It must be said that the town of Patong is unattractive, noisy and seedy. You notice none of this in the Merlin Patong. As you enter the open reception area you can see a touch of class. It looks cool, it is cool, and the staff make it inviting. Set out in a U shape, the accommodation blocks surround the 4 pools with plenty of greenery and tall trees to make it very attractive and sheltered. The rooms are a good size and mine overlooked the pool area. The cleaning staff do a good job and the hotel always looked good. There are several pool bars that do very good food. Towels are provided free. Breakfast was good for a few days with a good choice, but it never varied so it became dull. I had one meal in the main restaurant that was excellent. Beyond the pool the grounds extend to a large open restaurant that faces the beach. The beach is also rather splendid, busy without being crowded, plenty of atmosphere but not noisy. There are so many places to eat near by, and Bangla Road is a 15 minute walk away, ugly during the day, dynamic, noisy and fascinating and very seedy at night. Next to the hotel is the Hard Rock Cafe where you can enjoy live music in the evenings, there are numerous massage parlours offering more if you want and lots of retail opportunities. As a holiday hotel I would definitely recommend the Merlin Patong, the staff were all excellent and pleased to help, sitting in the sun by the pool or on the beach you might think your were in Paradise. Not smiling or positive attitude. Stern and demanding for our passports. Copy of the passports were not accepted. Bellboys were very nice and friendly to take our luggage to our rooms. The beds were too soft and small in size. Breakfast was okay but no welcome at the entrance. Staff was not there to be of assistance if you need it. Shame, we expected better. Read less

The pools are fantastic, happy hour at the centre pool bar is popular. In October there are not many people around and can always get a leaner by the pool. Get a shower and thunderstorm later in the afternoon on some days. But the temperature is great so it doesn't matter getting wet. Easy and prompt check in and check out. The breakfast is fairly comprehensive with lots of choice and some variety. Read less

I stayed here for over a week! The location was great! Within easy walking distance to all facilities, only across the road from the beach. The Buffet Breakfast was delicious and staff were lovely! I especially loved the swim-up bar and pool area! I would definitely go back!
