We stayed in a superior room which was certainly worth the additional expense and were lucky to have one of the best views of the ocean and grounds. (Room 201). Some people MIGHT find the incline of the slope to the less expensive rooms a little too much effort. The room was of a good standard with a fine balcony. Very well tended twice daily. Facilities were excellent. Food extremely varied and tasty. Service was very good and prompt even when very busy. Entertainment was okay. Not so impressed with the fact that ALL poolside sunbeds somehow were ‘taken’ by circa 7 a.m. even though the system employed SHOULD have prevented that happening. We were not bothered as we preferred other areas but for SOME people it might be annoying. The gardens are beautifully kept. The beach is excellent and the security as good a job as possible for the most part in preventing the beach boys from marring a walk along the beach…. A far better job than they do in Kenya!! The colours of the sea are spectacular, akin to the Maldives. Adore the palm trees, exotic plants, weaver birds busy making their nests here, there and everywhere. Spotlessly clean throughout. Plenty of sunbeds, seating at mealtimes, snack and bar areas etc. Plenty of shade if so required. One nice establishment, worthy of a visit. Read less

What a wonderful stay we had..... we stayed 11 days. Firstly the amazing staff; everyone was wonderful from the concierge, reception, bar, spa, restaurant, to the hotel representative etc; Abdullah, Witness, Rehema, Mary, Joyce, Helen (massage therapist), Op”una (reception)?!, Nadrah (housekeeping), Ahmed, Mustafa, young trainee lady from restaurant / bar, Wahid (hotel rep) and of course the fantastic Lidya! which always greeted us with our names (she also remembered our room number) had a lovely smile (incl the other staff) and Lidya always had time for us ;))!! For my birthday over at the Bahary Grill Restaurant I had a huge birthday surprise after dinner : a birthday cake including most of the staff singing for me in English and Swahili - it brought me to tears of joy!!! Food was fantastic, plenty of choice & we loved the salads / soups & fresh fruit - all was so fresh, thanks to all chefs and team! There were always sun beds available to enjoy the amazing view over the beach , with high and low tide. The gardens with the plants / trees are stunning, and all so clean.. housekeeping did put down the mosquito net / mosquito spray in the room every day in the evening, which was very helpful! Some small suggestions only; perhaps a minibar with just standard drinks incl beer / water , if possible... ? Maybe daily changing cocktails, could be lesser choice then.. also some Ice cream available as part of all inclusive ? maybe also a daily activity sheet given to guests, like small Zumba, bingo etc. ? We went to do the stone town & spice tour for 1 day which was fantastic, we learned a lot about culture / local food. To mention, as we both work in catering ourselves and do understand hospitality service, the hotel can be very proud of their staff! Thank you for the great time we had! I have just come back home from a week in Zanzibar which was one of the destinations in my wishlist and where I wanted to spend my birthday. I planned everything on my own and after comparing and checking different hotels I chose the Bluebay basically because of its location and the half board. The hotel met and even exceeded my expectations. The location is amazing and the bungalows and rooms scattered through palm trees and so much vegetation are ideal to relax and make you feel at home. Even if hotel had full occupancy I haven't ever had the feeling to stay in a crowded place. My room had garden view so and pretty far from the beach but I could enjoy a little almost private pool in that side of the complex and also the daily walk to the restaurant and beach. Room was very clean and quiet, added value were the following: mosquito net with spray every night, European plugs with no need of adaptors, good wifi connections, TV international channels, a bottle of water on a daily basis. I would have preferred a room on a second floor to have a better view but I was just in the room for sleeping so actually was not a problem either. The beach is amazing with changing breathtaking sea colors and tides are not a problem. At the restaurant buffet is very varied and rich in quality and quantity both for breakfast and dinner. I don't eat meat and every day I could enjoy fresh grilled fish. For my birthday I got a surprise from the restaurant staff taking me a spe ial cake at the end of dinner and singing "Happy Birthday" in English and Swahili, totally unexpected and a very original way to end a special day! Staff has always been helpful and available, special thanks to Simona, Matui and Pembo (front office) Abdullah, Jonathan and Sajeed. I would like to come back maybe with family or friends and enjoy even more the facilities both in Bluebay and Sultan Sands as my stay has been very short and had no time to enjoy everything. Apart from sunbathing at the hotel I did a few tours and it has always been a pleasure being back to the hotel at night and relaxing during the dinner or listening to some good local music..it fell like being home. Definitely I would highly recommend this resort to all people who want to relax in a breathtaking environment. This year I can say my BDay was very special! Read less
