Warmly welcomed for our fourth visit by Danny. Swim out room is our preferred choice, looked after by Nee & Tuen. The Waterfront:,So good to chat with Laila, Pooh, Nuch , Honey, & Benz again. This year we were pleased to meet the ever smiling Tanny. Thank you for all your helpful service and warm personalities. The Deli: good choice for coffee, ice cream or light lunch, thanks Tak. Ta-Krause: Authentic Thai, ask for dishes to be mild if you prefer. Sakura: The food here is delicious, even better than we had in Japan. The Olive: Italian food served with flair. Mussel soup and Chef Enzo’s special Gnocchi are standouts. Themed buffets on Infinity Lawn: Extensive choices of interesting foods, in a beautiful setting. Persian Nights was a favorite. Quan Day Spa: We booked a massage prior to our arrival. Great way to relax tired jet lagged bodies. Thank you Benz & Ying for your expertise. The pool here is superb and the ocean is spectacular, as are the buildings and grounds. The best assets of this hotel are its wonderful staff. Management led by Keith Massey should be proud. To start with the main issue: is this resort worth a stay? My answer: Definitely a big YES!!! Located approximately 2 km from the main road of Khao Lak (=a 10 min taxi ride from the Bang Niang Market) respectively a one and a half hour transfer from Phuket Airport this resort combines the wonderful Beach of Khuk Khak with the very well kept green setting around a huge pool lagoon winding throughout the whole Resort! All rooms on ground floor (situated in 5 one-storied wings) offers direct pool access which is very convenient and worth every surcharge! Our room with pool access was located in a quiet area opposite to Japanese Restaurant “Sakura” in Wing 2. The rooms in this Wing (such as in Wing 1) were recently renovated and were offering a huge comfort with all necessary amenities of a habitation in this category (adjustable air conditioning, ceiling fan, complimentary safe, bath tube, separate walk-in shower, hair dryer, minibar, comfortable bedding with high quality linen, umbrella, flash light, kettle, up to 8 bottles of drinking water daily, chairs on the terrace). The rooms are well kept with every day cleaning! If you really miss something just dial “0” and you will get it soon! The staff is outstanding friendly and helpful! They of course speak Thai but there wasn’t any problem ever to ask or talk in English. The quality and variety of food in all restaurants ( „Waterfront“ is the place for breakfast, „Olive“ Italian Restaurant, „Sakura“ = Japanese Restaurant, „Ta Krai“ is the Thai Restaurant) is great. All these restaurants offers inside (=air conditioned) and outside sitting. Except the breakfast and Theme-Nights which are buffet-style all meals are served upon your choice based on a menue with different courses. If you book a special meal plan over your agency (half board, full board) you will get vouchers upon check-in and you can use them at all dinner Restaurants. For the dinner Restaurants a reservation is required. Beverages (except still water) aren’t included. The prices for the drinks are corresponding to the category of the resort. From 05:00 to 06:00 pm there is a happy hour at all bars throughout the resort. Available (but we didn’t use) is a big Spa (all kind of treatments and massages are offered there in a typical Thai atmosphere) and a well equipped Gym. Of course normally the Resort is maybe more crowded. Although the Corona-Crisis was present at all times the booking situation at the time of our stay was quite good which prove the special quality of this place. At all Restaurants and as well at all toilet-Facilities sanitizer were available and the cleaning was really good. In place of the whole great staff who did a really amazing job I want to mention and thank Jarunee who was our perfect host at the Olive-Restaurant, Nong who was cleaning our room with all the necessary care and Danny at the Front Desk who was assisting me in a quite professional and memorable way. At this point I want to say thank you to everyone who makes us really feel welcomed at the Resort! Stay healthy at all times. We can highly recommend the JW Marriott Khao Lak and whenever possible we will stay again there for sure!! Read less

First impression is of the main reception is very impressive, we were dealt with by a very pleasant and very helpful member of staff, unfortunately we were made to wait for around 2 1/2 hours for our room, which after a 11 hour flight and 1 1/2 transfer we found this very annoying, eventually we were given our swim up room in block 4 which was a lovely peaceful location but unfortunately these are not rooms that get any sunshine on the terrace, this was something that didn’t bother us at all as we spent most of our time near the beach, if you want a swim up room that gets morning and afternoon sunshine you would have to request rooms in either blocks 1 or 3. At check in they sell you a package where you can put money on your account to use in the restaurants and bars unfortunately this cannot be used in the shops or for the minibar, what ever amounts you choose to put your account they give you a little sweetner on top, what they don’t tell you at the time is that for every drink or meal in any of the bars and restaurants there is 10% service charge and a 7% vat charge, we don’t mind tipping if you get good service but why isn’t the vat charge incorporated into the price of the meals, breakfast in the hotel is fabulous so much choice and most times staffed by the most pleasant waitresses, in the evening we visited both the Ta Krai Thai restaurant and the Olive the Italian restaurant, the hotel is portrayed as a 5 star establishment unfortunately the service in the restaurants is at best 3 star, we always booked our meals for 8 pm and found we were being rushed to finish as they stop serving at 10pm, we like to take our time and not be rushed and enjoy our food, by 9-30pm most evenings we were the last couple in the restaurants, this is the reason I give the restaurants 3 stars. The hotel is in a wonderful location in Khao Lak on a fabulous stretch of sand which we walked along most days as we found the slight sea breeze a little cooling in heat of the day, it was always nice to return to our quiet room in block 4 which was kept spotlessly clean by our housekeeper and kept at a pleasantly cool temperature, the bonus was having the swim up pool which stretches around the hotel grounds, unfortunately we had a occasion where we found a couple of peeping toms going around the pool in the darkness trying to look in peoples rooms at 11pm at night, they found it quite a shock when I shined a torch in there face, they turned around and disappeared, my recommendation to the hotel would be that as the pool lights are turned off, the swim up pools are put out of use after 9pm, after all why else would you want to go swimming in the dark it’s potentially quite dangerous. Overall we had a lovely holiday in a comfortable hotel in a fabulous location, would we go back and visit the Marriott again, no I don’t think so Read less
