Zeavola Resort

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

The hotel

Beneath a canopy of tropical trees and stately palms on Phi Phi Island, the village-like Zeavola Resort is the definition of barefoot luxury. Sandy pathways tempt you into the greenery from the white powder of Laem Tong Beach, before opening to reveal the resort’s sumptuous spa, pool, and teakwood suites, featuring al fresco rainfall showers. The forest also hides Zeavola’s Thai restaurant, Baxil, while the beach is the setting for barefoot dining on the sands at the Med-inspired Tacada. We stayed at Zeavola as a couple using a deals.com voucher for 4 nights including transfers, breakfasts and dinners. We were collected from our hotel in Phuket by private car and taken to Phuket marina where we were given a free drink and snack and were given the run down of the resort by a super enthusiastic guide. We then travelled to Zeavola via private speedboat where we were actually greeted out on the water by several concierge who took our bags, gave us refreshments and took our welcome photo. We felt like royalty! The staff left our welcome photo in a frame on our bed on the second day and it was so nice to come back to! The breakfasts were yum and the 4 course dinners were superb and so yum! Thank you to the staff, Bank, Oat, and Nico, who were so hospitable. We also loved being joined at breakfast by Claus, the resident rooster. We do think poor Clause is a bit lonely needs a new girlfriend though since his last girlfriend passed away... We had free use of the kayaks for as long as we wanted as well as snorkelling equipment and other play things like Frisbee and bat and ball game which was fun. The resort is also situated on the beach and its lovely calm water but the tide is low after about midday and not swimable (at least during low season when we were there), and doesn’t come in again until about 6pm. The location of the resort is also remote with only a few small food stalls within walking distance along the beach. The drinks were about the same price as at the resort. It costs about $70AUD for a long tail boat to take you to the main area of Phi Phi and there is a 3-4 hour restriction, including the 30 minutes trip to and from Ton Sai. The 2-3 hours at Ton Sai is not nearly enough to familiarise yourself with the area and do all the fun stuff like grab a bite, a drink, shop, etc. There are no vehicles on Phi Phi and the walk from Zeavola to Tonsai is 2 hours, and although we were happy to do it, it had been raining every day and the ground was slippery and we heard some parts of the walk are challenging, so we only made it to Tonsai by long tail once. We subsequently stayed at another resort that was on a cliff side which made walking into town or the beach challenging, but they offered free rides and even gave us a mobile telephone to call when we were ready for a pick-up. Zeavola should really consider offering complimentary boat rides to make the resort more attractive, given the remoteness of the location, and to be honest to bring it up to an honest 5 star resort. The number one most challenging thing about the resort was the mosquitoes. The resort is nearest to mosquito island and they are everywhere, night and day. The staff attempt to alleviate this by spraying 2 or 3 times per week but its to no avail. The bathrooms are located outside the room, which is not an issue, but I was eaten alive every time we sat outside or walked outside to use the bathroom. We had a private pool, however, when we tried to swim in it, I got bitten on the chin so it was not much fun and we didn’t swim in the pool again, also due to the wet season. Read less

We had chosen the Zeavola resort for our honeymoon stay on Phi Phi island because of its uniqueness and privacy. It was presented online as the perfect resort to spend some quality time with your loved one away from everything. As i am working in the travel sector and being a sales manager in one of the largest organizations worldwide, i can say that i am not easily fascinated by hotels as i visit a lot of them due to the nature of my work where i travel often. When me and my wife arrived at this beautiful resort, immediately we felt the warmness and the sense of hospitality. Not only by the staff, which welcomed us with the best possible way and guided us to our private villa but mostly by the perfect environment of this resort which is located within the nature, keeping just the right balance between simplicity and luxury. A real tropical paradise with a traditional touch of Thai culture... These people have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay as qualitative as possible and relax your body and mind. The cleanliness is beyond the levels of excellence with room service at least twice a day proving you with daily fresh fruit, water, clean towels and even leaving you a few gift surprises as a token of their appreciation for choosing this hotel. All of the staff is constantly making sure for your comfortableness and relaxation, either you are eating in one of the two restaurants, swimming in the pool or enjoying one of the delicious cocktails under the sun on the private beach. Although the Zeavola Resort is located on the top north of the island and away from most of the other hotels, apart from a calm & quiet environment with lots of privacy, it can also offer you a lot of excitement with a wide range of activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling or many other excursions around the area using their traditional long tail boats which is always a unique experience. Finally the food and the spa also make a difference and everything is so well placed and designed which matches perfectly with the rest of the picture. Judging from the above, you have already realized that i totally recommend Zeavola Resort to everyone that wants to live this unique experience and spend some memorable relaxing moments in this pure paradise! Thank you Zeavola! Read less

The rooms are amazing with “open” walls so you really feel close to nature. The bedrooms are large and comfy. The staff is super friendly and the Hotel Nanager not only greet you when you arrive but also comes around every breakfast to see if everything is ok. They really care about their guests I would recommend 3-4 nights as the activities on the island are few. We took a private boat around the islands close by and that was a great experience. Great crew and very reasonable priced. We will be back soon!! Read less
