Zuri Zanzibar Hotel & Resort

Zanzibar, Tanzania

The hotel

The beach steals the show at Zuri Zanzibar, with its cashmere-soft sands unaffected by the island's tides. But, as you make your way to its private shore, the Zuri throws many distractions your way. There are the winding paths through its spice gardens, where private pods promise quiet meditation and Swahili cookery lessons. There are the massages of MAUA Wellness. There are the tempting scents from its restaurants and bars. And there are the sumptuous suites and villas (where an All Inclusive upgrade can give you added indulgences and seclusion). And finally, just moments from Kendwa Beach's sands, a sleek infinity pool tempts you in for a dip with ocean views.

Zuri Zanzibar is perhaps one of the most unique places we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. It is situated on a patch of land north of the island that feels like complete paradise. Tucked away in the tropical jungle, but just in reach of the life that lights up the beautiful island - its people. The beach is a mesmerising haven of white sand under shady palms and completely breathtaking. The bungalows are beautifully luxurious yet in keeping with the surrounding nature and tucked away in the green paradise that offers you complete privacy. The cuisine at Zuri is superb – delicious local produce that is prepared and presented with the utmost care. The difference here is, the love these people put into everything. There is also little waste. It's about quality here, not quantity. Zuri has managed to strike the balance between exclusivity and humility. They have achieved absolute perfection in service excellence, created a mesmerising destination and held onto the honest beauty of the land by honouring it in every aspect of what they do. They allow you to begin believing the place is entirely yours. You are left to enjoy the complete peace, but service is always at hand. There is no way to describe the kindness and sincerity of the people of Zanzibar. It is as though the people here have not been changed by the way of the world. The things I found the most poignant, were the giant baobab trees, pineapples growing from the ground, all the spices under the sun which you’ve only ever seen in a jar – all here in what feels like a natural wonderland. The evenings strolling up to the lounge after dinner to select a book (an exquisite collection) and watching the large lanterns sway gently in the warm evening air, or going for a walk on the beach in the moonlight, laughing with the Masai, watching the giant snails make their way across the steps early mornings - the tranquillity of it all, the beauty of this setting, the honesty of the people. Our time here will be remembered long after the sand we brought home in our suitcases and between book pages slowly completely disappears. This is not a generic resort like the Four Seasons or Six Senses – it by far exceeds it, or any expectations we may have had. It is honest and true to itself and to the island and its people, and beautiful in every possible way. My last memory, is of the General Manager quietly listening from afar that I was hungry before we departed and discreetly locating the fine box of produce that had already been prepared for our journey and passing it to us just as the car door was about to close. As we drove away, he shared a smile with the Masai guard. I knew that what we left behind was possibly one of the most treasured experiences we would ever have. To all at Zuri – particularly Marianna, Romany, Oscar and Ramadhan for the cocktails! – you really have built something quite special here and we are truly grateful for having had the chance to experience this. We left with much happiness and hope for the New Year in our hearts. Thank you. Read less

We planned to stay at the Zuri in Zanzibar this time to seek a new experience as every hotel offers their own individual experience, and I must say we were not disappointed . This was my 4th and best stay in Zanzibar yet. I feel that the Zuri captures every aspect of a good time . Firstly the hotel itself is so well made articulate, artistic , you can tell that every little detail has had a lot of thought put into it . It is rustic , boho chic and complete luxury. Upon arrival you are enveloped in good energy blissful ness and calm . Surrounded by an eden of tropical rainforest. A true escape away from the rest of the world . The white stoned walkways resembling the white sandy beach. Walking down from my room or reception to the beach following the lush trail, As I lifted my head I was blown away by the most vivid hues of aquamarine and turquoise only to be welcomed by what is surely one of the best beaches in the world . The service at the zuri was immpeccable a smiling face at every corner willing to go the extra mile to accommodate us . Not once did we encounter a member of staff who exudes any sort of attitude otherwise . We made a connection with almost all the staff there and saying goodbye was a hard thing to do . People like Romany the food and beverage manager , Hussein , Bora , our cleaning lady milembe and everyone else at this splendid resort is what takes it to the next level and sets itself apart from the rest . Lively when looking for a vibe yet private and secluded . Asante Sana Zuri ! Until next time . Although set deep in nature we had no issues with pesty bugs or unwanted visitors. Of course it’s hard to completely get a way from mosquitoes but even this was at a bare minimum compared to other places I have stayed at previously. A special Thank You to Romany . As busy as he was he never forgot to personally greet us and find out if everything was going as smooth as we would like . He organized a car to take us to the hospital when my son fell ill in a few minutes and even accompanied us there to make sure we were okay . I am so appreciative and looking forward to seeing you all soon . Iman, Mahomed , Rizvaan, Bouchra , Sofiya and Ibraheem . Read less
