Novotel Lombok Resort and Villas

Lombok, Indonesia

The hotel

A stunning infinity-style pool lures you to swim up to its edge and gaze out at the ocean, or take the steps down from the water onto the white sands of Lombok – but it’s just one of the highlights of this low-key beachfront resort. Its other pools are equally enticing, located among the tropical gardens which also hold dining and drinking spots like a beachfront bar and family pub, water and land activities, and child-friendly fun. Close to Sade Village, local Lombok life’s not far away, but Novotel Lombok Resort & Villas gives you a taste of it without having to leave, with complimentary cultural activities, traditional Sasak architecture, and authentic dining at Spice Market, a beachfront eatery featuring International and Indonesian dishes and a different themed buffet every night

The fireworks at the countdown is very nice and the atmosphere is brilliant. Food at this hotel is not overly priced and so is the surrounding area. This may be our first choice hotel when in lombok. The Novotel Lombok is a relaxing, tropical hotel in unspoilt Lombok. It does have character that adds to the tropical experience however, it is showing signs of being run down and neglected in parts. The staff were welcoming, friendly and would more often than not step out of their way to ensure your stay was memorable. We stayed in a Sasak Villa with shared pool which on our arrival in the early hours was breathtaking albeit having to ask for bedding on the day bed that was allocated for our son to sleep in which they had been informed of prior to our arrival was slightly annoying. Unfortunately as the holiday progressed, we started experiencing issues. The air conditioning was noisy and not fully adequate. It tripped twice, so I guess that isn't too bad but in general it lacked power in an open space like the villa. The veranda's marble floor was dangerously slippery and we all skid around a few times, with our son taking a hard tumble on one occasion. We ended up putting towels on the ground to make it safer to walk on when we were wet. The food was quite disappointing in respect to the buffet breakfasts and dinners. Food choice at breakfast was quite good but a massive let down was the heat (or lack of) of the food. Unless you had made to order items, you could pretty much guarantee it would be luke warm or actually cold. This made the expensive dinner buffets even less appetizing! The themed buffet nights were not great due to the variety and quality. The al a carte menu was good, food always hot when it needed to be but did get tedious after 2 weeks there. Our biggest let down was the kids club. Having travelled the world and having the needs of both our son (who is 8) and ourselves to think about, we do tend to choose hotels that have kids clubs. This holiday was no different and I thought we had done our homework well enough to be satisfied with the kids club, we were so wrong. It was pretty much non existent with no atmosphere or enthusiasm from staff. On our second day I took my son there and we saw that there was a water gun activity scheduled. We left and came back, waited around 10 minutes then a lady came out of an air conditioned room with 2 water guns and told my son to go and find someone to play with! The hotel has no real kids club to speak of. It shouldn't matter how busy the hotel is, the staff should be enthusiastic and engaged enough in their job to be visually seen in the resort and encouraging children to play etc. There was a general lack of atmosphere within the resort. From a worldwide hotel chain we did expect better. This resort is well suited to couples who want to switch off and have peace for the entirety of their stay. It is not suited for a 2 week holiday with a child/children in our view. Unfortunately I can't see us returning. Read less

Pool and bar area great , staff to beach cabanas could have been more attentive, we would have used more if available. We used the Drivers to take us to Kuta , easy and Ello was fun and always seemed to know where we were and when we wanted to go home. Beach was a disappointment, they need a big clean up . Read less

We stayed at the Novotel Lombok resort in early January 2020 with our two little kids (age 5 & 3). It is the fourth time we're visiting this resort in the past 7-8 years, and it is still one of the nicest getaways on the south coast of Lombok. A beautiful setting right at the beach, the breezy, tropical set up of the restaurant, bar, pools and villas, the kids club and kids pools, and the vicinity to the dynamic city of Kuta Lombok is just perfect. The simple fact that the kids club (supervised) and playground is right next to the restaurant allows for a relaxing breakfast/lunch while the kids are off to play. This simple setup can make the world of difference when travelling as a young family! The pools also have different flat sections so the kids can play and slide. Our kids have been wanting to go back to this pool for the past 3 years since our last stay. A very special shout out goes to the current general manager of the hotel, Jan. He's doing an absolutely fantastic job of keeping the place run smoothly, pays attention to details and is always available when you need him. We loved the "management cocktail reception" they held for all guests on Thu night, with Jan taking his time to chat and share some stories with every single guest group who was there. We really noted the difference in management style since the past times we've stayed here. Read less

One of the older property in the area. As in current state, is in need for rejuvenation. Some public areas seemed newly revamped, but bedrooms were not. Check-in experience was unpleasant, courtesy of a front desk reception in who gave very little information, did not answer any questions and generally very unfriendly. Not a good first impression. Fortunately it got better; other service personnel were much friendlier. I was surprised to see there was no elevator access for rooms located in second and third floor. Only stairs. I imagine this could be an issue for people traveling with senior citizens or baby pram. Request in advance for ground floor if this is an issue for you. Or probably opt for one of their villas. Tip: do not ask for extra bed when you stay in one of their superior room, because they only put bedsheet over the built-in sofa/daybed in your room and charge around 450k per day. They did not put an actual extra bed in the room. So better to just ask for extra blankets, and use the daybed for free. Overall, I do not think my stay here was value for money. Such a pity, I had high expectations due to Novotel’s known reputation and its excellent location and beautiful setting. I’m not sure about the safety of swimming in their private beach because I encountered sea urchin while swimming. Freaked my kid when he saw it, so we spent the day by the swimming pool instead.
