The 20 min journey from the airport does nothing to prepare you for the stunning peace and tranquility of the Anantara. The bustle of the Chiang Mai streets fade into oblivion as soon as you entered the open reception. We were whisked straight to our garden view room on the 3rd floor where we were checked in and provide with a complimentary foot soak and bottle of wine. The rooms are well appointed with great balconies and day bed but it’s the pool and gardens that are the real highlight. The stunning 30m pool is great for exercise and relaxation and is wrapped by a koi fish pool filled with enormous fish, merely watching instils you with a sense of tranquility. The ample buffet and cooked breakfast can easily sustain you all day. Ask for a riverside table and watch the daily cruises along the Ping River. The staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you, always friendly and smiling. The hotel is well located, a 5 minute walk to the night market and 15 minutes walk to the old town and great form trips to local attractions. Both restaurants are fantastic, we loved the 1921 with its James Bond themed decor and colonially dressed staff and the bar creates amazing cocktails. This is definitely one of our favourite hotels. Excellent hotel set in beautiful, well maintained quality gardens and facilities. A multitude of staff at every location watchful, ready and willing to provide assistance. Beautiful swimming pool with small shallow area for children. Extremely well maintained gym with a wide range of apparatus. No table tennis though. Wonderful variety of food in a beautiful restaurant with a choice of eating inside or out. Our only criticism is the exorbitant cost of bottled water in the dining room whilst being free in the rooms. We would definitely recommend this hotel. Read less

Other than the mosquitoes that were ever present, this is a lovely place from which to explore the city. The courteous, and helpful staff makes organising activities easy and enjoyable. The pool is lovely and the gym is adequate although a little dark. The room could do with a bit more light and more lamps made available.
