A friend recommended this hotel. Knowing that we are demanding but equate quality to $$$ charged he took no risk. Some reviews say the property is tired - disagree. A friend recommended this hotel. Knowing that we are demanding but equate quality to $$$ charged he took no risk. Some reviews say the property is tired - disagree. It is not new but very well maintained. Hotels need not renovate every 4 or 5 years - but if they do, expect to pay for that privilege. Double the Meritus rates. Bottom line, nothing wrong with the room or common areas. Staff were very friendly and we were always greeted with a smile.. Good Morning , afternoon, evening... The hotel is well located and if you want to eat out there are many alternate choices. But the hotel restaurant Spice Market and CBA are really good choices. Special thanks to Kirin Pancha and Praba (Front Office Manager) for making our stay special. We enjoyed the early morning nature walk - but if you participate recommend long sleeve shirts and long trousers to minimise mosquito bites! Despite - highly recommended. Read less

A very beautiful beach resort with 2 excellent restaurants - Spice Market and CBA. Spa was also fantastic. We stayed at the beachfront room for 4 nights. Staff was friendly including the chefs, front desk, baggy drivers and all. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

This hotel is well situated on a white sand beach ,with walking distance to the next resort with plenty of bars, restaurants and entertainment. It is a fairly large complex with 51 wooden blocks of 12 rooms, but saying that it is well layed out and easy to walk round, the gardens are well maintained with lots of mixed trees including mangos and coconut, BUT there are lots of mosquitoes this time of year. There are lake view rooms with a nice look out from their balcony, there are beachfront rooms with an excellent sun set views, but they come with a cost! And without letting you know or advertising there is NO USE of the beach!.due to large sandbags to save the beach from tide corrosion. Why only 4 stars is because it's starting to show it's age, slightly, The room (801) is large with patio and windows a/c fan,tea/ coffee, free safe, tv, the large bathroom as a good shower, iron, hairdryer and plenty of storage, the rooms are a little dark but there are 4 lamps to use. The 2 pools are quite large and clean and also has a children's play pool. And another good point is there is NO loud music around the pools so you can relax, each pair of slightly warn sunnbeds have their own service bell so you can relax and enjoy your food and cocktails without leaving your beds!. The 2 restaurants spice market is what is says on the can! Very nice a/c inside or sit outside, I found the food was very repetitive every evening, the CBA beach fronted restaurant were we had a good choice of breakfast and a excellent evening choice, a big thank you to all the hotel staff from Gardner's to front staff I found were all friendly and helpful especially IRENE AND ZAC in the Cba,saying that all the staff are helpful. In my opinion I think the CBA cater more for the westerners, In the whole complex western or eastern it doesn't matter you are all treated with a smile. The weather in June is very humid and hot, we've been lucky there was a thunderstorm when we arrived and one on our last day of 10 day stay. Sorry for a long review but I'm trying to be honest, my wife and I are in our 60s ànd we found a good age range of holiday makers, After 3 full hot, busy days in Singapore we were glad to relax. I would definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed on a half board basis and found the ala cart meals were great Sunset views are amazing. Read less

Having visited on a work trip and stayed one night a few weeks ago, I return to the Meritus Pelangi on personal leisure because I was impressed with everything about it. Its very suitable for guests going as couples or those with children and is well equipped with activities, especially with 2 different pools onsite (1 children's pool with slide) or if that's not enough, then the beach. First off, reviews saying the property is dated and needs renovation are wrong. The wooden chalets are designed in traditional Malaysian style and just because the property is not built how westerners perceive a hotel should be, doesn't make it old and outdated. The location of the property is situated relatively close to the airport and also at the end of Cenang with its own beachfront area. Being at the end of Cenang, guests staying on the property don't have the problem of lots of randoms wandering in front of the beach, but guests can walk down the beach to get to the main Cenang area. I've stayed in both beachfront (1st visit) and lake view room, although both in-room amenities were exactly the same; the only difference was the view from the balcony. I prefered the beachfront view purely because I was on the ground floor and was easy access to the beach and Cenang since it was to the left of the property. The lake view room I had on my second visit was to the right of the grounds and the walk to Cenang was further. The rooms are laid with carpets to try minimise the noise levels for those staying on the ground rooms. The beds were comfortable and clean and both rooms came with a couch, although I have seen some rooms with only 2 lounge chairs in the room. Bathroom amenities are as you'd expect and replenished daily, with the hairdryer kept in the drawer under the safe. I found the housekeeping were a bit inconsistent as some days we got the full set of towels and some other days, they would forget to give the smaller towels and floor towel. Also we ordered room service one night and they got our pizza wrong twice, they may have been busy so will give them the benefit of the doubt since they allowed us to keep the incorrect order although we couldn't eat that much amount of food. The breakfast buffet was good as well, guests have access to the Spice Market for a mix of Asian choices and a limited amount of continental options like sausages, eggs and hashbrowns. But this is more for those wanting an Asian breakfast experience. They serve up a mix of congee, noodles, rice, curries and noodles. Cba serves up continental breakfast and the notable difference is it offers a champagne breakfast for those wanting a light drink. Overall I was impressed with the property and for those that are visiting Langkawi then this property should be considered purely for the location and quality you'll be getting. Cenang is the main area to visit for the beach and is only 20 minutes from Kuah to visit Eagle Square or 25 minutes to the cable car, all reasonably cheap to get to using Grab. Read less
