Before children came along, Mr. & Mrs. Cousin stayed in this hotel around 7 years ago. It must have been good as when we decided another trip to Penang was due, this time with 2 further little Cousins, we decided to stay again. The hotel gets 3 stars because the junior cousins loved the pools and the friendly Filipino band who play in the lounge in the evening. The Italian restaurant is not bad also (except Mr. Cousin ordering a margarita pizza with extra onions - which they served raw! It had novelty value I guess!) Staff quality varies greatly. Some are very genuine and friendly and others are miserable! Not a good reflection on the training. Breakfast terrible. Disgusting food, even worse coffee and queuing to get in - ridiculous!! But the worst is the room. Looks fine until you look under the beds and see the mountains of dust that have accumulated over the years. No excuse for poor hygiene. This hotel is no way where near 5 star and it’s a pity it’s standards have dropped so badly? Read less

Just returned after 11 days at Parkroyal on the whole we enjoyed our stay.Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the state of quality of the sea. This is the first time in 60 years on going on holiday we did not swim in the sea. There are various reasons 1st The clarity of the water was was so bad you could only see a depth of one foot at best. 2 There were a lot of jellyfish with signs warning people.very few people elected to swim . 3 There are lot of jet skis in operation sometimes over 10 and they are constant from in the morning right through the day, also para gliding, banana ride and day trips So there is the smell of petrol. 4 THIS the worst 2 thirds along the beach there is a stream discharge into the sea and the smell and colour was off putting .While there they had a h Mac machine one day and blocked the inlet so damming the stream. One day later the water had come to the top of the dam on the stream side this I noticed when walking up to the beach in front of the Shangri-La unfortunately when I returned the machine had opened the dam and the resulting effect on was a length of over 100 yards and 50 yards wide the sea water turned black. This is unacceptable for what is supposed to be the main tourist beach in Penang.Surely it is up to the hotels along the beach to put pressure on to sort this problem,we are not talking of small hotels when you have the likes of Shangri-La and Pan Pacific Chains. The beach itself is very good but the quality of seawater would put us off returning to Penang. As to the Parkroyal the room was good(premier sea view) the food at the beach bar good and well priced and romantic in the evening,Gustavo was good.Cinnamon restaurant gets very busy at breakfast especially when the hotel are running seminars The drinks at Javana lounge were very reasonable and we had very good service from Suara and the area was tastefully done .Also a mention on check in which was efficient thanks to Sayed from Bali an excellent ambassador who whenever we passed through the lobby always made a point of enquiring how we were enjoying our stay The staff were all very polite well done . The gardens are beautiful and we always managed to have sun loungers. One point to finish is the amount of young children swimming in the adult pool late into the evening sometimes 9 -10 pm at night most these children were unsupervised by their parents and I think it will only be time until an accident happens I hope not and hope the management takes steps to monitor this situation. All in all we had a restful holiday with glorious weather but I do not think we will be returning to Batu Ferringhi. Read less

The problems start as it goes to service...in order to get yourself a breakfast you need to wait in a looong line for almost 20min. And after you do so - you are in a room so small and crowded that it can barely accommodate ale The people fighting for food and shoving one another.. Now - would you like to get a sunbed around The pool? Forget it unless you want to git up at 7 and "book" one as many People do. Very Many of them would never use their pre-booked beds but who cares... Wanna go to The gym? No problem, There is one. However - you need to be prepared for rude and impolite attendant why speaks So much English like me chinese... And this is just The beginning... Will see what comes up next...and will keep everyone updated. Read less
