Diamonds, of course, is built to maximize your view of those natural wonders. It's a really beautiful property - tropical trees everywhere, minimal signage, construction that blends into the landscape. The rooms: Very clean, simply furnished, and again, most room are going to give you a balcony and view of the beach/ocean. The staff: Everyone very friendly and conversational, which was wonderful. The management was also very helpful - we had a technical issue with the AC in our room, and the moved us to another room right away. The food: If you're here you're probably buying the all-inclusive package. The food at the main restaurant was very good - lot of options and all high quality. However beyond that, the other options were not overly impressive. Read less

The food was good, not excellent and so delicious, but still good! Nice drinks in the bar. Pool and beach area are amazing. The ocean is not so pleasant for swimming (some sticky animals (fishes or jelly fishes i don't know exactly) all over the place. They are harmful but still annoying. No option for snorkeling on this beach. You have to go to one of the additional excursions. Entertaining staff was very good. We enjoyed some water aerobics, beach football and ping pong. Apart from the food, New years Eve was not organized well at all. We had to move from the restaurant to the bar half an hour before 00:00 o'clock and we were too many people for this bar. We didn't get the chance to take some drinks at all. The staff did everything they could, the worked so hard in the bar but the management didn't think of that there were too many people at a time. Apart from the bar staff, the staff in the restaurants were slowly most of the times. Most of the times you have to repeat several times what you want. However we had a great time and the complex is amazing. Read less

Two important things to mention about Zanzibar, beaches are amazing and people are genuinely nice. And this was also felt in the hotel! The hotel Diamonds is a good choice, clean and well managed. We liked the fact also that the pool was just close to the beach, so we could have our seats between the two. The food was ok. Not amazing, but reasonably good. In the restaurant a la carte (where we had to pay), it was better! The hotel is kids friendly, but not kids oriented. There were maybe a total of 8 or 9 kids of different ages in the resort during the week, out of few hundreds of people. So not many. The kids club is not really a kids club… Two or 3 people are there to entertain the kids, sometimes one, but they are not really trained to really organize activities. They were more baby-sitting. But without many kids (only mine…), I must admit it was difficult to organize activities. Still, it would be good the hotel to provide more beach stuff to entertain the kids (especially that we cannot really buy in the hotel or around). 2 small irritants to mention Funny enough, everybody is trying to sell you as intermediary some tours/ expeditions, including the staff of the hotel on their own. Maybe this practice is tolerated by the hotel management, why not. But I was still surprised and upset when the responsible of the sailing activity refused to provide me and my family life jackets (which are suppose to be free for hotel guest) because I didn’t buy my boat expedition through him personally. We had to leave the hotel at 5:00AM for the airport. We couldn’t get something to eat and we had 1:30 hour of shuttle transfer + 2 hours waiting at the airport where you find vey poor and limited possibilities to eat. I had to give kitkat chocolate bars to my kids to calm their hungriness… This is something (providing basic food) I would have expected from a 5 star hotel to consider providing as attention, and considering the long road to the airport. Out of this, I keep a very positive opinion about my stay in Diamonds. To summarize, very nice hotel, good quality, food is fine, it’s ok to go with kids, but without expecting them to receive from hotel plenty of activities/ entertainment. Read less

The first thing one has to say about this hotel is that it is situated in a wonderfully well-kept garden, in which an army of gardeners and other staff keep everything in the best condition. The garden is a slope that descends to the sea. The single apartments are in groups of seven or eight and in three floors terraced so embedded in the landscape that seen from below they hardly attract attention . Each apartment has its own small terrace and sea view. The apartments themselves are of sufficient size. The wardrobe is extremely sparse. The suitcase shelves no longer work. There are also other small defects indicating that a renovation will soon be due after almost ten years of use. There is nothing wrong with the catering: Fruits as much as you want. European breakfast (for example with muesli and porridge) no problem. What is noticeable in a negative way: those who want to dance depend on the time from 22:45 (Sunset Lounge bar, one dances on planks). Swimming in the sea is possible at low tide and high tide (in contrast to the east coast of Zanzibar). The staff is, as actually everywhere on Zanzibar, extremely friendly and obliging. And if you like, you can be transported anywhere in the electric car. The gym is nice, too, but seems to be rarely used. Among the guests, following an old tradition, Italians dominate. Recently, the Poles and South East Europeans make up a large proportion. Germans (here rather Swiss: the hotel being under Swiss management) or French people, even Englishmen are rather rare. There is something about the apartments that could be unpleasant: the air conditioning works well. But it is provided by cooling units that are located at the head of each row and make a lot of noise. You should definitely avoid apartments at the beginning and end of each row of 7 or 8. (Stairs lead down to the beach between the four apartment blocks). Read less
