We chose to stay at The Slate due to the quirky design features. The rooms themselves are beautifully designed. The exterior of the building however looks like something from Soviet Russia (the parts you don't see in the marketing info). The exterior of the building however looks like something from Soviet Russia (the parts you don't see in the marketing info). Exposed AC units on the exterior make it feel more like cheap staff accommodation than a 5* property. Service is slow and not particularly well organised (though individual staff are friendly and lovely) Black Ginger is a beautiful setting but with mediocre food at extortionate prices All in all - would suggest checking out other nearby properties and really look through the traveller photos before choosing to stay here. We were keen to get to our hotel in time for a swim and a relaxing dinner. It wasn’t far our hotel is close to the airport at the wonderful Nai Yang beach, one of Phuket’s famed sandy beaches adjacent to Sirinat National Park. We head south to Nai Yang beach and The Slate Phuket, for a much needed rest. The ‘tin-mine’ vibe of the 5 star Slate Phuket is quirky and unique. I fell in love with the design the moment I stepped into the hotel. It is simply exquisite. The Slate Phuket has been a constant fixture on Phuket’s resort hotel inventory for many years and was previously branded the Indigo Pearl. Located close to Phuket International airport the resort occupies a prime space adjacent to the natural beauty of Sirinat National Park and Nai Yang beach, one of Phuket’s best and most beautiful, ideal for swimming and sea sports. The designer beachfront hotel was rebranded as The Slate Phuket in 2016. The resort was designed by Bill Bensley in a style that reflects the area's former tin mining heritage, with several custom-made works of metallic modern art. The rooms follow this theme. Oversized and packed with every amenity imaginable. They are great rooms and you’ll want for nothing! We even had an outdoor bath tub. It wasn’t tin but brass! Later that evening we had dinner at Black Ginger restaurant. An award winning Thai restaurant it was quite simply superb, the cuisine, presentation and service were top notch. To get to the restaurant is a delight, one of those memorable moments - an ‘experience’. A hand pulled raft to cross a smoke filled lagoon lit by flaming torches. Straight out of a movie. Loved it! We stayed here for nights and loved it. We were in the block closest to the beach access and dive center. It was really quiet and we slept in very comfy beds. We stayed here for 9 nights in January 2020. The resort is huge and it takes a while to get your bearings. It caters for all travellers. The three pools are all great. We mainly went to pool 3, the quieter infinity pool where Ian looked after us really well, keeping us hydrated and pampered with cooling cloths and pineapple skewers for refreshment. We ate at all of the restaurants. Black Ginger is a great experience and has a fabulous ambience. The food in the Japanese restaurant Rivet was probably the best on offer. It was a pity there weren't more guests in the restaurants, for atmosphere. This is probably because the restaurants are fairly expensive by local standards. Maybe a reduction in prices would encourage people to eat in the hotel rather than the other local restaurants. The local restaurants where we ate were all good. The staff in general were really helpful and friendly, particularly the breakfast crew. Breakfast itself had everything you could want, and their croissants were exceptional. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and well maintained. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Read less

No hospitality, whatsoever! We traveled here from NY - practically 24 hrs of traveling to an unwelcoming environment. At checkin we were asked for our credit card and passports. We booked this hotel over 6 months ago, and since have had to get a new card. They asked us for the exact card we purchased the room with, we told them it was compromised and that we didn’t have it. They wanted an explanation letter from the credit card company saying that we had to get a new card. We’re from the states, you’re working, we’re on vacation, you call the credit card company to confirm the logistics. We dug through pictures and credit card statements in order to prove that we paid for the room 6 months ago. Ridiculous. Then, we proceeded to add a 3rd person to the room. We showed them on the bottom of the booking receipt where it clearly says +2100 bhats for an additional person. The receptionist comes back and says it’s going to be 3000 bhats per night. She says the 2100 bhats is to add a second person, it’s 3000 to add a third. Well that makes no sense. And where does it say that? We booked a pool suite, it comes with 2 people. There’s no way we’d pay 2100 bhats extra to add a second person when it comes with 2 people. We booked directly on the hotel website - we paid over 400 USD for the room per night - you need to honor what the booking receipt says. Highway robbery. The manager, Nani, was unsympathetic and a little rude. Not 5 star service at all. Don’t bother. We got to the room where we had poor WiFi the entire stay and little to no TV visibility on the screen. We called the maintenance department and they said they’d work on it. They didn’t. We had an unclear TV the whole stay. We placed serval complaints about noisy neighbors that no one responded to. The breakfast buffet had ants everywhere where there was food being served. The buffet had a very poor selection - not to mention the hotel has a major mosquito problem all over. EMBARRASSING. I can’t believe the service here and how we were treated. I didn’t feel valued, appreciated, or respected. It maybe a 5 star hotel but don’t expect anything 5 star during your stay. Read less
