The hotel

Set in tropical gardens and overlooking Jimbaran Bay on the island’s southern coast, the InterContinental Bali Resort is as beautiful as its surrounds, blending traditional Balinese architecture with modern convenience. There’s a wealth of accommodation options to choose from suiting both families, couples and groups of friends, each and every room or suite packed with home-from-home comforts. Choosing what to do each day is nothing less than a joy. There are six swimming pools to sample and water sports aplenty down at the beach. Children will adore time spent at Planet Trekkers, boasting its own swimming pool, climbing frame and mini-basketball compound. There’s also a range of activities they can join in, getting to know their fellow mini guests! Whilst they’re busy, why not head to the spa? A world-class facility, there are plenty of treatments to choose from, including a Pure Indulgence ritual and the Golden Lulur, which includes an aromatherapy flower bath – pure bliss! Dining is also a treat – feast on pizza by the pool, the barbecued catch of the day or the finest Japanese cuisine. the West coast where the Intercontinental is located is rather quiet and perfect for a private getaway to lock yourself in the room or spend time within the resort grands... Private side table check in counters is a great touch, you gotta orientate yourself as i instinctively went to the long counter and was told it's for check out and when checking out you also gotta ignore the signs at the side tables that say you can also check out there because even when available they will rush forward to direct you to the long counter... so much for intuitive Central reception is for check out only! Flower garlands upon arrival in addition to the customary local refreshments & towels is a nice touch Outside the hotel driveway to the right is a Starbucks but the road is kinda deserted, to the left are more shops with more people, overall outside there's little to see or shop The room is large & spacious with walls between the bathroom and room, this is kinda different in layout In the morning the sliding wooden doors to the balcony did not fully block out sunlight so sleeping may be disrupted (prolly only my room) While it's a beautiful property with giant ornamental sculptures and castle like turrets apart from being a fully functioning resort with many daily activities it's kinda isolated Taking a road trip out prolly 10-20mins you can get to Samasta, Jimbaran or Kuta a more happening place... ok i'm kinda biased as we normally like to go shopping, there's little of that here! We spent 5 nights here in early September. The concierge rang the gong to announce out arrival and ushered us to the IHG ambassador check in area, where a cold drink and cloth was offered to us. As a platinum member we were upgraded from a standard room to the Premium Duplex Suite which has a bedroom in a loft above the living area with a bathroom on each level! Complimentary water, coffee/teas & fruit was provided as well as access to the singaraja premium lounge which has happy hour (beer and wine) along with a small variety of snacks. A couple of pools and direct access to the beach with heaps of lounge chairs - get in quick for prime seats! Hotel also offers a timetable of free & charged activities like yoga, cooking, wood carving etc, we took advantage of a early morning bike tour which was $20pp. Our guide was attentive and made sure our safety was #1 riding on the Balinese streets. We ate at several of the restaurants with every meal being delicious - recommend the sunset bar for lighter meals. The staff were terrific - from restaurant staff to room attendants, every single one of them greeting us with a smile and hello everywhere we went. Overall a wonderful trip and one of the nicest Intercontinentals i have been to! Read less
