Delta Hotels by Marriott Banff Royal Canadian Lodge

Banff, Alberta

The hotel

Giving you that authentic ‘lodge look’, this Banff Avenue basecamp has dressed for the occasion, fitted out in cool stone and warm lumber. It’s a far cry from a little log cabin though, with its dramatic glazed entrance and grand lobby giving a taste of the modern edge waiting in your guest room, with its complimentary WiFi. Ten minutes from downtown Banff’s shopping and dining scene, its lodge-meets-luxury ethos extends to other attractions at Royal Canadian Lodge too. Take the refined Albertan menu at Evergreen Restaurant and Lounge, where local organic ingredients are sourced to deliver that true mountain flavour. And the inviting intimacy of Grotto Spa, whose mineral pool, whirlpool, eucalyptus steam room, and organic vegan treatments are set to a backdrop of slate rocks, tumbling waterfall waters, and cosy tranquillity.

This was a very middle of the road, clean, comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. It wasn’t anything special but it was certainly adequate. I wish it had been a little closer to the downtown area.

We stayed here for a week and enjoyed the hotel very much. It was at the end of the busy downtown location but well within walking distance. The hotel staff was exceptional, especially Jacob the concierge. Lots of great tips on sites for see and places to eat. The restaurant, while a bit pricey, was outstanding. Breakfast was around $30 for 2 people each morning. But this included too much food for us to eat. A shame really... Dinner was also pricey, entrees were around $35-45 per person. We opted for the price fixe menu one night and it was well worth it. Again, too much food. My husband asked if he could have his fruit dessert with breakfast the next day and they accommodated that with no issue at all. Read less

The hotel and rooms are very old. They definitely need some work done on this hotel for the price guests are paying. Lighting in the rooms are fluorescent, I felt like I was back in grade school. The room was a good size, but for some reason, the coffee maker was in the bathroom next the the trash can. The pool is embarrassing and I wish I… Read more

The room was a good size, but for some reason, the coffee maker was in the bathroom next the the trash can. The pool is embarrassing and I wish I have taken a photo of it. The pool is the size of a large bathtub. The hotel isn’t great, but it did offer free Starbucks coffee in the lobby in the morning and the hotel is in town, close to restaurants and shopping. Would I recommend this hotel???? Probably not for the amount paid. Read less

We did not use the pool or spa area during this stay. Our meals were served to us in a different room to the main restaurant (as we were 40 + folks on a coach tour). Breakfast buffet was adequate at best and I did ask waiting staff for a fried egg with my breakfast and was told no, this is it. There was one 4 slot domestic toaster which was completely inadequate for the amount of people trying to toast their bread!! Read less

This is a franchise and by no means indicative of the Delta brand. It was ok...location was ok....hotel a little worn but ok....team a little lacking but ok.....room was ok....really nothing stood out at this hotel but nothing was really bad.
