Victoria Falls Safari Lodge

Victoria Falls, Zambia

The hotel

Set around a wildlife-rich waterhole just 4km from Victoria Falls, this laid-back lodge brings together the thrill of a safari setting with the bucket list experience of seeing Zimbabwe’s biggest crowd-puller. The falls may be what draw the travellers to this part of Africa, but a stay at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge also gives you moments like dining on delicious dishes at MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant as you gaze down at elephants, buffalo, or kudu relaxing around the waterhole; or sipping sundowners at Buffalo Bar as you watch the sun set over the African bush; or experiencing the local drama of The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show. It may be the location, the views, or just its fuss-free, low-key attitude, but the Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents voted this lodge the Best Safari Lodge/Resort Hotel in Zimbabwe for 20 years in a row.

The Victoria Falls Safari Lodge certainly is a giant African tree house! The lodge is located on a hill which overlooks the Zambezi National Park. Everything about the lodge boasts "AFRICA". The main area in made up of the MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant, the Buffalo Bar and the Vulture Deck. The area is open, with the only "walls" being the wooden pillars that hold up this "treehouse". The view from this area is one to behold! Guests look out onto a water hole which the wild animals come and drink from daily - you'll be mesmerized by the beauty of the bush and the wildlife. Each room has a King size bed and a private balcony with some looking out into the bush and others looking out onto the waterhole! Other rooms are the suites, which are double story and include a lounge area downstairs - perfect for a business trip! These rooms also overlook the waterhole. The MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant is a 5-star experience. Meals are absolutely delicious, and service is impeccable. Other dining options are The Buffalo Bar for a lighter meal or the Boma Dinner & Drum Show for an exciting, traditional and interactive African experience! A vulture culture experience is held daily in front of the vulture deck, where the hotels guide feeds the vultures and educates guests about the importance of these birds in the African ecosystem. A wild experience as the vultures swoop down all at once to take their share! The staff at the lodge are amazing! Everyone is incredibly cheerful and helpful. Read less

We were staying at Lokuthula self catering but we had to get the hourly shuttle toTown, from the Safari Lodge. The driver was very nice and helpful and pointed out the different drop and collection points for the shuttle. On the Tuesday late afternoon, the driver pointed out Zebra (alongside the road to the Lodge) to us, and then on the Wednesday he spotted Buffalo - thank you driver (I never got his name). Everyone was so friendly and chatted to us whilst we waited for the shuttle, so we became known to them. Out front of the Lodge is a beautiful Baobab tre. There is a Plaque but it doesn't say how old the tree is. I discovered that they had a viewing deck to the Park, but I did not see any animals at that time of day. I presume they would come to the watering hole in the early morning. I went at another time and saw a buck and warthog to the side. We looked at the the Menu and decided to have supper on the Thursday evening. The Lodge has different kinds of accomodation but we were only about 7 people for supper. I had already decided what I was going to have (i.e. when we read the Menu - two days before). The pressed Pork Belly was very nice and well presented. The cheese cake dessert was good too but I should have chosen the Opera cake, i.e. if it looks like the pics on google!. The Waitron Christopher was very nice and when he presented the Bill, we were given a discount. Every bit helped as we were South Africans, who had to pay in US Dollars. Read less

We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of a Saga Tour, In The Footsteps of Livingstone. Accommodation was excellent with each bedroom having a balcony overlooking the waterering hole or game park, with good bathroom, mosquito nets over the very comfortable beds, free in room safe, very good internet access and tea/coffee facilities. We were able to watch so many animals from the comfort of our own balcony and in the evening we could even hear a herd of elephants passing by. Restaurant is semi open-air with fantastic views over the savannah where you can watch large herds of elephants, baboons and zebras, at the watering hole. A la carte menu is very good, but portion sizes are very big. At breakfast time, keep an eye on your food as the cheeky baboons were often seen stealing from the tables. Every day at 1pm, they feed the vultures and for an hour beforehand, you can watch the vultures flying in and resting on the tree tops awaiting their lunch. A sight worth watching. There is a small pool which was cold, with about a dozen sun loungers around it, where you were able to order food and drinks. The Hotel is situated about 10 mins drive from Victoria Falls and the Hotel operates a courtesy shuttle bus to the Falls every hour. Well worth a stay Read less
