JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa

Phuket, Thailand

The hotel

It's a top-class place, located on pristine, beautiful Mai Khao Beach. The JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa was built in the middle of a coconut plantation and the landscaped gardens are particularly attractive with their lush plants and lotus ponds. Hidden among the foliage is the award-winning Mandara Spa where scrubs, wraps, manicures, facials and massages are available. The rooms are very fetching, with tiled floors, silk fabrics and Thai-style décor touches. Candlelit, open-air Thai dining in Andaman Grill is a treat, with locally caught seafood on the menu.

The breakfast team at the Marriot Cafe (sorry we only remember the name of a lovely lady called Por and our breakfast waiter Rachen who was always so cheerful), the staff at the Japanese restaurant were all amazing. The ladies who cleaned our rooms were also so sweet and helpful. (Level 3). We hope that hotel management can convey our thanks to everyone. For parents keen to try it out- the hotel provided a high chair, a steamer and a cot for our use during the stay. The Sala area was also converted using a bedspread and a comforter to a nice play area for our son. It is difficult travelling with a young child. But the team at the JW Marriot Phuket made it enjoyable! Other tips for parents - the teppanyaki theatre is worth a visit. And the fire show is amazing! There is a nearby shopping area named "Turtletown" that is rather minimalist. But honestly, the food was great within the Hotel. We only ventured out to 7/11 for some toiletries. We have traveled to many beach resorts but truly, this was one of the best. Not just for its beautiful beach and grounds, but mainly because its wonderful and welcoming staff. Read less

Also the hospitality was decent and we got our rooms upgraded which was a bonus for us:) The Indian food range and quality is below average, the management should look for a specialized chef. Same goes with the In room dining services are quite slow. We hope to the management services should improve on this. Read less

We had to make the obligatory sight-seeing tours in Phuket town but would have loved to stay in the resort. The Thai massage was lovely too! My kids enjoyed the playroom and the pool. Being monsoon period now, we didn’t really stay near the beach with the loud crashing waves, but we can imagine how nice it’d be in the right season! My girl complained that “the sand is too soft” :p The only complaints were the restaurants were abit pricey (and not very yummy) and there was no place specializing in Thai food. There were not much choices in the small shopping mall nearby. Nevertheless, we’d love to come back again, and soon! Read less

My family and I stayed at this resort as our first stop in Phuket. We hadn't been to Phuket in 9 years and our memories of Phuket weren't that great, so we arrived here with little to no expectations. But this place made us feel so warm, welcomed and we were treated like royalty; now my family is eager to get back to Phuket and this resort in particular. CONs - ground floor rooms should be best avoided. We paid extra for an ocean view room and it was on ground floor. We had a resident cat that would sleep on our porch daily and due to this cat, my son was bitten by fleas daily. Housekeeping would spray our rooms daily, yet our son got feasted on daily. Care should be taken to ensure that resident pets are healthy & bug free. This did ruin the experience for our 4yo son. - location is a bit isolated, so you need to eat all meals at the resort - beach is beautiful but it was stinger season, yet no signage - resort is looking tired and needs maintenance/upgrade. Tiles are broken in the children's pool (can cause cuts), statues in the pool area are also broken, ruins the appeal of this resort. - there are too many mosquito's everywhere. One morning my son and I went for a bike ride towards the villas and the swarm of mosquito's was so thick you could see them everywhere. Management should do something about this - upon check in I was presented with the opportunity to buy money, it was 1am and I was very tired from a long and delayed flight with a young child and my brain couldn't comprehend what the staff were telling me. I did ask if I could come in after a nap to understand what I was purchasing and agree to the deal but apparently it was a one time at check in only and the staff would not budge. I didn't understand what this deal was until I reached our next resort who did a much better job at explaining - the resort is very loud at times. they host a lot of events so there can be lots of non-guests roaming around and making lots of noise, some are even drunk PROs - the rooms are very comfortable and spacious, they have a little nook for children's play area and it is perfect for families - the buffet breakfast is by far the best I've had in all my years travelling. It is huge and the quality of the food is amazing. they have a separate station for children and offer candy free of charge, children's themed plates, cups, cutlery - you name it, they have thought of every little traveller. I still miss the sweet mango & coconut juice. The buffet breakfast is also until 12midday. So no need to rush to get there in the morning. - they have a turtle village & feeding time to keep the kids entertained - the kids club is manned, secure and the staff keep the kids entertained at all times. It is also very clean and shoe free environment - the resort grounds are beautiful, tranquil and clean. we loved our bike rides and walks around the resort - they offer free bike hire for everyone. take up this offer, such a great way to see the resort, surroundings & tire the kids - the spa is really good, but a little expensive. I tried the four hands massage, facial and soak and it was so relaxing. well worth it. - the gym staff were amazing, I had requested an earlier open and they did it for the 6 nights I was there. All the basic equipment you need is there. The showers in the gym also have a hot & cold jacuzzi - highly recommend it. - the bed is very comfortable and they have a pillow menu where you can trade your pillow for another one. I used this and loved the selection. - housekeeping are very prompt, diligent and just such nice people, every day our housekeeping lady would bring gifts for our son. She was such a pleasure. In fact all staff were amazing, they would remember you and your children's names which in turn would make your children really happy & excited - every day the children's pool offers free bananas and icy poles. such a great touch and the icy poles were very tasty - truly a very relaxing resort. Since there isn't many places to venture out to, you are forced to relax and enjoy. loved it Read less
