Doubletree By Hilton Stone Town

Zanzibar, Tanzania

The hotel

A stopover in Stone Town is a sure-fire way to add an authentic Zanzibar experience to your beach holiday – and DoubleTree by Hilton puts you a stone’s throw from all that’s happening in town. In the buzz of the meandering residential back streets, you’ll instantly feel part of the local scene, with the UNESCO World Heritage town’s sights, markets, and restaurants a stroll from your door. Stone Town’s also the starting point for many tours in Zanzibar, giving you extra scope to soak up island life. The local vibe continues with the hotel’s historic architecture, true Swahili styling, and homely touches like warm chocolate chip cookies on arrival. But there’s one treat in store the neighbours here won’t have – the fine sunset views from Taarab Restaurant & Bar, taking pride of place on the hotel’s rooftop.

I really enjoyed my stay even though it was only one night. The rooms are very nice and the staff is friendly and helpful. The location is a little tricky to find, but easily walk-able from anywhere in Stone Town. I prefer an actual shower with curtains or doors instead of the wet room, but that is the only negative. Next time I am in Stone town,… Read more

The hotel is very nice, a/c. Hot water . Located centrally in heart of historical stone town; but the highlight is the hotel’s Chef Alex is amazing. Always smiling and you can feel his passion in the food. He greets you and wants to hear your feedback personally.

We had to stay one night in Stone Town as part of a safari/beach package adventure. Our agent booked us here and as it was only one night we didn't think much about it.... but it was superb and if we ever return to Stone Town for longer I wouldn't think twice about staying somewhere else. We arrived early and we knew our room wouldn't be ready; we had to kill several hours in Stone Town. After our amazing welcome cookie the hotel kindly locked away our luggage and off we went immediately realising how centrally located this hotel is... everything is right on your door step. Freddy Mercury's House and all the shopping you need right around the corner but as it's tucked away it's also nice & quiet. We were tired so opted to go back to the hotel and wait for our room in the terrace bar. However, to our surprise it was ready early and not only that, they had recognised it was my birthday and upgraded us to Suite 401 at the top. It was HUGE and the bed was so comfy. The bathroom was amazing and the walk in shower was just what we needed after a lot of travelling. The views weren't great which I'm guessing is the same in any room but that didn't matter to us. We had booked an evening meal in the rooftop restaurant and this was 5 star all the way for a very good price. Then, they even brought out cake and the whole team sang me happy birthday! What an amazing start to the best holiday ever. Thank you Double Tree Stone Town. Read less

If you want to be in Stone Town this hotel is perfect. The location is excellent; the service is very kind and welcoming and the room has everything you need. It's not a luxury hotel but it offers very good value for money and I was very pleased with the choice. Breakfast was very good and the roof-top restaurant is a very nice one.

My stay in Zanzibar during June 2019 was marvelous. From the warm reception, room upgrade, amazing breakfast, and incredible warmth and friendliness of the staff. I learned so much about the beautiful people/history of Zanzibar from staff before I even ventured from the hotel.
