Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa

Penang, Malaysia

The hotel

Rasa Sayang takes its name from an old Malay folk song that means ‘a feeling of love’ – exactly what you’ll experience when you arrive here! A beautiful resort, it also enjoys a luxurious setting in 30-acres of lush gardens, framed by majestic ancient rain trees. Some of the world’s most recognisable names have holidayed here, including celebrity author Barbara Cartland and the former King of Cambodia. A definite attraction is CHI, The Spa, the largest and most luxuriously appointed in Penang. There’s also award-winning cuisine served at the Ferringi Grill, which boasts a wine cellar and cigar menu, or indulge in buffet delights at the Spice Market Café.

Our family 3AD & 2CHD stayed at this amazing resort for 5 nights. We booked the Rasa Wing Premier and Superior Rooms which was inter connecting. Both rooms were clean, tidy and spacious. The Premier room is massive! It has a large lounge space and an outside bath tub big enough for the whole family! The hotel vibe is calm, quiet and relaxing. All the staff (cleaners, porters, food service etc) are always friendly and greet you where ever you go. They are very attentive to your ever need. Booking a Rasa Wing room comes with extra benefits, which we highly recommend. Our morning breakfast exclusively at the Ferringi Bar & Grill Restaurant is our preferred option for breakfast because it's quiet and intimate. You have the option for buffet breakfast at The Spice Market Cafe as well. The food and staff at both restaurants are all very good. We've eaten at both for breakfast and dinner. Complimentary High Tea at 3pm or Canepe/Cocktail hour at 5.30pm at the Rasa Wing lounge is a welcoming and wonderful treat. Note: Casual smart attire for cocktail hour. It is well worth the extra special experience to book Rasa Wing rooms. Our family had an amazing experience and hope to return again in the near future! Many thanks. - The Cherry Family Read less

We chose this resort, as we like Shangri-La Hotels, we were not disappointed. It is certainly the best Hotel in Batu Ferringhi. We stayed in the Garden wing, Very clean airy rooms, lovely view over the gardens with a glimpse of the sea through the trees. Very spacious Lobby and breakfast restaurant, great choice of breakfast food on offer, from currie's and, noodles to a fantastic egg selection, all cooked to your choice, still not hooked on Beef bacon !! Nice pool, and plenty of sun beds scattered around the garden. Plenty of snacks on offer from the outside bar. Nice clean beach with netted swim area, lots of water sports available from the locals, Barter your price when they walk away that's as low as they will go. There are a few local restaurants, pick and choose? most are outside so don't' go to the ones near the dreaded Durian fruit sellers, It is a horrid putrid smell, puts me off my food but you may like it: I don't think so. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle bus to and from George town, and all places in between, such as Gurney Plazza, and the Queys. Overall very good. Read less

This hotel is great, best one we have stayed in for a while. The bedrooms are lovely, with great views over the immaculate gardens. They really look after them, they are more like a botanic garden. Pool is large, with lots of places where you can chill out in the sun or in the shade. Loved being able to walk out onto the beach. Bar staff were good… Read more

My family of 3 just visited for the second time at the Rasa Wing and this resort has cemented itself as one of my and my son’s favourites in the world. Last year we experienced some service issues but this time round service was tip top. The resort has been around for decades as the grand dame of Batu Ferringhi so don’t expect a new fangled feel. Rather it is old fashioned gentility – fine wooden furniture, marble counter tops in the bathroom. Some nods to modernity appear in the nespresso machine and Grohe rain showers. What, for me makes the difference are the following: - Immaculately maintained grounds and access to the beachfront - a Rasa Wing pool with nice warm water (unlike the icy cold infinity roof top pools that most hotels seem to have these days), which is not too crowded - small touches like complimentary soft drinks at the pool and in the minibar - good service from enthusiastic staff – my compliments to Muru at the pool who remembered my drink just after 1 order the day before! - Tea at 3 and canapes at 5 at the lounge - Breakfast at Ferringhi grill – that view! And again, great service. If you like nasi lemak, order it here, one of the best I have ever had Even though we just did a weekend, I feel thoroughly relaxed as I type this on a Monday morning. We will be back again. Read less

Being a Jade member of Shangri-La’s golden circle scheme through my AmEx platinum gave a few extra treats in the room. The buffet breakfast was great and the pool was very relaxing. Little things like the lights being labelled was very nice. Room service whether it was 3am or 3pm food quality was outstanding. Read less
