Spier Hotel is a beautiful family-friendly hotel situated in Stellenbosch, next to the calming Eerste River, with a range of activities all within the hotel's grounds. The hotel part of Spier is set up like a village, with large rooms set in 2-storey buildings grouped around private courtyards each with their own pools and spacious gardens. The larger Spier resort is a 300-year-old wine farm which still features on-site wine tasting, plus a choice of restaurants including the farm-to-table Restaurant 'Eight', providing locally grown organic produce cooked to perfection. There's a picnic area with children's playground if a spot of outdoor dining takes your fancy and to keep everyone entertained the Spier is also home to Eagle Encounters, a bird of prey rehabilitation, education, conservation and eco-tourism centre. The level of service provided was impeccable. Very friendly staff. Breakfast was delicious. Room service was outstanding. Loved the Segway tour where we learn't so much about the farm and their efforts towards environmental sustainability.

My husband and I celebrated our 13 year wedding anniversary at Spier Wine farm and it was nothing short of spectacular. From pristine gardens, to squirrel watching and morning walks along the river side, we were left wanting more. My most favourites site was the village style hotel rooms- reminded me of a quaint village in Italy. Simply spectacular. Another wonderful experience was the wine tasting, and the delicious bread and cheese platters. We ordered a couple of bottle and Spier kindly offered to courier them back home to Kwazulu Natal free of charge. Needless to say, we have already booked for December and we taking our kids too! The children facilities looked amazing, we are eager to try out the Eagle Encounter. Spier truly is a little piece of heaven. Read less

Me and my husband met at Spier while we both worked there. I can honestly say, it is still the Spier Family. We fell in love all over again and we will surely visit soon. This time with the rest of our family.

The idea of an extended stay on a world renowned wine farm in the beautiful Wester Cape was tantalizing. Unfortunately dreams and reality are often far removed and this was certainly our experience at Spier. Without going into too much detail I have to rate the overall experience as underwhelming. One significant aspect was that a very large corporate function was held on Freedom Day (27 April). The event was not communicated prior to our arrival nor upon our arrival. We had restricted usage of some facilities for that day but that wasn't too much of an issue. The primary issue was the noise that went with the event....a deep base that seemed to never end. Fortunately this is not the never ending story and I can confirm that I will never ever be staying at Spier again. Read less
