I did a lot of research before booking this hotel and read a lot of positive reviews and I was extremely hopeful of a magical stay at The Danna, sadly this was not our experience. On the plus side the hotel is an elegant old lady basking in the beauty of the Andaman Sea. The downstairs common areas of the hotel are impressive and clean. However, the landings are grubby and on several occasions clumps of dust and hair could be seen tumbling along them. The check in was efficient and welcoming. The rooms are clean but tired and in need of a update. The wardrobe does not accommodate long dresses, with no where else to hang them it had to be the hook in the bathroom, not ideal. The shower is excellent. The pool area looks impressive at first glance but on close inspection, is tired with several tiles missing or replaced with miss matched tiles. Several of the water jets were not working. The gardens are well kept and afforded some shade around the pool. The local cultural evening was excellent with good food and entertainment. It is a shame more events like this are not offered. Our experience of the food and service is what let the hotel down: We were given other people’s breakfast orders on at least five occasions, with our breakfast orders being offered to other guests on at least two occasions. We were left standing beside a table for approx 5 minutes while it was cleaned and reset. The breakfast buffet is limited with there being a heavy slant towards Asian and Indian dishes, given that the majority of the guests during our stay we’re British, European, or Australian we thought this strange. The choice of fruit was very limited as was the cheese. The layout of Planters for breakfast is not ideal as everything is in a corner making it congested and difficult to access with several tables beside the food, toaster etc. We ate twice at Terrace whilst the anti pasta sharing plate was delicious the pumpkin ravioli with sage butter had chilli in it, why? The pasta was thick and tough, I persevered with it but gave up leaving two of the seven ravioli, we were not asked by staff if we enjoyed our meal. The lobster linguini had so much pepper on it that after a mouthful each (my husband who is a chef) tried it also, was sent back. An alternative was offered but as my husband already had his meal it was pointless ordering anything else, a refund was offered however, when the bill arrived the price of the dish had not been taken off and had to be sent back for the adjustment to be made. We drank in the Verandah most evenings of our stay, on one occasion waiting 25 minutes for two gin and tonics, the person delivering the drinks made no apologies however, apologies were made by another member of staff and then the manager as this event came after a day of bad service and errors we decided the best course of action was to take ourselves out of the hotel for the evening. The very next evening the same thing happened to another couple, not good considering there were only six other couples in the bar at the time. We were told transport to the sky cabs were included in our booking and were left red faced as the driver demanded payment and thought we were trying to avoid paying. Our room card stopped working two days prior to our departure. The food in Planters was better having Indian food on both occasions it was tasty and well cooked. Some of the chairs are too low and difficult to sit on to eat dinner, the dining chairs are the best ones to have. The table beside us ordered the crepes for dessert, this whole production took over forty minutes and the trolley to make them was parked right beside our table with the smell of burning butter wafting over us, not ideal. Although we received several apologies and gifts from the hotel for the bad service and errors this does not change the fact that they have happened and taken the shine of what we were hoping would be an excellent experience. You only get one chance to make a first impression and for us sadly The Danna failed to make the right one, we love Langkawi but next time will spend our hard earned money elsewhere. Read less

I left the Danna after a week there about a month ago, and I am honestly still blown away by how amazing it was. We ended up staying there after our original hotel experienced some flooding, and we could have not asked for a better replacement! Upon arrival, we were greeted by a member of staff (cannot remember his name) but he was very helpful with check in and often saw him walking around in the hotel, always saying hello and asking how I was. The rooms were beautiful, the amenities were outstanding, and honestly nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. I would especially like to thank Bassel, Hitesh, Amirul, Rural, and Danise. Our wonderful Christmas trip would not have been as great without their immaculate service. Further, what a wonderful touch it was to have carol singers throughout breakfast on Christmas Day, entertainment on several of the nights and a pianist playing in the main restaurant. I would again like to emphasise that the staff is what made this holiday great and I would like to send my appreciation to each and every one of them. Read less

We couldn’t fault the hotel at all, the pools and grounds were all lovely too. Things nearby you absolutely must do include the cable car to the sky bridge and there is a night market at a different location every evening on the island which I would also thoroughly recommend. You will also see that there is an island directly in front of the hotel called Paradise 101 and although it was closed for an inspection on the day we went we were taken over free of charge by the people at the stand adjacent to the Danna and had a lovely lunch in an amazing location. This island is entirely separate and independent of the hotel but you can speak to the people who run the stand adjacent to the hotel. Read less
