Pullman Danang Beach Resort

Danang and Hoi An, Vietnam

The hotel

Preened to perfection, every element of Pullman Danang feels effortlessly refined, from your highly-styled guest room to the reflection ponds and manicured lawns leading down to the beachfront. Your private balcony puts the spotlight on the tropical grounds, with its views over either the gardens, the cashmere white sands of Bac My An Beach, or the infinity swimming pool, where the simplicity of its design adds to the hotel’s contemporary edge. Hours not spent in the sea or pool, can be lavishly squandered at The Nang Spa and in the eating and drinking spaces. On top of all-day gourmet dining at Epice, there’s the pure spa cuisine and locally sourced food of Azure Beach Lounge, in its secluded spot by the sands, and the casual bites and beverages of Infinity Bar, with its eye-diverting pond views and seascapes.

I wouldn't say this hotel was particularly a 5* - maybe a very high 3* or a pretty low 4* perhaps? I wouldn't say this hotel was particularly a 5* - maybe a very high 3* or a pretty low 4* perhaps? The first impression - it has a lot of open spaces which was nice and the view through the lobby to the pool and sea area is really lovely - postcard esque. However, on closer inspection, whilst the pool and pool area is clean, it seems there is a LOT of wasted space, certainly not enough sunbeds or pool space for the busier periods, luckily we were here in October through to November, so this wasn't an issue for us. The pool is very beautiful at night time as it has LED lights around it and the beach bar and area around is pretty luxurious. The gym is good, for a hotel gym anyway. I could never locate the sauna or steam room advertised? The other thing we noticed was the distinct lack of air conditioning, even being in the lobby much later in the year, it was stuffy and sticky and not very comfortable. There are also very few plug points. To begin with, our room was not ready upon arrival (it was around 3.30 pm) however, it took the reception desk staff around 4 to 5 phone calls to establish this - they were also calling the desk opposite them - guest services (a little strange) and took around 20 minutes to tell us. This was really frustrating as we'd only travelled from Hoi An (around half an hour away) and we'd booked a tour and planned to just drop off our bags, freshen up and then head out. We explained this to them and received no apology or explanation - we were just told to go to the bar and wait? The room is spacious and comfortable with nice, modern but basic decor (I wouldn't say this is 5* by any means though) the bathroom set up is very unusual, personally I liked it and thought it was a nice, quirky feature that added space and light to the bathroom but I can see why some people wouldn't. It's a large open window into the shower and bath from the bedroom that isn't really avoidable. Fine for open couples but if you are staying here with a friend or whoever and just like your privacy - it could be awkward! The cleanliness of the room was different everyday, some days it would be a pretty high standard, other days we were left questioning whether anyone had cleaned at all or whether they'd just made the bed and left? We're not messy people and I am pretty OCD with organising personal items, clothes etc but nevertheless it was questionable at times. The big thing that stood out and hampered our experience was the staff, no-one seems to know what's going on, most times service is not with a smile and they seem to have to check everything with about 10 different people for basic queries, training definitely needs work! The staff are absolutely friendly and not rude at all they just aren't helpful. Simple things like - is there a buffet on at the restaurant tonight, what is the best way of getting to Ba Na hills was to be honest, such an ordeal that we gave up asking for help! We also had vouchers through secret escapes and enquired as to the limitations and not one person seemed to know, they sent us walking around the hotel, looking for different people and each different member passed us onto another. In the end, we gave up. One thing that did stand out, was the breakfast buffet, the chef/cooking staff were really friendly and spoke to us more than the waitresses did who seem to just run at you as soon as you walk in the door, demand whether you have paid or not and your room number to see if it is included sit you down, regardless of where you want to sit and how many spaces there are and then leave you to it, why is this necessary? If anything it's quite rude, not the way things should be done. Either leave everyone to it from the get go or see the whole "experience" through. The food at breakfast was really very nice and a big variety, replenishment seemed swift. However, don't try to go down for breakfast after 10 - despite the buffet advertised as being on until 10.30 they start to clear up at 10 - very frustrating when you just want to relax or have a lay in! The taxis in the hotel grounds AVOID AVOID AVOID. They charge super inflated rates (around 200% more) than a grab (app similar to uber) or a arranging a car through the hotel. I'm not sure why they allow them to be here to be honest as they are a little bit of a scam! The location is good, beach is beautiful, even though at this time of the year swimming is not permitted due to the strength of the undercurrent and there are some fab restaurants within walking distance to suit all budgets! All in all, it leaves much to be desired and didn't quite live up to our expectations - you can find better hotels in the area for the same, if not a cheaper price. I did feel a little let down as Accor Hotels historically for me personally, are amazing. This one, a bit of a let down to the Accor name. Read less
