Rayavadee is without doubt the best Hotel I have ever stayed at. What makes Rayavadee so special apart from an amazing location is their staff. Nothing is too much trouble and every interaction that I had with the staff was a pleasure. There is a culture of professionalism delivered with a smile and genuine warmness. The journey from Krabi Airport to the Rayavadee was seemless, from the boat trip (provided by the Hotel) to the reception on arrival where I was met and welcomed by the Executive Manager, Romain Aletru. Once the formalities were complete I was escorted to my Pool Villa (112), shown around and everything explained. The villa had everything one could want and the private pool was a lovely place to relax. The restaurants were excellent with a great choice of local and international dishes. The attention to detail by all the staff both kitchen & restaurant was beyond compare. When at the pool I did not find the noise from the boats on the beach to be an issue. The guys at the pool worked hard all day, water, ices and fruit was brought round regularly and there was no shortage of pool lounges. The Security did a good job at the beach locations, steering non hotel guests away from the property in a polite but firm manner. I booked my excursion to the Phi Phi Islands with Selma in the Excursions Dept who was an absolute joy to deal with. I would like to day a big Thank You to Romain Aletru and all the wonderful staff, I look forward to seeing you again in early 2021. Read less

A lot has been written about Rayavadee, some inaccurate or now out of date. After 12 nights there on full board, we got the full Rayavadee experience, good or otherwise. The Deluxe pavilions are extremely comfortable and well maintained. We slept incredibly well and the efficient air conditioning kept the mosquitoes at bay. The grounds are stunning and well maintained. The staff are absolutely charming and the service is superlative. Special mention to Issy and Bota in the Grotto who really went out of their way to look after us. The Hotel’s excursions on their own private speed boats are excellent. We joined one group trip and had two private trips.. they were a highlight of the trip and an opportunity to escape the crowds that invade Railay and Phranang beaches every day. You also get your own private guide (ours, Suyan, was excellent). They are expensive but worth it. The area for urgent improvement is the food. We have enjoyed excellent cuisine on previous trips to the Maldives and this was, by comparison, quite disappointing. Most guests we spoke to felt they had a reduced appetite in the heat, but portions here, whether starters or main courses, were usually too big, and not particularly tasty. If you are not a fan of thai food, you will get stuck very quickly... you will have eat at the hotel’s ”signature” Raya restaurant, which is like a graveyard every night.. that to me speaks volumes of what the guests think of the current menu and the quality of the food in there. The daily lunches at the Grotto were excellent, but for the evening BBQ there, you are presented with one overwhelmingly massive plate of mediocre food. Railay Terrace was hit and miss, but Krua Phranang, for thai food only, is better. The good news is that a new executive chef has just arrived, Nikolas, and the special event and food he laid on for valentine’s night was excellent.. hopefully he can soon fix the other menus / cooking, and it would then deserve a five star rating. One tip: don’t hold back from asking for certain ingredients to be removed or others to be added.. for instance, we wanted a chicken green thai curry, but they only had a vegetarian one.. they were quite happy to change that for us. This flexibility enabled us to bespoke the meals to suit us over our stay. Read less

We stayed only for 2 nights after New Year at this stunning property. Pickup from the Krabi airport which is included in the nightly rate if you book directly or via Leading Hotels was super nice: nice welcome by staff at the airport, you go by air conditioned minivan to a marina where you take a shared boat to the hotel. At the hotel, you are greeted by management and the your personal butler explains the property and checks you in, escorts you to the room. We had luck with our butler: Joy who was the nicest and most caring person you could wish for as a butler. You are given the mobile number of your butler and encouraged to text her via WhatsApp whenever you needed something. Joy was very responsive and really did an excellent job taking care of us. The Butlers would also visit you in the property proactively and ask you how the stay is and suggest things to do or transfer etc. The hotel honours Leaders Club membership, we were upgraded, bottle of champagne waiting for us, personal welcome note and present provided: well done! Breakfast at Raitalay terrace thrown in (which we learned is apparently only for the VIP guests). Rayavadee as a resort is simply magical!!! Location-wise, it is stunning, bordering 3 beautiful beaches and looking out on spectacular landscapes (see photo evidence). The property feels in the middle of the jungle with cool animals, but never to much of it (other reviews are clearly exaggerating and we never felt threatened by any) and the property feels very special because of the surroundings it is in. The only downside of such a great location is that the beaches (which are all public beaches in Thailand) get really busy with day trippers and it’s hard to really spend a relaxing day at the beach. This did not bother us really as we were there only for 2 days one of which we spend on a yacht doing island-hopping and there is also a nice huge pool surrounded by spectacular mountains where you can spend the day. What bugged me more was the music during the night, a bar in the small town next to the resort turned up their music so loud that we could hear it in the resort every night. This it not Rayavadee’s fault, but something one should know to avoid disappointment. The little two storey Pavillons (we had a terrace pavilion) were great, they showed a bit of patina, but in a charming way and it seemed perfectly consistent with the overall jungle setting. Bed was super comfortable, I love their Jasmin shower gel. We enjoyed breakfast at the Raitalay Terrace every morning which is absolutely stunning overlooking Railay beach (which was virtually empty until 10:30/11:00 am). Ambiance of the restaurant The Grotto is out of a movie. However, we thought that quality of the food at lunch and dinner at the Grotto and the Thai restaurant could improve, it was a bit bland (which is the main reason why I “only” gave 4 stars here). What I liked best was the great staff, apart from our butler Joy, the lady in the activities centre who upgraded our boat for the islands trip from a one-engine to a two-engine boat without surcharge, our guide for the islands trip, the chefs and waiters, the pool boys: everyone just went out of their way to make our stay memorable. When we left for Phuket via speedboat, Joy and the lady from the activities center stayed at the beach and waived goodbye for at least 10 minutes until we could not see them any longer! What a nice farewell and what commitment! We are deeply impressed and will be back for sure!!! Read less

This is a resort which left us with a mixed feeling. All about the Resort was amazing, stylish even if a bit aged, but in very good maintenance. The extensive plus list: The landscape, gardens and wildlife. The 3 beaches' front areas, which in fact are 2 as the other one is used only for arrivals and departures. The rooms, spacious and with all the facilities you need along the 2 floors; living area with a small washroom in the ground floor and a kingsize bed on the first floor with a nice bathroom with bath and shower. 4 great restaurants with a wide selection of Asian and Western food. We were staying with half board and never had a problem with any extra cost no matter what we order, except of course for the wines and the special dinner at the Grotto, which we knew in advance to have an aditional cost. Beautiful and big pool, clean and with a separate area for children and a big option of bed locations to relax under the sun or shade. Great service at all times, bringing fresh water, ice creams, fresh towels and aperitifs, all included and with no cost. On top of all, the staff. Always friendly, smily and helpful. From the check in, during all the stay until the check out and transfer to the airport, we honestly can't say we experienced a better service anywhere else than we've been before. We were conceed a clean room for a late check-out with no aditional cost. I regret to say there are a few minus, maybe some or all out of control from the Resort and Management: The quality of the wi-fi is poor. No beach reserved area, not sure if by option or by impossibility. However, the biggest and relevant problem is the permanent noise coming from all the boats arriving and departing from the beaches. It's a permanent activity and crowd of tourists arriving, staying and leaving the beaches just in front of the private and pool areas. You don't listenning the waves or the wildlife. Impossible for a nap on the pool. Only in the evening it calms down, with ocasional interruptions. I believe this is what Thailand is, but which oblige me to rank it bellow other options in the Caribbean or the Maldives. The last is the only reason I may not return, sorry to say. Read less

We stayed in a Deluxe Villa in late Jan/early Feb for 4 nights. Pros The villa was traditional. Good size day bed on ground floor. Firm bed with feather pillows. Located in the grounds (which are mature and lush) of the hotel. The villas blend perfectly with nature! Tea, coffee, water and biscuits are complimentary (and regularly topped up) in the rooms etc. There are loads of little touches that make this hotel so special. The pool area is lovely and large and not crowded. It overlooks Railay Beach. Complimentary water (infused with lemon and limes) provided around the pool. The scenery is spectacular. We had 2 massages each. These were excellent. Tic - thank you ever so much. Best I have ever had on my travels. We hired one of the hotel speed boats and went on the Phi Phi Island trip. I can not recommend it enough. The scenery was out of this world and the crew were fabulous. The staff are amazing, genuine and so helpful. The staff make this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble. Security also do an amazing job keeping non residents out of the hotel. Susan thank you for all your help and tips, it was very much appreciated. Cons None! Within the control of the hotel. Overall A wonderful stay in a beautiful resort with nature. Rustic charm. Loved the cheeky monkeys and lizards! Note: the beaches in Thailand are not private they are public so you do share them.
