the game drive arrangements to us. The game drives were a real hit. Our ranger, Desmond, was extremely knowledeable and very entertaining. We saw 4 of the Big 5 and found that the 3 hour drives passed by so quickly. Desmond is a real asset to the Ivory Tree team. The chalets are spacious, well-maintained and luxurious and blend in beautifully with the surroundings. All in all, we could not fault any aspect of our stay. The service was excellent, the food was great, the accommodation exceeded our expectations and the game drives were fantastic. Thanks very much to the Ivory Tree team for enabling us to create wonderful memories of a much anticipated family reunion. Read less

Nothing irritates me more than someone that comes up with excuses for EVERYTHING. What I find shameful though is that Post Covid when people are spending money for 5 star accommodation then that is what they expect to receive for their hard earned buck. When the restaurant prepares mediocre food by chefs who clearly can't boil an egg, served by waitrons who are disinterested and dejected looking, in a restaurant with cobwebs on the pillars and dirty public bathrooms then we have a problem. Excuses are made for smokers who are allowed to smoke EVERYWHERE and then get told that he does not rock the boat because they need to keep people happy. Chopped liver non-smokers. Never present at dinner times to see to guests and their needs. It's a disservice to his staff as he should be going out of his way to ensure everything is perfect for guests so that they return and save his staff's jobs. BTW Shepherds Tree is head and shoulders above you and the GM rocks. Read less
