Langkawi, Malaysia

The hotel

In a magical setting on Langkawi Island, you will feel your senses come alive at the Westin. The aromatic scent of white tea candles fills the air with guest rooms and villas featuring serene modern décor and that all important signature Heavenly Bed®! The Heavenly Spa™ is also … well, a slice of heaven, beautifully situated on the beachfront and offering a full and tempting range of beauty treatments guaranteed to chase those cares away. There’s not one but four tantalising swimming pools to choose from, including the ocean rock pool surrounded by lush tropical foliage, the infinity pool blurring the boundaries between the azure water and the deep blue sky and the spa pool. Down at the beach, there are water sports in abundance and for keep-fit fans, the WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio is perhaps the best on the island. Other sports pursuits include tennis and squash, or simply grab a cocktail from the bar and top up that tan! Dining at the Westin is another happy learning curve combining Malaysian hospitality, Asian Pacific cuisine and international favourites. Seasonal Tastes is definitely a place to see and be seen, feasting on gourmet delights al fresco or in a private crystal cove booth whilst Tide serves gourmet pizzas and succulent seafood on Parisian platters with majestic views over the Andaman Sea.

My wife and I were very much looking forward to staying here having heard of the fantastic facilities and private beach, however were heavily let down with the hygiene of the very basic rooms(3 star standard) and general service. We stayed in the partial ocean view room. The view was very nice from the balcony but we quickly learned that the room had not been cleaned properly, especially in the toilet area where there were stains of urine found on the floor from previous guests which really smelt bad. We also found pubic hair on the bed. The tv boasts an advert where cleaning standards have improved during the pandemic but we saw no evidence of this in reality. Overall, the rooms are rather basic for the amount of money you have to spend. The hallways leading to the rooms feel they were designed in the 1970s. They are dark, narrow and have the smell of other guest’s food room service. You are also forced to push open several doors to get through these hallways which during current times feels unhygienic. Breakfast was very average for the amount of money spent which is in addition to the room charges. Bread items were stale. Service was poor. Lots of staff standing around looking out the windows being unattentive or taking away plates without replacing the cutlery so we constantly needed to ask for more sets if we wanted anything else. On the plus side, the beach is amazing and the swimming pools are great. However perhaps the problem is that people will come here anyway so the service has diminished over time. 5 star location, 2 star service, hygiene and experience. There are better hotels on the island. Read less

Truly a Five Star experience. The rooms are amazing with all the modern amenities. The Sea View, the Heated Pool, the massiveness and beauty of the property are all worth thr money you spend. You can really feel the warmth when they serve you. Room service and Spa are pretty expensive. The drive to the City center is about 45 mins. Read less

I think Westin could improve by providing extra sanitization wipes in the rooms and providing them in areas of public use such as the desks in the "business center" to keep it clean and, try to arrange for a proper business center where it's quiet and clean. My friend and I checked in for only 3 nights and firstly found in our room that the bath plug has broken, this was fixed when reported, but i was surprised to see the low quality maintenance in the rooms of a 5* hotel. My friend and I checked in for only 3 nights and firstly found in our room that the bath plug has broken, this was fixed when reported, but i was surprised to see the low quality maintenance in the rooms of a 5* hotel. Then, on seven separate occasions, our key cards failed to work to get us into our rooms or the gym, each time someone brought us a new card or gave us access but it was ridiculous that it kept happening and that we had to keep waiting in corridors or go back to reception on what was supposed to be our holiday. It is also really unfortunate that the beautiful pool view of the islands has been blocked off since 29th December by the ugly tents which are presumably for NYE and should not have been put up so early, other guests have remarked about this too. On the plus side the room is clean and comfortable and the pool bar and staff who run it are great. Overall though I can only say how disappointed I have been with the quality of this stay as it is supposed to be a 5* hotel but this has not been a 5* experience. Read less

I booked 4 rooms for 3 nights and the service is atrocious. The rooms were not ready even after 3pm and 1 of the room was only ready after 4pm. Breakfast service is abysmal. Waited for 15 minutes just for coffee. Very poor
