Zuri Zanzibar Hotel & Resort

Zanzibar, Tanzania

The hotel

The beach steals the show at Zuri Zanzibar, with its cashmere-soft sands unaffected by the island's tides. But, as you make your way to its private shore, the Zuri throws many distractions your way. There are the winding paths through its spice gardens, where private pods promise quiet meditation and Swahili cookery lessons. There are the massages of MAUA Wellness. There are the tempting scents from its restaurants and bars. And there are the sumptuous suites and villas (where an All Inclusive upgrade can give you added indulgences and seclusion). And finally, just moments from Kendwa Beach's sands, a sleek infinity pool tempts you in for a dip with ocean views.

A big shout out and specific mention of appreciation to Romany the food and beverage manager at the hotel. He took our experience at the hotel to another level and was so generous to go out of his way to ensure we were comfortable and well taken care of. He is definitely one of the reasons we will be returning to Zuri. Another mention is for Pia who made us feel at home. She resembles the soul of Tanzania. Pure and Sweet. Thank you Zuri. Read less

If you travel to Zanzibar, Zuri resort is the place you want to visit. We also went to another resort in Zanzibar that was rated very good, but there is no comparison to Zuri. First of all, Zuri Zanzibar has by far the best beach and sea in the entire Zanzibar. The water at Zuri is about same as in Maldives, while you must know that other resorts in Zanzibar don't have this water and beach. The rooms at Zuri are actually individual bungalows that are very nice, each of them offers a nice deck. The restaurant is very nice and cosy, and the food is really good. Would be nice if the food variety would slightly increase, as to include also more seafood and fish. Also the personnel is very nice and trying to satisfy all your requests. One thing, be careful about the umbrellas at the pool, they do not have UV protection, so even under the umbrella you can get sun burnt. Overall i highly recommend this resort, if you will go there you will be happy with your choice. Don't bother searching for a better resort in Zanzibar, there isn't any :) I would definitely return to Zuri if i visit Zanzibar again. Read less

We visited Zanzibar in 2016 and had a great time on the East coast of the island, but this time I wanted a location where the sea was better suited for swimming and boat excursions. Zuri was recommended to me, and it certainly delivered everything we wished for. The hotel is new, has beautiful gardens, Wi-Fi throughout (even on the beach) and the rooms are perfect. Each room is a ‘standalone’ chalet in what can only be described as a tropical garden – coconut palms and banana plants surround you. We were lucky to have a bit of a sea view which only a few chalets have. The chalets have large terraces with hammocks and outdoor shower (there is an internal one as well). The rooms have very modern, hi-tech and eco-friendly A/C, fans and lighting. Zuri has a very good beach, although there is the challenge of the pressure of locals trying to make a living selling trips, souvenirs etc. and the hotel trying to let clients enjoy some peace and privacy. The food is truly first class and the Food & Beverage Manager took a keen and professional interest in the guests’ feedback. It does not matter if it’s buffet, a la carte or snacks at the beach – all is delicious. For those loving diverse local cuisine, local seafood, local fruit and lots of choice this is the place for you. As we were all-inclusive I was reluctant to pay $65 a head for the beach BBQ, but I am glad we did as the sea food was out of this world. I never thought I would say that I enjoyed the octopus over a lobster! For those wanting to book excursions there is plenty of opportunity and I booked sea fishing. The spa is particularly good offering excellent treatments and there is an outdoor exercise area/gym. The staff at the bars and restaurants are extremely polite, hard working and always trying to make sure you have what you need. A special thanks to barman Kevin, Mary and Evangelina for looking after us so well and making our stay so special. My only minor negative comments would be that although my wife thoroughly enjoyed the yoga (Patricia is an excellent instructor) , at $30 a 75-minute session it is unusual to have to pay, especially if you are on an all-inclusive package. Also, the staff are delightful, but the front of house/reception team did seem to lack the perfection of the other teams e.g. no welcome drink on arrival and we were very thirsty, no real concern when I was trying to find my glasses which I possibly left at reception and no real concern or follow up for cream the doctor was supposed to leave at reception for me for an allergy. Overall, a truly great hotel on a fabulous tropical island and we really hope to return one day. Read less
