Zuri Zanzibar Hotel & Resort

Zanzibar, Tanzania

The hotel

The beach steals the show at Zuri Zanzibar, with its cashmere-soft sands unaffected by the island's tides. But, as you make your way to its private shore, the Zuri throws many distractions your way. There are the winding paths through its spice gardens, where private pods promise quiet meditation and Swahili cookery lessons. There are the massages of MAUA Wellness. There are the tempting scents from its restaurants and bars. And there are the sumptuous suites and villas (where an All Inclusive upgrade can give you added indulgences and seclusion). And finally, just moments from Kendwa Beach's sands, a sleek infinity pool tempts you in for a dip with ocean views.

After an adventurous week in the Serengeti, we came to Zuri for rest and relaxation. I fell in love with this hotel from shots a friend posted on Instagram and thought it was the perfect hotel to celebrate my husband's milestone birthday! We were not disappointed. One of our main considerations when booking trips is sustainability. Our safari was with an eco-friendy company and Zuri was the first hotel in the world to be awarded Earthcheck's Sustainable Design Gold Certification. You feel immersed in nature from the moment you arrive and the bungalows are simply stunning and so comfortable. Showering outdoors, reading in the hammock and falling asleep under the mosquito net are absolute bliss! The resort grounds are green and gorgeous. We loved the layout and quiet walks in the Spice Garden where a gardner pointed out an endangered Red Colobus monkey enjoying some fruit! The yoga pavilion is so tranquil and the restaurants and pool well situated. We had fantastic food in all 3 restaurants and the staff are lovely! The beach location was an important consideration. You can swim in the sea here regardless of the tides which is not the case on most of Zanzibar. The bartenders are the best and this is the perfect place for sundowners around the campfire. We really enjoyed this ritual each evening with live music or a DJ. The vibe is just incredible! Tanzania was my 80th country and I am not easily impressed but Zuri is one of the best resorts ever! We will definitely be back! Read less

Zuri definitely has it all going for it. The location is unsurpassable. The bungalows and gardens are immaculate and simply amazing. The rooms are beautifully appointed and exquisitely furnished. There’s attention to detail in every single component. The luxury of having access to a public beach and then a single step away into your private beach area is priceless. The staff are friendly and attentive and kudos to Safina and bora who made every meal pleasurable with smiles and great service. Afternoon sunsets are an experience due to it being one of the few resorts that still have a bonfire on the beach and due to the resort being sunset facing, these are the perfect ingredients for amazing sunsets. The only comments what I would make regarding improvement are: 1) for a 5 star hotel at this pricing, it should be a basic requirement to have a coffee machine in each bungalow; 2) the buffet at upendo leaves a lot to be desired and certainly not up to standard for a 5 star resort of this calibre; 3) outside shower isn’t really useful as it’s visible from other bungalows; 4) Covid test has to be done at stone town which is a 2 hour return trip by car... service should be offered in house. 5) Pricing of accommodation needs to be revisited. As a comparison, one can book the Maldives, Constance moofushi, from the 2nd to 9th September 2021 for 4K USD, which is approximately 600 USD more than Zuri for the same time. Constance however is a premium all inclusive resort( albeit more complicated to reach) whilst zuri isn’t. Perhaps this isn’t a fair comparison due to seasons but it is certainly a factor to consider when selecting a resort. As I type this, I’m laying on a sunbed on Zuris impeccable beach, looking at the ocean about to have a cold cocktail and thinking that life could not be better so thank you to Zuri for making this possible. We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome at Zuri and made to feel right at home. We arrived earlier than check in but were able to store our bags and use the resort until our room was ready. The resort itself is fantastic with a lovely private beach and quiet swimming pool. The design of the hotel and room was beautiful where we had a great balcony with hammock and seating area. The whole hotel is very tropical. Our room, although lovely, seemed to have a big bug problem where i had to dispose of over 50 creepy crawlies before being able to get into bed. The f&b at Zuri is also very expensive for the quality of their food. It seems that you are paying for the surroundings rather than the quality. Kilimanjaro beer priced at $7 typifies the ‘hike’ in price, where you can walk 5 minutes down the beach and pay Tsh6,000 for the same beer. My partner was very excited at the prospect of getting some Yoga in during our stay, however this is chargeable to guests. This again being priced at $50 a sessions seems to be extremely expensive, even when traveling from Dubai. Read less

Dear Zuri Zanzibar, me and my wife had such a great enjoyable memorising moments at Zuri . As we decided to stay for 5 nights to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was magical the moment we entered the resort till the last day of our stay , the room was clean cold quite and with a perfect view on the the Indian Ocean, the buffet restaurant was great to sit in although would prefer to have more food options , I loved the food served at Bahari and maisha . The food and the service were really great , and Mr. Romany made our stay specially at the last two nights unforgettable as he paid attention to our preferable diet . We did spend a great time in our cooking class which I do recommend, somethings that I will always remember walking at the beach every day till sunset and watching the staff setting the bonfire something we we miss already. , I would recommend the sunset boat cruise with Abeed and songoro they are very professional sailors. We had at Zuri such a great time , great beautiful moments and great opportunity to meet friends , culture and food. We can’t wait to come back again and to meet our friends from Zuri , Veronica , Fatema , Maryam , Oscar , Abeed , Romany , Hassan , Munther , the chief , all the security guards and the Masai Read less
