We were referred to Shepard’s Tree from friends that had a positive experience during their stay, and we were not disappointed. Choosing a safari experience can be overwhelming and we found that from our booking through check-out, Shepard’s Tree and staff worked hard to make our stay comfortable and rewarding. Traveling with our 20 something daughter, we were given a 2 bedroom suite, complete with small private pool. Rooms were well appointed, with luxury bedding and high end bath amenities provided. Daily housekeeping and turn down service included. The outdoor shower a dream. A lovely welcome basket awaited us. The opportunities to go out into the bush were well scheduled, with wonderful meals served upon our return. We were fortunate to have Tristen as our guide for the 3 days we were there. His knowledge and respect of the animals we came upon made our visit unforgettable. While we saw 4 out of Big 5 during our stay (can’t begin to explain how amazing that was), it was also learning and hearing about the smaller animals of the bush that made our experience all the better. It was also a pleasure meeting others from around the world as we shared a truck with them each day. We rented a car from Johannesburg airport and made an easy and safe drive to and from to the lodge. Given the various options when looking to book a safari experience, I can’t imagine getting more for your money than what is provided at Shepard’s Tree. Highly recommend. Read less

Just ok. Absolutely zero WiFi or cellphone signal which was very annoying. Dinner in the boma wasn’t great. Lots of insects crawling all over the tables after a big rain. Unpleasant enough to make us rush dinner so we could go inside. General food quality was ok. Not awesome. Staff very friendly though, the bar has been redone and looks… Read more

Unpleasant enough to make us rush dinner so we could go inside. General food quality was ok. Not awesome. Staff very friendly though, the bar has been redone and looks great. Bed comfortable, room was very very clean No plug next to the bed though. I do feel that for the price per person paid, soft drinks should be included. Feeling a bit ripped off? Read less
