The hotel

Bathed in the shade of Acacia trees, the raw splendour of this special environment blends beautifully with this exceptional hotel. Reaching new levels of luxury and sophistication, this is the place for the discerning traveller, with every detail crafted to capture all the opulence of a bygone Africa. Set inside the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, zebra, giraffe and monkey roam freely through the grounds. Stretched along the forested banks of the River Zambezi, you can pass lazy days on the magnificent sun deck overlooking the river with the deck seemingly within touching distance of the rainbow-infused mist of the magnificent falls. Enjoy a sumptuous traditional high tea served every afternoon on the terrace taking in that view again, you may even catch a glimpse of hippos. The thatched-roof buildings have handsome rooms with cream-coloured walls and dark wood, and they all point the right way - towards the Zambezi. We truly had such a superb time at the Royal Livingstone this past weekend. It greatly surpassed our expectations! Such care has been taken to ensure your stay is a luxurious one! We decided to opt for the Water Taxi transfer to the hotel which was absolutely stunning! As we hopped off the boat onto the hotel embankment, we were personally greeted by the staff playing African drums and whisked off to begin our check-in process. There was an issue with our booking on the system but the staff handled it quickly and got us sorted out in no time. Whilst you are checking-in you are given refreshing drink and a complimentary hand massage, both of which really set a wonderful tone for your stay. During our stay we ate at 2 of the restaurants on-site as well as had dinner on the Royal Livingstone Express. Every meal was sublime and the steam train experience is one that should not be missed! We also engaged in numerous actives that the Hotel has to offer, namely; the Sunset Cruise, Vic Falls Guided tour, Fishing on the Great Zambezi, Full-Body Massages in the River Cabanas, Bungee Jumping off Vic Falls Bridge, Dinner on the Steam Train and Feeding the Giraffe. Every activity was planned to perfection and allowed us to create so many cherished memories! The rooms were also every bit the luxurious and well-equipped. The vast amenities, especially the mozzie and insect repellent came in very useful! But nothing beats being able to sit out on your little private patio, sipping on your morning coffee and being able to watch Zebras graze right in-front of you. Even us, coming from Africa and having been around the African wildlife our entire lives, thoroughly enjoyed this. All in all we had an absolutely fantastic time at the Royal Livingstone hotel and simply cannot wait until we can visit again! Read less

This is the best place to stay in Livingstone. The location is superb, right on the Zambesi River and within walking distance to the Victoria Falls. The appointments are luxurious and the staff are wonderful. Enjoy a drink in the atmospheric old bar or on the outdoor bar overlooking the river. The rooms are in separate buildings strung out in a line with a pretty walk way to the main facilities. There is a pool but I did not try it. The main restaurant does an excellent breakfast but for dinner I preferred to eat in one of the bars. I recommend booking a guide to view the falls from the Zimbabwean side so that you get the front on view from that side, which is different from the side on view from the Zambian side. You may need to have US dollars available to pay for entry into Zimbabwe and on return to Zambia. Read less

This hotel is located right by the great Zambezi River, a very short distance from the famous Victoria Falls. One can sip coffee while relaxing at the edge of the flowing river. There are fun boat rides to an Island at the edge of the Victoria Falls right from here. Breakfast is served right at the Island. An unforgettable experince.

Three friends and I recently stayed at the Royal Livingstone for just one night while we transitioned from Botswana to a camp in Zambia. We received a lovely welcome by the staff with a song and dance. We also enjoyed the welcome cocktails and hand massages! The property itself is lovely. It has a perfect setting with the Zambezi river behind it and the sounds of Victoria Falls in the distance. We ended up walking over to the falls from our hotel twice during our short stay. Our rooms were lovely and was nice to have air conditioning for a night in between safari camp stays! We both had ground level rooms with beautiful patios overlooking the river. It was so fun to sit there and see the resident animals walking by. We ate lunch on the outdoor patio at the restaurant right on the river. The food was excellent. We ate dinner at the bar restaurant and while the food was good, the service was hit or miss. We either had 5 people descending upon the table within two minutes of each other or saw no one for 20 minutes. The breakfast that was included with the room stay is probably the best one I've ever seen. They had every type of baked good imaginable, loads of different types of breads, multiple type of fresh squeezed juices, fruits, meats and cheeses, yogurts, all of the special seeds and nuts and health food items for the yogurt, cereals, made to order stations and every hot item you can imagine. I wish I would have taken photos, it was that impressive. I would definitely like to return to the hotel one day to stay for a longer period of time. Read less

We stayed here to enable to visit Victoria Falls, which were within easy walking distance. We very much enjoyed the National Park aspect of the hotel, we are not likely to forget waking early one morning to find a giraffe sitting within feet of our patio!
