JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa

Phuket, Thailand

The hotel

It's a top-class place, located on pristine, beautiful Mai Khao Beach. The JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa was built in the middle of a coconut plantation and the landscaped gardens are particularly attractive with their lush plants and lotus ponds. Hidden among the foliage is the award-winning Mandara Spa where scrubs, wraps, manicures, facials and massages are available. The rooms are very fetching, with tiled floors, silk fabrics and Thai-style décor touches. Candlelit, open-air Thai dining in Andaman Grill is a treat, with locally caught seafood on the menu.

What a fantastic team of staff at the Splash Pool / south pool. So kind, helpful and caring . My kids love being in their company and their hard work is much appreciated. Chef Chon and Mr. Dam did a great job. Chef Chon's cooking is excellent. The mashed potato is super yummy. The lamb and beef are very delicious. The service is very good too. A very nice BBQ dinner in this trip.

Great dinner, thanks to Kom and Job for their great service and preparation for our dinner. Food is great and delicious. I like the lamb rack, very tasty- yummy! Food portion is big, we ordered dinner for 2 and the food is good enough for 3 person including my 11 year old son.

We absolutely love this property. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, it blew us away. We’ve decided to return to the property before the end of year for a second experience. A special thank you to Anna and staff!

My family genuinely love this place, we have stayed at this property many many times. If you have kids you will be hard pressed to find a better resort. The main swimming pool is the perfect place to wind away the day with your kids in your eye line happily playing and usually making friends. The property mostly is kept extremely well. The villas are the best I have ever stayed in, they are very spacious, have everything you could want, including a walk in kitchenet. There is ample selection of restaurants and places to grab a drink, including a number of fine dinning options. It’s a great resort. But I would be remised to the resort that I love if I did not point out were they are dropping the ball consistently. We stayed in two resorts this summer and the difference in service across the board was noticeably like night and day. In the first resort, the staff were incredibly friendly, they spoke to our kids who are very friendly, they made us feel incredibly welcome and really it was just a joy to stay at that place with all those helpful friendly faces. The JW Phuket is not that place, the staff did not look happy to be there. Even when you interacted with them for a simple request like, can you find a Sun Umbrella for my family as the only sun lounger available was in the direct sun, they had a scowl. They avoid contact with guests who look like they about to ask for assistance, English is non existent with most of the pool staff and even when they are moving your cases, they throw them about like they are packing a budget airline and no one is looking. We were told we could have an early check in so we took our kids to the pool and waited after giving front desk our mobile. We never received the call. When we did check into the room at 4pm, our bags were not there, I called to ask for them as our kids were wet and in an airconned room. Bags came 10 minutes later and they were not our bags, they went and came back 10 minutes later with our bags. That was the start of our stay, at the end of our stay, The buggy transport to take us to reception did not turn up ask requested, so we had to call to ask again, when it did, it was by yet another member of staff who looked like he would be rather doing anything but this, he drove very fast with two young kids sitting on the back seat. When we went to check out, there was 5 desks and only one member of staff with 5 guests queeing like they were in a supermarket to get assistance, at a 5 star resort. Yet the Timeshare vacation club desk is always staffed by at least 4 people, well presented, trained and smiling all the time. The pool furniture was really in a shocking state, lots of cushions torn and just mucky dirty, covered in stains. Our last visit to the JW Phuket was a short extra last minute unplanned trip, I decided not to complain about anything because we just wanted to chill and we will come back because we do really love the place. But I do think the lack of attention to detail around the pool which is were the majority of guests spend the majority of their time needs addressing. I know staffing resorts especially on Phuket is very challenging, but I would suggest staffing needs urgent attention. Also the Aircons whilst normally brilliant have a habit of changing gears in the middle of the night and sound like someone just turned on a vacuum cleaner in your room. The lady who runs the Andaman Grill should be put in charge of front of house staff training, she was incredibly friendly and her team mirrored her obvious care for her job. With a little attention to detail, this place could be the best resort in Asia. Read less
