Qunci Villas

Lombok, Indonesia

The hotel

Slinking along Mangsit Beach, three infinity pools hug the shoreline at Quinci Villas, with underwater benches designed so you can sit and gaze across the Indian Ocean to Mt Agung. In fact, it seems like almost everything is set along the beach here, from the yoga deck to the dining. Both open-air restaurants have seafront spots and offer dining on the beach; NooQ Lounge Bar brings you beachside drinks, tapas, and Thai dinners; and they even throw a weekly beachfront barbecue. In contrast, its spacious rooms and villas are tucked away in its glorious gardens, giving you a sense of pure privacy in tropical surrounds. And its island influences continue with Sasak dancing and stick fighting dinner shows, Qamboja Spa’s Javanese stone soaking tubs, and authentic Pasar Malam night markets, where you can dine on Indonesian street food to the sounds of Rindik drummers.

We booked a seaview room but changed that after 1 night into a pool villa. The room we had on the 1st floor had seaview but also half the view of a building in front of it. The pool villa is fantastic. Not even a small pool but quite a big one. The villa is spacious with an outdoor bathroom. That is not always convenient with the outdoor heath and cosmetics. In some situations the sun is heating up the space. But it certainly is an experience. The villas are very private compared to the standard rooms that are near the pool but not much privacy. Staff is extremely friendly and serviceminded. The 3 restaurants (Spanish tapas, Asian, Italian) are of really good quality. Dining can be inside but also beachfront. That is the same for breakfast. Great experience. It would be good though to have trainees wearing a badge so guests know that staff is in training. There is a small beach right in front of the hotel but cannot be used as such. A short walk brings you to a bit bigger beach. I would suggest to stay on comfortable beds at the pool. From the hotel excursions can be booked. Overall a nice hotel with fantastic sunsets Read less

Loving our stay at the Quinci. Villas are spacious, food fabulous and staff professional and eager to please. Spa is spotless and had a great treatment today from Amy and Rini. Very chilled vibe. Planning a return trip!

My husband and I came here as part of a trip to Indonesia for our fifth wedding anniversary. We purchased a Luxery Escapes package. We were unsure of the resort in general, but we decided to try it out anyway as we wanted to experience a bit of Lombok. I mentioned the occasion upon booking and Qunci acknowledged this but did nothing to help us celebrate it which was disappointing. We stayed in a one bedroom pool villa. The villa itself was okay, the bed was really comfortable and the pillows were great, but that's about all that was really good about the actual inside room. The art is really strange, the tiles were dirty (I thought it was just the tile design but then my husband rubbed some of the dirt off on the last day as a test) and it was awful waking up super early every morning due to the sunlight coming through the orange curtains. I didn't mind the layout of the room or the size of the room although the villa definitely had a strange smell (we think it was the thatched roof but after a few days we got used to it). The outside bathroom was sort of okay but the shower was useless... As you are outside with high walls the breeze and the wind would just get trapped inside the outdoor bathroom and would literally whoosh the shower water away!! We had to chase the water around to shower! It just made us cold and was completely useless. We didn't try the toiletries supplied as they were not enticing at all and the shampoo and conditioner bottles were a bit dirty. My husband was also very put off by all the mouldy rocks/big pebbles in the shower area (I hadn't actually noticed them). They obviously don't drain well so they have gone very mildewy. It just added to the dated look of everything. The villa pool was great, we loved the outdoor space with the plants and the lounge chairs etc. We spent a lot of time out of the villa here. The pool was always a great temperature. The food was a big issue for me... Everything that I tried from the resort I found repulsive and I just could not eat it. My husband thought the food was okay and he always liked his breakfasts, when they managed to get the order right that is. The menus are SO LONG with overly-elaborate dishes that we ended up eating over the road at Molly's and the resort The Sudamalas next door (their food was incredible!). It was confusing as there are so many great comments about the food at Qunci so I was really expecting some good food! Sure, not 3 hat restaurant style, but at least tasty! They try so hard to be super international that they have long lists of food options with so many ingredients or components that it's just over the top. It's a very old school way of doing food, and perhaps if they had less options they'd make their dishes even tastier. But, I think my opinion of the food here is a minority. Who knows. The staff were friendly and helpful, when we told Luxery Escapes we were not enjoying the hotel they did attempt to ask us how they could make it better but it was just at the point where there was nothing they could do. I didn't have any constructive ideas so we just let it be and tried to spend as much time as we could either at our pool or out of the resort, although we did seriously contemplate booking a new resort for the remaining days of our trip. While the staff were friendly, they also were quite invasive. It was impossible for me to have a conversation with my husband walking through the resort especially near the restaurants as staff wanted to always escort or invite you to sit to eat. Sometimes eye contact and a smile is all that is needed. It felt a lot like staff were expected to stop, look at and greet every single guest that walked past at all times. I felt a bit sorry for them and it got a bit irritating at times. We did organise a tour with the hotel, to go see waterfalls. We enjoyed the day, they supplied two bottles of water (lucky we also took our own) and also towels. We had a great driver and a great guide at the waterfalls so we really enjoyed the day. We also did other tours but through other companies while we were there. Qunci was a good location for being picked up for tours so that was nice and easy. We used the foot rejuvenation massage that was included in our package and the massages were quite nice. The spa had a nice view of the sky which was great as we booked at sunset so it was a pretty space for a relaxing massage. The general location was okay, the island is pretty big so depending on where you want to go it can take some time to get there. For example pink beach was really far so we didn't go, but the waterfalls were around 2 hours drive to get there and you see some cool views out of the car window on the way. There was a conscience store nearby which was handy as well as Molly's which we recommend you go for an evening to hang out and play music videos and have some yummy food. It isn't far from Sengiggi either. The WiFi was hit and miss, but that just comes with being on Lombok so we weren't really fussed about that. The resort pools did have a fabulous view for sunset, we didn't swim in them as we had our own pool in our villa but we did enjoy some sunsets at the beach edge there. Overall, we would never go back or recommend Qunci to our friends or family. I've rated it 3 out of 5 as I really did not enjoy our time there but my husband didn't mind it, and we both agree it's just not a place for us and found it average as opposed to terrible or fantastic. It seemed to be a resort for older people, who enjoy strange food. I do wish we had booked elsewhere. We were not expecting luxury but we were expecting better than what we experienced. I do wish Qunci all the best though, I think they should relax a bit, simplify things a bit and update some furniture, decor and the menu and they'd be great. It just really was not the place for us. First time to Lombok. We arranged pick up with Qunci - we knew it would be more expensive but we were unsure how we would go flying in late on the Air Asia direct flight (ghastly food, used to be great) from Perth. The answer to that one is there are loads of drivers all wanting to take you. Our driver was waiting for us, pleasant enough but provided no water for the hour journey to Qunci. Also he had no idea where the toilets were in the airport (we never did find them). Customs and Immigration quick, airport itself a bit scungy. Check in at Qunci efficient and quick, and we had help with our luggage (we have found this is not always the case in Bali recently). Our villa, spacious, clean, gorgeous. Very large private pool set in well attended to greenery. Everything worked and was in good repair. Breakfast, you choose two items from the extensive menu. Huge servings of exquisite food. We also have had the 3 course lunch and dinner as per Luxury Escapes package. Using packages quite often, we have become used to a different menu being offered to package deal clients. Not so here, exactly the same for all meals, and a fine dining experience food-wise - even if us, the clientele were dressed in standard pool/holiday attire. We used the three public pools at various times - all a great size and overlooking the beach (not a great swimming beach but good to look at). Lots of loungers, attentive pool side service. Massage provided as per LE package - wonderful. In the past when buying a package deal, we have been given vouchers to take around with us for the deals offered in the hotel. You don't have to bother remembering your voucher here. You just tell them and I guess they mark it off their list. All staff at Qunci professional, friendly and good at their jobs. No standing around talking pretending you are not there. Senggigi itself, not exciting. Shops tired, nothing really to entice you back after your first trip ($2AUD a car each way). Yes, there are beach hawkers, but not on hotel grounds. They are very low key compared to Sanur, where we go often. If you get talking to the hawkers, some of them speak excellent English and are happy to tell you about their way of life and their hopes for Lombok, now direct flights are here. We used up our baggage allowance by packing in clothes we no longer wanted, and gave these to various beach sellers for their families. Please do this, these are poor people (especially in the slow season), and they appreciate it. As the title says, 3 days into this stay, we have just bought another 5 night package for next year. Tomorrow we are off around Lombok (650K driver for the day), next day to the Gilli's, then home. It is rare for me to write a review before our stay has ended, but it has also been some time since we have stayed anywhere that comes even close to this. Read less

The location was amazing with a beautiful pool area. The rooms were very clean with a super nice shower. The breakfast could be ordered to the room for free. Amazing! Very friendly and helpful staff. It's possible to rent a scooter there.
