The facilities are also up to expected standard and friendly staff. All rooms have a river view. It is true they don't have balconies, but I don't think many hotels on the river do. Not an issue for us anyway. There is regular hotel boat and other ferry service taking you to the grandest shopping mall I have ever seen and to the nearest Sky Train Station (Taksin). They usually will give you water and a cold towel when you return during the day--very welcome indeed. There is not much worth seeing within walking distance of the hotel other than more shops. Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a vacation to Thailand in order to 'see' Bangkok. The Royal Orchid has simply the best location being directly on the river and with 50m of the Express boat river taxis and other trips, and even has it's own free shuttle boat across to the IconSiam Mall. The hotel is great, rooms fine - ours was on the 22nd floor and had a river view (recommended), I don't think any have balconies which would have been nice, but they do have floor to ceiling windows so great views. The room had everything you wanted and would expect from a hotel of this standard, wifi worked perfectly. Restaurants wise, we only used 'The Feast' restaurant`, which was fine and I guess average 'city' hotel prices - only thing I noted was arriving at 2pm our room wasn't ready until 3 so we sat and had a coffee in the ground floor bar. I thought this expensive at over £10 GBP for 2 small coffees, but generally things seemed resonable. Note the main buffet and riverside grll restaurants look nice but aren't cheap, expect £40 + for a meal The concierege team are fantastic, spoke perfect English and had all the information and tips you could want - they told us quickly how to use the river taxis (and recommend the Express Boats with the orange flag on them), and these are only 15 baht each so very cheap indeed - and from the dock you can get to the Grand Palace and Temple of the Dawn, Flower Market, China Town and most of the main tourist sites. It is also worth mentioning that if you are a tourist you must go over to the Iconsiam mall - even the river crossing is fun, and the Mall is fantastic. I am not at all interested in shopping, but visually it is stunning inside and out - the free fountains light show in front is just brilliant, go when it's dark (the 8 pm show) and sit on the floor and enjoy, it really is worth seeing - and 100% free too! Inside the mall there are dozens of restaurants, many on the 5th floor both posh and more budget, and in the lower ground floor there is everything, it's like a little market down there even with street food type sellers. We ate in here for 2 of our 3 nights and definitely recommend it (oh, and if you do like shopping they have the lot here, from Gucci to budget). Our first impressions of Bangkok were it's just another big, untidy and overly busy city, but after exploring around mostly up and down the river we changed out opinions and were very glad we came. Thanks to the Royal Orchid for our stay, recommended Read less

We spent two nights here at the end of April and three nights mid May. On 18th floor with wonderful views of the river, with all its activity, and of the city. Free shuttle service across the river to the enormous ICONSIAM shopping and eating building and to the nearest sky train stop. The hotel is immaculate, extremely comfortable and the staff could not be more helpful. After hot and busy sightseeing days (many sights very accessible by ferry along the river) we relaxed by one of the two hotel pools - bliss! The concierge (we spoke to different people) were on the ball and very very helpful - as we're all the staff. Breakfast buffet was gorgeous. For the evening buffet you need to go early - stocks were a bit depleted when we arrived at 8.30 on our first evening. It is open from 6.00 to 10.00. They were very apologetic and discounted the price. Apart from that slight disappointment I would very highly recommend this hotel. We would definitely stay there again if we return to Bangkok.
