Zeavola Resort

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

The hotel

Beneath a canopy of tropical trees and stately palms on Phi Phi Island, the village-like Zeavola Resort is the definition of barefoot luxury. Sandy pathways tempt you into the greenery from the white powder of Laem Tong Beach, before opening to reveal the resort’s sumptuous spa, pool, and teakwood suites, featuring al fresco rainfall showers. The forest also hides Zeavola’s Thai restaurant, Baxil, while the beach is the setting for barefoot dining on the sands at the Med-inspired Tacada. Within Phi Phi National Marine Park, this all-suite island escape’s a mere boat trip from turtle- and fish-filled snorkelling and scuba diving paradise.

We received a warm welcome at Zeavola after a complimentary pick up by long tail boat that met the ferry in Laemtong Bay (pays to let them know when and how you’re arriving). All staff were friendly and professional throughout our four night stay. Villas are set amongst the trees and laid out to maximise privacy. The accommodation was very clean, comfortable and characterful, with a large air-conditioned bedroom, generous outdoor living area and spacious bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower options. Wifi, tea and filter coffee facilities, minibar and fridge were also provided, along with personal touches like the small gifts left on the bed each evening. We regularly dined at Zeavola’s beach-side and indoor restaurants with a comprehensive breakfast buffet, delicious food, drinks and attentive service, though other restaurants and bars are within an easy walk away along the beach. We did a number of dives with the onsite diving and activities centre (see separate review) and the service was equally good. This is a beautiful and tranquil setting delivered in a eco-friendly way. Thank you Zeavola for a wonderful experience. Read less

I had been meaning to come here for time as a friend had stayed twice and raved about the place and I can see why. This is an eco resort of sorts so if your idea of 5 star means lovely white tiling and air conditioning everywhere you walk then this isn’t for you. The rooms are built very sympathetically to blend with the surroundings and they are not the easiest to see from the beach. In order to do this thought they are very comfortable only the bedroom portion of the rooms can be locked and has air conditioning. Most of the rooms or maybe I should call them suites have both and indoor and outdoor shower. When you go out at night you do need your torch or you will unfortunately walk on frogs as I discovered on my first night. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and had that right combination of not being obvious but suddenly there when you needed them. The restaurant is fantastic - actually has the best food of any of the restaurants around but, admittedly if you walk along the beach there are some great local restaurants that are cheaper, still delicious but you know you get what you pay for. Also there are a couple of local shops just along the beach - so you can stock your minibar yourself. The minibar prices are not bad but.... Every afternoon staff deliver some fresh fruit and ice, water is provided free of charge. The staff put out a litre a person a day and if you want more you can refill yourself - it is all free. I came here to relax after a very stressful few months and it worked a treat not only did I forget what date it was I completely forgot what day of the week it was - this place is that relaxing. I love the way they are retaining the trees and vegetation, and the staff are terrific. I highly recommend this resort as a peaceful holiday location. Great range of activities as well, and good access to a range of local restaurants at the sea gypsy village just down the beach and a terrific Thai restaurant, Chilli and Pepper, at the end of the beach. It is not part of the resort, so don't expect the same impeccable service as you get at the resort restaurants, but you will have a fascinating evening and terrific food. Read less

We realized that the hotel doesn’t provide shuttle services from the Tonsai pier once we arrived, and the phone call didn’t get through for a quite a while when we tried calling. Hotel staff was friendly when we arrived. We booked a garden suite, and the room was nice and spacious with a patio and outdoor shower. The hotel is right on the renowned Laem Tong Beach. However, it is faraway from the center of actions, and needed a long tail boat to get to (~1200 baht one way). We only stayed for one night, so it was ok, but it could definitely get boring after a while. Mosquitos were also an issue, even after the housekeeping sprayed the repellent at night. P.S. some cash went missing during our stay. We have no evidence if it were taken by the hotel staff, but would suggest others to be more careful with valuables while traveling in Thailand. Read less

We are rather biased, as it's our TENTH time staying at Zeavola, and we love it- we come back every year! We can't rave enough about the location, on a single stretch of private beach all to yourself, beach bags in the sand, umbrellas to shade you and gentle turquoise water lapping gently on the sand, it's the most tranquil place you can imagine to spend your days swimming, reading, snoozing, relaxing and unwinding. We can't rave enough about the grounds, villas are set amongst the jungle like grounds with a natural style, though manicured and still cared for - and the villas have a half open living room, outdoor shower, indoor bathroom, and then a closed bedroom with air con and coffee/tea/tv/wifi etc. The rooms are all glass so you can open your windows to look out amongst the foliage. The restaurant is the star of the hotel, the main dining area is on the sand, tables set up each night with lanterns and it's relaxing as you listen to quiet but cool tunes like Buddha Bar, whilst you eat from either a la carte or buffet options each night... feet in the sand, stars overhead and water lapping just infront of you - it's perfection and so romantic and beautiful! Definitely worth a stay if you're a couple and have a few spare days to unwind and just be together and get away from the world! We will DEFINITELY be back next year - special thanks to Florian the extraverted General Manager, Lion his 2iC and the team who look after each year like May and Sa and Niko! You won't get better service in Thailand and this team is one of the best! See you next year! Read less
