The service at this lodge is better than any 5 star hotel or resort. The rooms are gorgeous and the outdoor showers are a thrill at night. Our guide's name was Answer and he was excellent at using a given situation as a teaching moment. I cannot say enough positive things about this lodge or their staff. My only suggestion would be to give… Read more

Shepherd's Tree was an amazing surprise during our visit. Facility structure was perfect, the room facing to Pilanesberg National Park is undescribable (we were gifted with an elephant herd in front of our window) and all staff is amazing, specially "Rori" and NJabulo, our ranger during our stay. For sure, I highly recommend this hotel.

THE BEST! Such a memorable stay and one of the best places we've ever stayed at. This was our first time staying in a game lodge, in fact first time in South Africa and we certainly made the right decision. The rooms all seem to have an amazing view that opens up onto the game park as it sits a little bit up on a hill and even though you have rooms beside you, you never really feel that, you always feel alone, peaceful and safe. The room itself was pure luxury (gotta love that outdoor shower) with everything you need and such a comfortable and huge bed - the turn downs each night with a small treat on the pillow were such a nice touch. All staff from beginning to end were so welcoming and kind and really added to the experience; and boy, do they feed you! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, snacks... all included and the portions are not stingy and the quality is top-notch, so kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. Last, but certainly not least, the game rangers really made for a wonderful experience - our ranger (Jodie) had so much knowledge and was very kind and easy to talk to and ask questions. We managed to see some amazing scenes and she always had our safety in mind first... unfortunately we didn't see the lions... but a good excuse to come back :) Read less

I'm not sure i'll find the words to get across how wonderful this place is, but i'll have a go... I've been lucky to have stayed in a lot of lovely hotels all over the world in my time through both work and through my passion for travel and I honestly don't think i've enjoyed one more than this hotel. We stayed for 4 nights at the start of our 3 week holiday and we only wish we'd booked it again for the end of our holiday because it was by far the highlight of our entire trip. So i'd say if you want to end your holiday on a high (rather than start on the high) book it for the end. Things that made this place special: the warm welcoming staff who are also impressively organised and helped everything to flow so well. All the little touches like being welcomed back from game drives with hot towels, being driven around in golf buggies, getting back to your room at night and finding delicious nougat on your pillow alongside a bedtime story to read about the animals, the spacious bathroom and comfy bed, the delicious snacks at the bar, the bar that overlooked the water where we saw elephants shlurp from and bathe, the quality of the meals, the delicious wine (try the pinotage!). The game drives were ace! The guides were great. We went to check out early to catch a flight and the staff were concerned that we didn't have any breakfast because it was before breakfast started, so they went out of their way to quickly prepare a couple of bags of breakfast for us to take away. Well done Shepherd's Tree - you've created a magical place. I can't remember feeling happier than when out on your game drives. I would fly 11 hours again just to return to Shepherd's Tree alone! I did of course love the rest of South Africa, but me and my partner both agreed that your place really was the highlight. Thank you Read less
