Delta Hotels by Marriott Banff Royal Canadian Lodge

Banff, Alberta

The hotel

Giving you that authentic ‘lodge look’, this Banff Avenue basecamp has dressed for the occasion, fitted out in cool stone and warm lumber. It’s a far cry from a little log cabin though, with its dramatic glazed entrance and grand lobby giving a taste of the modern edge waiting in your guest room, with its complimentary WiFi. Ten minutes from downtown Banff’s shopping and dining scene, its lodge-meets-luxury ethos extends to other attractions at Royal Canadian Lodge too. Take the refined Albertan menu at Evergreen Restaurant and Lounge, where local organic ingredients are sourced to deliver that true mountain flavour. And the inviting intimacy of Grotto Spa, whose mineral pool, whirlpool, eucalyptus steam room, and organic vegan treatments are set to a backdrop of slate rocks, tumbling waterfall waters, and cosy tranquillity.

It was really nice when it wasn't busy. At one point children did come in and start jumping into the pool and making lots of noise. I am surprised there is no rule for adults to accompany them. Bed was amazing and really comfy. A short walk from the main downtown area. The gym room was decent. No one else was ever in there so that was nice. The restaurant is very expensive and was not the best. We accidentally went into the restaurant and not the bar area for food as well. I think that could be made a bit clearer which menu you are there to see. Read less

Have stayed at this property in the past , so was looking forward to another great experience. I was wrong! To start we arrived during the paving of Banff Ave, so acesss to the hotel was denied. After figuring out how to get to the back of the hotel and find a parking spot we parked. We then had to walk about block to enter the lobby. The hotel desk clerk, informed me they didn't know the paving was starting, I noticed signs all along the avenues that paving was May 8 - 17. I asked if they had a plan on how to get luggage to room. The young concierge was uneasy and finally asked if he could get our things, By this time I said never mind give me the trolley and we will walk and get our luggage. The clerk suggested maybe later the underground parking would be accessible, I then asked what time in the morning will the paving crews start as we needed to get the car out early. An unknown response from her. Less than helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would think there would be a plan in place for visitors arriving, ie, golf carts to take people to their cars and help with luggage. Thankfully we were able to walk BUT whatabout the people with mobilitiy issues???? The clerk said I should talk to the Town of Banff about the paving. Less than professional. I realize paving needs to be done, but hotel staff needed a plan of action to help the visitors arriving through the back. Settled in and walked to town centre. After a long day, came back to room after supper. Decided to have a bath. As I was getting ready and shut the bathroom door, there was on the hook a pair of mens black underwear and a green t shirt, which was obviously left by previous guest. A call down to front desk brought immediate response and the poor young concierge once again had to issue an apology. As I checked out nothing was said to me. I gave a review to the hotel and I received the "generic" response from the manager. I realize things happen , but I felt if things were addressed in a proper manner , it would be much better. Would I stay at this property again ? Mostly likely not. There are so many other properties of same and / or equal value. Read less

Although not the busy season for Banff I was overly impressed with the level of customer service. Stayed 2 nights and beginning to end the staff could not do enough to ensure we were happy. We would definitely stay here again.

Loved our week long stay. Very clean, great location. But the biggest plus was the staff- easily some of the friendliest and polite workers we have had at any hotel anywhere. All were helpful- lobby, valet, you name it.

As a platinum member of Marriott.. we were offered a welcome gift to choose between 1000 Marriott Points or free breakfast. We chose to have the free breakfast but turned out it was a very simple breakfast. From the menu, you can choose to have fruits, yoghurt, danish or croissant plus a toasted bread, cereal and tea/coffee . That’s all you can… Read more
