Loved this stay so much was planning to book the same weeks next year on our return home (separate review to follow on this). However this morning marked the enforcement of taking guests possessions/towels off sun beds if placed before 11am. We were told by the beach guards we were not even allowed to put ours on a bed for a few minutes and have our breakfast before coming back to them. On complaining at reception we were informed this is because guests coming down late morning want a seafront view. We like to get up early and stroll on the beach and have a swim / yoga class and do not expect our things to be moved when we return because some like to stay in bed until 11am especially as this is marketed as a wellness resort. Surely asking people not to place items until after 8am and stating things will be removed if guests gone for hours is a more reasonable compromise. Later today we moved to a spot poolside and a gentleman appeared with an even larger laminated poster to stick on the table next to each bed enforcing these rules. I am very sad to say that if I don’t see via watching others reviews over the next few months that this policy has been altered we won’t be back as I cannot relax things my belongings will be snatched off my lounger if I choose to have a swim before 11am! We first stayed at Mariott in December 2018 and had an absolutely amazing holiday. Best hotel we had stayed at. Incredibly calm and nice. When we returned a year later, expectations were of course very high. But unfortunately they were not incorporated. When we arrived we heard an annoying "boom-boom-boom" and of course wondered what it was. It turned out to be the construction of Marriott's extension of villas. Mariott choosing to do this in high season is incomprehensible ?! Disturbing at the very least. How did Mariott reason ?! On the same day we arrived, many Indian guests arrived. Should guess 100-200. It turned out that there would be a wedding for THREE days. During those days, some of the hotel's facilities were not available to us other guests. Restaurants, pools, lawns ... To top it all, there was a pool party with a DJ screaming. It was very loud and disturbing. Of course, Mariott makes a lot of money at these weddings, but will they make a profit in the long run - when we ordinary guests choose other hotels to escape this chaos? Rhetorical. People have paid a lot of money for a relaxing stay. BEFORE WE BOOK NEXT TIME WE WILL GUARANTEED TO ENSURE THAT NO THREE-DAY WEDDING IS PLANNED. Mariott has to think about whether they want to be a fantastic hotel for everyone or a place to go for a three-day wedding, where other guests get to pay the price in the form of limited facilities and high-end pool parties Read less

The first thing to say is that this is not one of the Marriott chain hotels. It used to be but was sold with agreement the Marriott name could continue to be used. The first thing to say is that this is not one of the Marriott chain hotels. It used to be but was sold with agreement the Marriott name could continue to be used. If I’d know that before I booked I probably wouldn’t have booked it as I like the Marriott chain. We travelled for a 50th birthday in early Oct. After lots of research we chose this hotel. The positives, setting and beach, Italian restaurant. Negatives, We knew there had been renovation work going on but it would be finished by September. It hadn’t. Despite asking for a quiet room we were taken to the first room in a block with work ongoing to extent we had to step over cables and there were ‘task lists’ still on bedroom doors. The smell of fresh paint hit you the minute you walked in. So we asked for another room. Block 1 is quieter but still has maintenance work. You cannot relax in your room between 9 and 5 for the sound of drilling, sanding etc. Avoid blocks 3,4,5 as that is where all the families are and it’s very noisy. Two restaurants closed due to renovation but they just ended up using parts of the main restaurant to offer this food which didn’t really work. We also didn’t realise it was half term in Australia so there were lots and lots of children which made breakfast a nightmare. The food is ok but not at that price, we were B&B but ended up buying a voucher to cover our stay which worked out cheaper. So personal opinion, avoid until you know the renovations are completed. We are currently staying at the JW Marriott Khao Lak for our fifth trip. You might think that after this many trips that visiting the same resort might become ‘old’. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are greeted warmly by all upon our arrival. A number of loyal staff ‘welcome us home’, and we continue to be impressed with how many staff this brand manages to retain - a good sign of how well the staff are treated. The resort is in the middle of a huge renovation and expansion which will be finished late 2020. You would never know it though - building work takes place behind erected walls, and certainly at this point, there is no audible noise from the building site. Food and beverages are diverse and all of an equally high standard in the four restaurants, and we’ve enjoyed many special dining buffets on the beach front. Dietary requirements are catered for with ease, and we’ve been thrilled, as we have an anaphylactic child, at the addition of allergen listings to all foods and menus resort wide. The room is comfortable and staff go out of their way to make it even more so (we currently have two pillow tops on the bed for our comfort level). I can’t recommend this resort highly enough. Keith, and the leadership team are over everything, and I can just see JW Marriott Khao Lak going from strength to strength over the coming years. We will certainly be back!! Read less

Super sized swimming pool (almost 2kms) and we had a pool access room so the kids loved being able to jump in. Beautiful beach, just metres away. The food was AMAZING - so much variety with different dining options from restaurants to buffets by the beach. The Italian and Persian buffets were highlights. If you have dietary requirements, they will go out of their way to assist. Stunning sunsets too. We were so impressed, that we are looking at booking for next year.
