Outstanding service and amenities. We were pampered. We are not high end travelers, but this was very high end. They could not do enough for us, including our laundry and concierge service with gourmet drinks and snacks. We didn't need dinner.

I had a wonderful trip to Chiang Mai at the Anantara Hotel. The hotel is modern, minimalist, and has excellent service. I had a wonderful trip to Chiang Mai at the Anantara Hotel. The hotel is modern, minimalist, and has excellent service. To be honest, I would give it 4.5 stars but TripAdvsior doesn't give the option. Knowing how votes impact hotels, I figured I'd round up. We stayed in a Kasaya (sp?) Suite, which is very roomy, spacious, and well provisioned. It accomodated my family very well. They refreshed the room with some excellent fresh fruit and delicious treats every day, compliments of the hotel. The rooms overlooked a quiet courtyard with a Zen quality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel - it is lovely. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the service of the staff was also very good. The location is very good for access to the night market. So why not a perfect review? My only issues are that the hotel doesn't seem to really have the soul of Thailand in it. It has such minimalist zen design that the hotel could be anywhere in the world - it felt like it would be at home in Tokyo. The restaurant building that does have real Thai flair was decorated upstairs in a British Consulate and spy theme. While it is a fun idea and well done, it creates a false throwback of British colonialism (Thailand was never a colony). I would have been much more interested in the real history of the former British Consulate building and Chiang Mai with more authentic artifacts. While I'm very happy to recommend this hotel overall for a very pleasant stay, it doesn't exude some of the qualities that make Thailand special. Instead, it feels like a bit of a manufactured ambience. The hotel was setting up for their New Year celebration on my last day there, which was a bit of a distraction around the pool - but it seemed appropriate for a hotel to do - so no big deal. If I had stayed through New Year, they appeared to require guests to pay for their New Year celebration - which would not have been ideal for my family. My only other recommendation is for the hotel to replace the traditional room keys with electronic ones. I can't remember the last time I went through the process of dropping keys at the desk each time I left the hotel. I'd recommend updating the locks and also adding express check-out. That said, thanks to the Anantara and its staff for an excellent and hospitable stay! Read less

Anantara is widely known chain. I've stayed at several Anantara's and I found this one to have a unique charm. It had a lovely ambiance and an open concept design. Fantastic spa, great service, and wonderful staff!
