Intercontinental Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The hotel

Rooting you right in Ho Chi Minh City, InterContinental Saigon is moments from big-name sights like Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Saigon Post Office. It may sit amid HCMC’s history, but it still keeps up with this very modern metropolis – thanks to its contemporary guestrooms, five star service, health club and spa (with everything from a rooftop pool to Yoga Under the Sky classes), and a coveted spot attached to the mPlaza retail and dining hub. This luxury InterContinental pad has its own dining delights of course, including a trattoria-style Italian, a sophisticated cocktail bar, the Cantonese and Peking dishes of Yu Chu, and the seven kitchens of Market 39.

Was here for three nights earlier this week. Good location. Clean and perfectly adequate. Breakfast was good but limited vegetarian options. Only issue was rooms are a bit old & smelt a bit damp plus the hair dryers were so useless they barely worked. These are so minor issues. Should not put you off.

Upon checking out, I handed a written note in English and Vietnamese stating that I have a temporary voice impairment because of illness and unable to speak regularly; however, I am able to whisper. As I tried to communicate with the staff regarding my billing, etc., she could not contained herself and started to laugh out loudly. It was very embarrassing. Unfortunately, with no avail, other staff members and a supervisor (in black suit) present did nothing to intervene or accommodate my situation. Further, due to lack of empathy and insensitivity from the staff, I vehemently uttered out to see the manager. It was a very uncomfortable and anguishing experience. Fortunately, the hotel manager and director for rooms approached me and professionally addressed my traumatic predicament. Hopefully, training and staff development will better address sensitivity/diversity issues as a major part of their ongoing inservice issues as a major part of their ongoing inservice training and that it is embraced seriously by frontline customer service staff. Customers should be treated as valued guests regardless of one’s physical impairment and not be immaturely judged and laughed at by customer service staff. As a Spire IHG rewards member, I have stayed at the InterContinental Saigon seven times. This was the worse treatment I have ever experienced at this hotel and any other IHG facility before. A supposedly 5 star luxury hotel should have staff that are matured and professionally groomed to interact with a diversity of customers on a highly decent and civil manner. Read less

The hotel is no more than average, below par the swimming pool (extremely small like the fitness room) Breakfast again very below par vs intercontinental standard especially in a country where food is excellent. Very negative feeling for the staff, borderline rude and not making you feeling in a 5 star hotel. There are many other better… Read more
