The Old Phuket Karon Beach Resort

Phuket, Thailand

The hotel

Its name may suggest a hotel steeped in history, but The Old Phuket delivers both traditional Thailand and chic modernity in everything from its four dining venues to its choice of rooms. And it's all just moments from beautiful Karon Beach and a stroll from Aroona Karon's shopping and dining scene. You'll find heritage hints harking back to the spice trade days in the hotel's Sino Wing, with its rooftop pool featuring a children's pool (ideal when they're not enjoying their kids' club), and crisp white geometric minimalism in the Serene Wing, which frames a smart urban-style pool with little nooks for peaceful reflection.

Just back from 10 days at the Old Phuket and I love this place , we were here last year in April and this year I didn't even look at other hotels this is just perfect xx We were in the serene wing and the rooms are huge , the beds are so comfy and they are king size plus , rooms are cleaned every day towels changed and you are provided with bottled water , tea, sugar and coffee , you have a huge balcony which is just great to sit with cup of whatever looking over the pool and just chill , This is one of the most relaxing holiday's i have ever had , the reason we went back , the grounds are amazing , you have two guarded entry points , one directly across the road from the beach which is at the bottom of the main drag the other is at the top of the main drag so you can walk right round , it is a fantastic location .. Breakfast is also very good from bacon and eggs to yogurt and fresh fruit , toast pastries ,salad and loads more , so many choices and all lovely , something for everyone and it runs from 6.30 to 10am so you don't have to drag yourself out of bed at a silly time , There are two buildings and 2 pools the rooftop pool in the Sino wing is quieter but I'm not saying the other is noisy , just kids playing , there is no loud blaring music at either which is great . This is a beautiful hotel and you wont regret booking this . I have a larger review from last year at the end of April if you want to read it ,I have a lot more info on it , have a read . I would just like to thank everyone at the old Phuket for having a part in making my holiday so fantastic . I will be back again !!!!! Read less

Just round the corner are lots of amazing restaurants with fish displayed outside, that you can choose from tfor your meal, BBQ or fried. They also compete with one another so the prices are competitive. And the beach is just over the road. There is a market within 5 minutes and a 15 minute walk gets you into the town centre, The BBC forcast rain evey day. THEY LIED! the weather was great. ONly rained a few hours, so we got to see the beach, the Phi Phi islands (and had a cold beer on the beach and some snokleing), and the waterfall trip was well worth it. Personally, I went to Bridge Travel for my trips as they were much cheaper, and I didn't need to haggle, they just gave a brilliant price, they are down a side street in town, and my tailor is Kenny and Gita. I found two places that sold the "watches". one was high quality, the other not so high. I bought one and I am still very pleased with it, it still works!!! and looks great. btw, Philipe Patek has more style than Rolex! Read less

The room in the Sino Wing was spacious and conveniently situated near the pool. We were upgraded to a room with a spa bath at no extra cost. (perhaps because it was my birthday) The on-suite bedroom is spacious with a comfortable king-size bed. Breakfast is a feast and has everything one can wish for. (Except cheese and sweetener to replace sugar). I intend going back. Read less

Let me firstly say that after moving to Patong the next night that Karon beach is far better than Patong - far less harassment, way cleaner beaches and a far more relaxed vibe. Old Phuket is a pretty property with lots of old Portugese charm and the staff are top notch. My pool view room was spacious with a recently renovated, and spectacular,… Read more

Old Phuket is a pretty property with lots of old Portugese charm and the staff are top notch. My pool view room was spacious with a recently renovated, and spectacular, bathroom. With that said, I struggled to get work done on my tablet because the wi-fi did not work on two occassions (from a one night stay) and the blinds to the bathroom, which looks out onto the pool (so others can see you in the shower) were crappy steel string-pull shutters and, wouldn't you know, got stuck. Due to having excursions booked every day we didn’t spend too much time in the hotel. But from what we saw of it you can’t ask for much more for the price you pay. Due to having excursions booked every day we didn’t spend too much time in the hotel. But from what we saw of it you can’t ask for much more for the price you pay. We were upgraded to a lovely room on the top floor on the serene wing, with an amazing bathroom. The room was cleaned everyday. Our only complaint would be the maids were not the most friendly. We had the do not disturb sign on every night (we have been woken in other hotels in the past by the maid barging in). Yet the maids at this hotel didn’t seem to pay attention. The breakfast choice was decent, and there is enough for everyone. The pool area is small but the hotel was pretty quiet anyway. We had lunch a few times at the pool bar and it was great quality and a good price too. The chef Jack was great! Read less
