The Royal Livingstone Victoria Falls by Anantara

Livingstone, Zambia

The hotel

Bathed in the shade of Acacia trees, the raw splendour of this special environment blends beautifully with this exceptional hotel. Reaching new levels of luxury and sophistication, this is the place for the discerning traveller, with every detail crafted to capture all the opulence of a bygone Africa. Set inside the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, zebra, giraffe and monkey roam freely through the grounds. Stretched along the forested banks of the River Zambezi, you can pass lazy days on the magnificent sun deck overlooking the river with the deck seemingly within touching distance of the rainbow-infused mist of the magnificent falls. Enjoy a sumptuous traditional high tea served every afternoon on the terrace taking in that view again, you may even catch a glimpse of hippos. The thatched-roof buildings have handsome rooms with cream-coloured walls and dark wood, and they all point the right way - towards the Zambezi. The restaurant serves renowned international cuisine and the Anantara Spa offers all kinds of treatments including Ukuchina - a traditional Zambian massage.

All in all, it has very high qualities in every aspect to define a good hotel. I’m definitely coming back for vacations. Read less

Don't think there's better location in the whole planet, but what really makes a difference is the new management. Excellent Service. Great location and super relevant workers in Victoria. It is a hotel that can be lived in. I would definitely recommend. It is a hotel where you can stay without thinking to spend time with your family. We're looking forward to come back again.

We stayed at the Royal Livingstone for a week, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. We can’t rave enough about the animals on the hotel grounds. Having Giraffes, and Zebras, all around us, all the time made our stay so memorable. We also had Baboons and monkeys as well to keep company. We traveled with an 8 year old and a 11 month old baby, and the seeing the animals from our room allowed us to not feel the need to do activities everyday. However we did our fair share of outings - the Victoria Falls was majestic, you can walk to the falls from the resort, and we visited the falls a few times. We also did the helicopter ride to get a different perspective, game drive at Mosi-o-Tunya, Mukuni Boma village at the resort, and also did a day trip to Chobe Botswana. What makes this place Royal is the people and the hospitality offered - from Laurie, and Bora (managers) who kept checking-in with us, to the housekeeper/butler assigned to our room Kennedy, Kabuku, Nefuno, to the front desk staff Judy, Chola, Ruth, Connie, to the wait staff Martha, Sidney, (missing several more), to the Bell staff Rodgers, Morgan, to the reservation agents Rah, Leah - a big thank you to all of you - our stay was exceptional because of you. Connie would check-in with us daily on WhatsApp, even during her days off, and Chola came in early on the checkout day to ensure we had everything sorted out. On one of the days, my daughter and I got very sick with a tummy bug, the hotel had a nurse and a doctor come and gave us an injection, which led to a speedy recovery (within a day). I worry about what we would have done, had we stayed elsewhere that didn’t have these amenities. This is our second Anantara experience, we just stayed at their Mozambique location and the Anantara promise unequivocally lives strong here at the Royal Livingstone in Zambia. In short, highly recommend the Royal Livingstone. If you are coming to the Victoria Falls area - you should stay at this resort, and plan to have an extended stay, you will be thankful you did, as were we. Read less
