Zeavola Resort

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

The hotel

Beneath a canopy of tropical trees and stately palms on Phi Phi Island, the village-like Zeavola Resort is the definition of barefoot luxury. Sandy pathways tempt you into the greenery from the white powder of Laem Tong Beach, before opening to reveal the resort’s sumptuous spa, pool, and teakwood suites, featuring al fresco rainfall showers. The forest also hides Zeavola’s Thai restaurant, Baxil, while the beach is the setting for barefoot dining on the sands at the Med-inspired Tacada. Within Phi Phi National Marine Park, this all-suite island escape’s a mere boat trip from turtle- and fish-filled snorkelling and scuba diving paradise.

This resort has everything what Thailand has to offer, beautiful white sand beach, jungle, great food, nice people... Would go back anytime! Loved the villa, the little presents on the bed every night, the breakfast which was incredibly good...

We had an early arrival, and time passed by quickly while waiting in a nice cafe. We enjoyed our conversation with Khun Sek who received us at the Royal Pier. It was our first time to Phi Phi Island, and the hour-fast speedboat trip from Phuket island was exhilarating and worth the booking. Walking barefooted from point to point, within lush flora, inside a bird sanctuary, next to the beach. Zeavola is luxury living (lovely rooms with indoor/outdoor shower units) within rustic surroundings that revolves around nature. If you keep an open-mind, you will be rewarded with new experiences, knowledge, insights and discoveries. Two frogs visited us one briefly one evening, and we had insightful time studying them up closer. As Zeavola is integrated to eco-tourism, you are advised to refill your water-bottle with clean water near the reception area - which we did to our convenience when we were swimming in the sea or pool. Most guests walked barefooted, earthing themselves. When you enter your villa or restaurant, you just wash your feet with the urn of water and coconut-scoop. It is like walking in your home, and the 'home away from home feel' is encouraged. We felt recharged after four days, more connected to ourselves and our surroundings. Guests were friendly, yet maintained their privacy. One suggestion, that applies to travelers: 'Ask and you may get'. Service is an active interaction between host and guests. I tapped on the vast knowledge of the attentive General Manager Florian Hallerman and was rewarded with many seminal moments about being respectful of our environment, appreciating the sport of bird-watching, and were surprisingly (luckily) chanced upon an oriole feeding on a caterpillar, a flying lizard posing for us, and other indigenous birds roaming wild in this sanctuary. A nature-photographer, Ricky Zen who happened to be there shooting wildlife and scenery, participated in our conversation, and we the curious and pedestrian became fully immersed in the moment, and became informed. We left with renewed respect and appreciation of Nature. Ask and you shall be treated well, with the staff accommodating to your dietary needs (the Executive Chef is present at breakfast to enquire), travel interests, and curiosity to explore the nearby islands or Phi Phi Island itself. Charter a boat-ride, and you will be treated with Nature's many moments that take your breath away. And, do spray the insect-repellant as advised by the staff, as the occasional sandflies may latch onto you much to your dismay that we ignored the advice. We were assured the next morning that the occasional knocking of our wall was a fruit-bat feeding at night. The easy wireless access allows you to update your social media status with new photographs. We would certainly return. We may be tempted to book the highest-situated Villa which has a view of the sea, with the unit fenced by some gorgeous tall trees with beautiful birds soaring near, and far. Read less

Our bungalow's indoor/outdoor feel was the most unique (in a great way) experience we've had at a hotel and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended!!! The pictures posted are actually what the resort looks like in person. I was able to wake up for the sunrise one morning and took this amazing photo (posted below) just using my iPhone (no filters). This place is truly that beautiful. Read less
