A wonderful tour where you’ll see and savour the immense richness of this beautiful region. From the wilds of Kruger National Park to the cosmopolitan sophistication of Cape Town, you’ll come to understand why South Africa is dubbed ‘A World in One Country’.
Day 1: Sunday
Jumbo and a warm welcome to Africa! Upon arrival in Johannesburg airport, you will be met and transferred to Protea Hotel Wanderers or similar for an overnight stay. Spend the rest of the day at leisure or take an optional afternoon Soweto tour (bookable locally). Later this evening at 7:00pm you will met up with your tour guide again for a briefing about the tour and meet your fellow travllers.
Day 2: Monday
Leaving Johannesburg’s distinctive skyline behind, head for Pretoria, South Africa’s capital city, for a short orientation tour before continuing to Mpumalanga. Dropping several hundred feet into the lush subtropical region of the Lowveld, we travel via the historic towns of Dullstroom and Lydenburg. After traversing the famous Long Tom Pass, we travel via Sabie and arrive late afternoon into Hazyview, the safari hub of the Kruger National Park. Stay at Perry’s Bridge Hollow or similar for the next 3 nights (B)
Day 3: Tuesday
After a sumptuous early morning breakfast, we journey up the awe inspiring Panorama Route with its forested mountains and fertile plains. After viewing the Blyde River Canyon (home to the Three Rondawels), Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window before arriving back in Hazyview in the early afternoon. The free time allows for a lazy afternoon relaxing around the pool or an exciting afternoon game activity in the Kruger National park that is bookable locally. (B)
Day 4: Wednesday
Leave before breakfast in an open safari vehicle in search of the ‘Big Five’ and all manner of wondrous wildlife in the Kruger National Park. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 5: Thursday
Enjoy an enchanting drive to the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland (approximately 2-3 hours), a former British Protection Territory, now ruled by King MsWati III. An interactive cultural experience and lunch introduces you to the charming people of Swaziland and their traditions. Continue through the capital city, Mbabane, and on to the beautiful Ezulwini Valley, home to the vibrant Ezulwini Craft Market where you will stay at Royal Swazi Spa Hotel or similar. (B/L/D)
Day 6: Friday
Start the day with a true African shopping experience at the vibrant Ezulwini Craft Market which is packed with woven baskets, beadwork and carvings. Afterwards, we travel into Zululand (approximately 4 hours), passing traditional round huts and endless vistas. Arrive mid-afternoon at Anew Hotel Hluhluwe & Safaris or similar. (B)
Day 7: Saturday
This morning enjoy a cruise on Lake St Lucia before departing for Durban (approximately 2-3 hours) via the lush KwaZulu Natal coastline en-route to Durban, arriving in the early afternoon at Protea Hotel Umhlanga or similar. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Day 8: Sunday
After breakfast you are collected and transferred to King Shaka International Airport for your morning flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival, you will be met by a new guide who, upon everyone arriving, will guide you through the glorious indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest, before reaching Knysna (approximately 3 hours), perhaps South Africa's most visually stunning resort in the heart of the famous Garden Route. Stay at The Rex Hotel or similar for the next 2 nights. (B/D)
Day 9: Monday
Cruise the vast Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Enjoy an amazing view of the imposing sandstone 'Heads' which guard the sea entrance to Knysna's huge tidal lagoon, and the forests, marshes and pristine beaches beyond. After lunch, the remainder of the day is at leisure. (B/L)
Day 10: Tuesday
Today we enjoy the wonderful views of the Outeniqua Pass en- route to Oudtshoorn (approximately 4-5 hours), the 'feather capital of the world', so named because it is the centre of South Africa's ostrich industry. After lunch which features Ostrich Steak on the menu, enjoy a tour of an Ostrich farm and learn about these creatures. We then head underground for a fascinating tour of the Cango Caves, one of South Africa's natural wonders. Stay overnight at Hlangana Lodge or similar. (B/L)
Day 11: Wednesday
Today there is an option (own account and subject to availability) to enjoy an early morning Meerkat Safari. Witness these incredible wild habituated creatures emerging out of their burrows, in time to soak up the sun before they head about their daily activities (weather permitting). After this thrilling experience, head back for a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, the journey continues through the 'Little Karoo' to Barrydale, where you will have the opportunity to visit a local farm school, interact with the children and teachers, spending time with them in the classroom learning more about the local farming community, before travelling to Montagu, a picturesque and historic spa town. (The school visit is subject to the school being open). Continue to Franschhoek, a picturesque village surrounded by spectacular vineyards, where French Huguenots settled more than 300 years ago, bringing with them their age-old French wine and food culture. From here you will be transferred to Cape Town, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain. Stay at Hotel President or similar for the next 3 nights. (B)
Day 12: Thursday
Enjoy a full day at leisure. Perhaps join a sightseeing tour to Table Mountain (own account) or simply explore the city. Although a small city, Cape Town is packed with sightseeing attractions, excellent bars, cafes and restaurants as well as colourful craft markets. Alternatively relax on one of Cape Town's many pristine beaches. Enjoy an evening of delicious Cape food, captivating theatre and entertaining tales and songs about the people of the Cape. (B/D)
Day 13: Friday
Tour the ruggedly beautiful Cape Peninsula today via the Atlantic Seaboard. We stop at the fishing village of Hout Bay, where you can take an optional cruise to Seal Island to watch the antics of these natural performers. Then we continue to the Cape Point Nature Reserve. En-route back to Cape Town you'll drive through the quaint naval village of Simons town before stopping off at Boulders Beach to see the penguins! (B)
Day 14: Saturday
Alas you tour has come to an end. Today you will be transferred back to Cape Town airport for your onward travel arrangements back to the UK. (B)
