Day 1: Arrive Hanoi

This afternoon you will take a cyclo tour through the Old Quarter. Also visit the Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. Stay 2 nights at Silk Path Hotel Hanoi or similar. Please note: if the flight arrives into Hanoi at approximately 7:30am rooms at the Silk Path Hotel may not be available until early afternoon, it may be decided to undertake the Hanoi sightseeing during the morning.
Day 2: Hanoi
This excursion focuses on life on and around Hanoi’s urban railway tracks and provides the opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of Hanoians who live and work along the city’s main railway line. The tour navigates the narrow streets of the old town which are dissected by Hanoi’s main railway artery. Accustomed to the deafening noise of the passing trains, the locals go about their daily chores – cooking, cleaning and raising their families – almost oblivious to the slow moving trains. Your 40-minute stroll begins at Cua Nam Street and provides opportunities to communicate with local residents and capture some unique moments of local life until we reach the historical Long Bien Bridge, built at the beginning of the 20th century. This huge steel structure witnessed the withdrawal of French troops from Hanoi and welcomed Vietnamese soldiers liberating the capital in 1954. It was also severely damaged by bombardments during the Vietnam War due to its strategic position (the only bridge at that time across the Red River and connecting Hanoi to other provinces, particularly the crucial port in Hai Phong city). Take a short vehicle ride to see the ageing Long Bien railway station (this is an exterior visit only) and enjoy some time interacting with local street vendors before resting to enjoy a cold soft drink – or maybe a local beer! Visit the House of Ho Chi Minh before heading back to the hotel. The rest of the day will be free to explore at your own leisure. (B)
