We have just returned from a wonderful week at The Slate. We were luck enough to be staying in one of the Family Villas which meant we had a wonderful butler helping us out throughout our stay. Nim was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. We were a family of 5- 2 adults and 3 kids. It was a wonderful family environment. The staff were so friendly and welcoming in all locations we came across them. Food Breakfast at Tin Mine restaurant was a delight, with a huge variety of options. Nothing ever ran out for long, no long queues and delicious food. We also ate at The Underground cafe for lunch and had snacks and drinks at the Tongkah mine Sports bar. We had one meal at Black Ginger which was amazing- they catered for even the youngest member of our family with no problems! Facilities We used the kids club a few times. Our son enjoyed Pizza making, Crab hunting and sand castle building. There were so many activities to choose from on a daily basis. We used the gym and also had a boxing lesson which was a lot of fun. We made use of the water sports facilities, using the paddles boards a few times. The beach itself is a very short walk from the hotel and is beautiful. The only time it seemed super busy was the weekend of Thai new year. Other than that, there were plenty of loungers and places to eat. There were some stunning sunsets to see! The hotel was an absolute delight to stay in. They ran shuttle buses and services to other locations and also helped organise excursions if needed. We took a taxi to Phuket Old Town Night market which we really enjoyed walking around and sampling the various street foods on offer. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and hope we get to visit again soon! Read less

I don’t understand the hype over this resort. Have just returned from a two nights stay based on the great reviews. True it has amazing swimming pools and the staff are excellent but that’s where the five star quality ended for me. I found the dark rooms sparse and depressing, accessed along concrete blocks. The whole resort feels huge and impersonal. Breakfasts are tasty but the restaurant feels like a massive canteen. If you are looking for somewhere authentically Thai then I would look somewhere else. We just finished a week stay here in a “Pearl Suite” This hotel blew us away! We were in Thailand for 17 nights. My only regret was that we didn’t stay here a few more nights, which we spent over in Krabi at another nice resort. But not as nice as this! Everything was outstanding from the grounds, the room, the bed, the price, the service and the location. A top-notch five star resort! The room had a large soaking tub, two patios, a huge walk-in shower, and a huge walk-in closet. This hotel is located about 15 to 20 miles north of the craziness of Patong, and only about 4Km or about 2 mi. from the HKT Airport. It ‘s in a much quieter area than Patong and adjacent to the beach directly out the back gate. The street following the beach behind the hotel is quiet and relatively short with numerous eateries, bars, shops and street food. For those seeking nightlife, you might prefer Patong because things pretty much slows down for the night by 10 PM along the beach and there’s not a lot of nightlife here. We purposely chose to stay here to avoid the craziness of Patong. Very relaxed and quiet here. Beautiful grounds. There are three different pools. The general pool is huge. There is also an adult only pool if you don’t like being around little brats. We don’t have kids, don’t want kids.and really don’t even like kids or even being around them! We didn’t dine at any of the restaurants , bar or use the spa, but they all looked posh! They’ll wash six pieces of clothing per day for you for free. There’s also a self serve laundromat just out the front gate. Hotel website said that they provided complimentary airport transportation, but when we asked about getting a ride to the airport the day we checked out, they called us a taxi and we paid a minimal price to ride a couple of miles over. It was only about a five minute ride. No big deal, though. And being very close to the airport, jet noise was basically nonexistent as the planes departing and landing were about 2 miles north up the beach and don’t directly overfly the hotel, but take off and landing out over the ocean. It was an absolutely outstanding stay! The week went by way too fast! I could’ve stayed here a month! Best part was it was only $220 USD per night. No resort fee. The last five years we’ve gone on vacation to Hawaii, Las Vegas and different Caribbean destinations and paid almost twice that amount per night for the same quality room! It was worth the 18 hour one-way flight just to get here for that savings. My only very minimal complaint was there was no USB ports in the room to plug-in and charge your devices. We also had this problem at the other three hotels we stayed at in Thailand. Sure, there are outlets in the room, but since we have American plugs on our electronics,we have to use an adapter, and we only had one adapter. We might very well return next year? Perhaps we’ll try one of their villas the next stay? Five Stars all the way! A hidden gem! Read less

Very unique hotel designed by Bill Bensley reflecting the local heritage of tin mining, with a collection of sculptures around the property and its very own mini art gallery. Accommodation, Food, Staff and Service were excellent. Close to beach with some lovely local restaurants specialising in fish.
