The hotel is very nice, greatly situated with an amazing view over the valley. The restaurant was great, stuff is very kind and friendly. However we didn’t get the usual honeymoon treatment (bottle of champagne, upgrades or anything similar) which we have received at other similar hotels in South Africa. Breakfast was very good, best eggs… Read more

We had the most amazing dinner celebrating my birthday and or honeymoon. The most wondering waitress (long hair but didn’t catch her name) was amazing. Outstanding. Would recommend to anyone in the area. Food was incredible and service was excellent. Thank you so much for and wonderful evening

Lovely hotel, with rooms in terraced thatched chalets - we stayed in room 1 (the Stables) which is detached with its own little garden and sunny roof terrace. Fantastic staff, albeit that it seemed very quiet when we were there so we probably got quite a lot of individual attention (suited us!) Some minor niggles - bathroom was very dated and in need of a refurb and sound on TV kept cutting out, but these were minor. Also, silly things like a broken umbrella base on the top terrace had been replaced but the broken one not removed, attention to detail like this would just elevate the overall feel. Nice features such as a complimentary chauffeur service within a 10 km radius is useful if you don’t have transport. The restaurant is funkily decorated and I know they have recently changed the menu format to ‘nose to tail’ - not quite sure the have got this right just yet. Food was indeed interesting but very large portion sizes meant it felt more like a hearty gastro pub than fine dining. It may have been because we were there mid week, but one night we were the only guests so the atmosphere was a bit lacking. Would recommend this hotel and Paarl - instead of going to its more fashionable neighbours (Stellenbosch and Frannschoek), give it a try - it’s and easy walk into town from the hotel and the architecture, history and heritage is amazing. Nice hotel, great setting, however, attention to detail is not there. Bedding is left outside rooms overnight and until late in the day. The bar is not stocked with staples. Simple logistics that you would expect a five star hotel take in its stride is beyond them. The hotel is for sale and my suggestion is wait until you know how the new owners… Read more
