Shangri-La, Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The hotel

A worthy member of the upscale Shangri-La family, this luxury Malaysian hotel embodies the group’s legendary qualities: decadent styling, exquisite dining, a catalogue of glamourous rooms and suites, and an elite and desirable setting. Taking references from the lush urban parks of Kuala Lumpur, the hotel’s pool is bordered by greenery, its gym’s running machines look out onto leafy landscaping, and the lobby lounge features a window wall with indescribably stunning views into the tropical gardens. It’s not forgotten its city centre location though, with ritzy restaurants, bars, and lounges fitting for its spot in Malaysia’s main metropolis. Just a 5-minute walk from the Petronas Twin Towers, this sanctuary is primed for guests drawn to KL for the shopping districts, culture, or simply the parks.

I stayed at the Shangri-La KL at the end of June 2019, for a couple of nights on a business trip. It was really just one night as I checked in around 3am for the first night. The hotel was nicely located at the centre of KL, within walking distance to the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Tower. I stayed in executive rooms facing the City for the first night and then another room facing the KL tower for the second. The views in both rooms were not superb as the Hotel is surrounded by CBD buildings and the rooms were decently sized, but dated. All the welcome amenities, breakfast and even executive lounge access was provided to me (I think because the breakfast area was full the first morning) and loyalty recognition as Jade member was nice. The lounge offered a quieter space and the option to order nice breakfast dishes, whereas the breakfast at the restaurant next to the lobby had a larger variety of food to choose from. The outdoor pool area was also very comfortable, having a drink with my colleague, and sheltered away from the very humid and hot KL weather. It was my first visit to KL and I recommend this very good hotel for business travellers like me. SC Read less

The Beyond Meat Burger was so good that we ordered them for lunch and dinner. 4. Check-out was good. The lady on duty was empathetic, and courteous. She calmly listened to our comments on our stay experience, and offered an apology. 5. Gym was FAB! 6. The room, although feels old and looks old, but was very clean. The Bad. 1. Check-in was 'interesting'. The lady was clearly speaking in Bahasa and referred to my fiancé as "Dia" when she spoke to her colleague about our stay entitlements, instead of using her name or the word "guest". For this brand, it was quite surprising. It is worth mentioning that we were the only ones checking in at the time, as the place was empty. 2. Breakfast entitlement was not clearly explained. This resulted in us having to call the operator and In room dining on 2 separate occasions, asking about the same thing, and were given two diferent explanations. The lady who delivered our breakfast the next morning informed us that the hotel will need to charge us for the a la carte order, and we explained that the gentleman from in room dining told us the night before in a phone call that a la carte was included in our breakfast entitlement. She then told us not to worry about it and she will verify it with her manager. We heard nothing back from her until check out. (The charges were removed from our bill in the end). 3. There was a box of complimentary mini chocolate cake in our room for our anniversary, which was deeply appreciated, but no cutleries were provided. 4. We ordered room service for dinner, and the dinner rolls were as hard as rocks. This is not an exaggeration. And since we had burgers for dinner, we didn't really need the rolls, so we didn't make a fuss about it. All in all, it was a good stay. I understand that we paid a lot less for the room this time around compared to their normal rate, but still, we expected more from the brand. Read less

We chose the Shangri-La because of its excellent location. It was an easy walk to many sites such as Petronas Towers, the Menara KL tower, and also to many good restaurants. There is a shuttle service provided to a couple of locations but drop off only, no pick up. The pool area is beautifully serene and a perfect place to cool down and relax after a hot day of sightseeing. There is an adult’s only area of the pool deck. Although there were not many people around the pool when we were there, an adult’s only area could be nice on busier days. The rooms and bathrooms were good size and the bed was very comfortable. It would be nice to have a bit more counter space in the bathroom. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff , thoughtfully, had left a birthday cake and roses for us. All of the staff we encountered were very helpful, pleasant, and prompt. We were leaving ridiculously early in the morning and a pastry tray was in the lobby for us to have as a light breakfast on our ride to the airport . It is the extra touches that mean a lot while traveling and the Shangri- La provided those. Read less

I been there for a short rest before having an interview. When my father and I first came in, the staffs were very friendly and asked us do we need any helps. Although we just taking a rest at the rest area, they also take a good care of us. A luxury and nice view hotel.
