Just returned from a 3 week Asia trip with our very last night staying at Maia Fusion. We stayed at 6 hotels during this trip, 4 of which in Vietnam, and Maia was the 2nd most expensive in Vietnam just after our stay with Banyan Tree Lang Co. Admittedly, we came to Maia after our amazing stay at Banyan so maybe our judgement was a bit tinted but we definitely expected more from Maia. First the pros: 1. The hotel common grounds are lovely. Especially the beach front area, lots of nice lounge chairs and almost feels like a private beach. 2. Overall food quality was good, everything tasted fresh. Even the seafood feast/bbq exceeded expectations. Now to the cons and the not so good... 1. The room itself is pretty run down. Walls are scratched, showers are dated and I wouldn't take a bath in that soaker tub (not at the fault of the cleaning lady..they look like old stains or marks that just won't come off). 1 set of blinds didn't close properly. The room also smells damp.. 2. Our safe also didn't work ..it ran out of battery after locking our things in. Staffs were extremely helpful in getting it open..it took about 2 hrs and they had to saw it open so lucky for us we didn't wait till check out to try to open the safe to catch a flight with our passports locked-in. Staffs were at least helpful though! 3. The bed sheets feel like they're made of polyester or plastic...If you stay inside the blanket, it is extremely hot even with AC up. 4. Worth noting construction is going on next door, but not just small construction..they're building a giant 20+ floor building till 10pm every night so if your Villa is on that side...good luck. Now to what really triggered me to write this review: 1. The hotel quoted us $41 USD for private transfer from Da Nang airport, which is 20 min away. This isn't with a Mercedes..that would cost more. While it comes with a towel and a mineral water, other private airport transport to the area would cost maybe $18USD and might also come with water! As a reference, Banyan Tree provided private transport all the way to Lang Co almost 2 hrs away also with water and towel for just $60USD, with stops along Hai Van Pass. 2. What's even more crazy, Maia quoted us $144USD for private transport from Hue. It is a longer drive, 2 hrs or so, but I got my own private driver to get us there for less than $55USD through Klook. I just feel like the resort is almost taking advantage of customers. 3. The day we left it was pouring rain, like POURING. There are no covered paths from villas to check-out or lobby. We called and they said they'll send a buggy for us and our luggage. They then came to our door and told us, no buggy, you walk...ok, but we don't have our umbrellas as we are leaving to the airport and we don't want to pack a wet umbrella. No one offered us umbrellas so we had to dig them out of our suitcases. There are also puddles as the grounds aren't even so we had soaked feet for our flights. Our suitcases were somehow transported in the rain at least and without being too wet so that is good. Overall I don't think this is worth the rate they're charging. The treatment was ok to average, and I've had much better ones at other Da Nang resorts that I paid for. I was also told minimum 2 treatments per day but can book more if there is availability, but when I arrived, check-in staff told me no, only 2 a day (spa treatment room is also quite rundown). For this pricing of stay, you will expect very good services. Yet the services is room to improve to be better and not all staff spoke with good english. Aircond was noisy and room super humid and warm. Was choosing between Fusion Maia and Intercon, would prefer Intercon next time. We arrived Fusion Maia 11:30AM and will stay one night with less than 24 hours. Bring by the staff to the Tonic Bar and request for passport for the check in purpose. Surprisingly Fusion Maia don’t have proper reception for guest to check in. After complete the check in, i was not inform with room number at all and received a name card of my Fusionista and inform by check in staff this fusionista will assist us through out the stay. However, i did not meet him for my whole stay. The room will not available until 2pm. The check in staff bring us to Maia Spa for the appointment of spa booking. I have something to highlight about their so called “two treatments guaranteed per day, per guest (more if have availability = waiting list you will not get any call of this list) must book and complete first two treatment only eligible get into waiting list for the third treatment if someone is no show/cancelling their spa. You will be told by the staff the booking is full all the time. (Which the check in staff told us we can get total 4 spa for each pax in our 2D1N stay) I really disappointed for the spa treatment. Booking for spa timing. It’s s not flexible to choose your own slot, we were told by the staff today spa booking is full. Only left one available slot which is 4:30pm and will only provide total 80 mins treatment. You are not free to choose from the variety type of treatment, the booking spa staff will told you only 2-3 type of the treatment is available on that specific timing. Again not flexibility at all to choose your own treatment. Treatment itself either come in 50 mins or 30 mins. Can’t we choose two 50 mins treatment ??! The spa booking staff will look so stressfully towards their scheduling system in order to book you in. If the system is struggling with booking, i would suggest the hotel to email guest to book spa slot in advance before arrival. It will be more flexible for the guest to arrange for the itinerary instead of waiting at the hotel do nothing and just waiting the spa/the room to be ready ?! They should have more treatment room and spa therapists as should expect all guests can easily enjoy their quality time with spa throughout the whole stay in Fusion Maia. i would suggests that it will be better guests could go for their spa for killing time while waiting for the room to be ready but too bad their staff will only serve you after 2pm and not early than this timing. I am thinking the fusionista will lead us along the resort but no one bother you to do that. We were sitting at the beach serve by water bottles and get ask by beach staff for our room number - i am so sorry that i did not know about it as your previous check in colleague did not let us know. After 2pm we get back to the tonic bar get to bring by check in staff to our room after sitting there like 10 mins. He did not let us know where and when to have our breakfast. Although we know Fusion Maia is offer with 24 hours breakfast with variety of breakfast choice. He did not inform us which restaurant that we can have our breakfast until we further asking. Quality of spa itself is quite good. My booking time is 4:30pm. One thing i did not like is their service if your treatment is for 50 mins. The staff wont come and greet you until the 4:30pm although i arrived Maia Spa 10 mins earlier. Spa staff will only greet you or ask for the booking chit when is its 4:30pm on dot. They will give ipad to fill in some necessary information for 5 mins. The spa therapist will lead you over to treatment another 5 mins. By the time they start treatment is 4:45pm. You will only enjoy quality spa for the short 35 mins. It would be much more better if you could let the guest settle the everything 5-10 mins in advance / or provide full 30/50 mins treatment from time starting so that guest won’t feel like cheated. Last thing to mentioned, as our flight is 10am. We walk from our room to so called lobby to check out our room. We were asking to wait 5 mins for staff to check the room, as we rush to airport for out flight. After 15 mins the staff do nothing there until i mentioned the grab driver already arrived to pick up us. Staff only looking for someone to check the room. I really hope Fusion Maia could do better with this pricing but the service like 2 star. Read less

Coming back to the Fusion Maia for us is like coming back to our second home. Since our first stay in August of 2011 we returned three times to refresh our Fusion Maia feeling. Nine years after the opening the resort and all it's facilities are in excellent condition, all stuff from the "Maia family" are friendly and smiling like it would be their first working day in this resort. Many of them we remember from previous stays, and of course they remember us. So it is really something like coming home. Why do we return again and again, while there are other hotels in the vicinity, that started business lately? There are a few reasons for that: first of all we like the size of the hotel with about 83 villas - not more than 200 guests if fully booked. Then we like the architecture of the resort and the Japanese design of the villas. We like the private pools in the backyard of the villas. We like the fusion food at breakfast in the restaurant, we love the beach with golden sands and clean ocean water, and we like the spa treatments - the Fusion Maia spa is well recognized and highly esteemed throughout Asia. Most importantly - all the people making it possible for the guests day by day to have a relaxing time in the Fusion Maia. During our stay in August 2016 it became clear that in direct naibourhood of the hotel there will be construction of a new building ongoing. Now - 3 years later - it is clearly visible that this building will be huge - we were told that it will be used as a conference center for 5000 guests. If this becomes reality then this will change the entire location - no more quietness, and no more empty beaches. Already now the privacy in the backyards of the villas and the private pools is over. We were assigned a villa as far away from the construction site as possible, and still it was impossible not to see this huge concrete monolith. The hotel management is doing everything they can to compensate for the noise from the construction site - they even grow bigger coconut palm trees, but this will not really bring back the privacy in the outdoor areas of the villas. However, sitting in the restaurant, laying on a massage bench in the spa, being in your private villa - you do not see the new building. And the entire concept of the Fusion Maia remains unique (even they have sister resorts with a similar concept in Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc now). But neither of the 2 newer resorts has Hoi An at a 30 minute driving distance. And this is another reason for us to return to the Fusion Maia - we love Hoi An - the UNESCO World Heritage ancient city, which has been turning into a buzzling tourist place lately. We noticed that over the previous decade basically all beach properties from Da Nang to Hoi An were sold to big hotel chains and real estate companies. Everybody wants to be there. Even smaller hotel chains from other Asian countries such as Alila, Dusit Thani and others will be opening hotels in the near future at prime beach sites. However, we will be returning to our fav. Fusion Maia Resort - only here we can get the Fusion Maia feeling of balance and harmony. Read less

Excellent resort! Numerous highlights - pool in the room, close proximity to pool and beach, great breakfast buffet, wonderful spa treatments. Best feature - the friendliness and helpfulness of the entire staff. Outstanding service - well worth the price.

It was a great experience. Massage and private pool were quite nice. Unfortunately, slightly high building has been constructed very near by the resort. I am just worrying about the privacy of guests.
