Elk & Avenue

Banff, Alberta

The hotel

Elk + Avenue delivers on contemporary style, without sacrificing the mountain lodge feel those bound for Banff seek. Dressed with Rocky Mountain inspired details, rustic meets high-polish with rough cut timber, cosy seating, and the odd touch of faux fur. Its indulgences aren’t all decorative though, and alongside its downtown location, it gives you complimentary WiFi and parking, and a sauna and hot tub. At the forefront of Banff’s dining scene, Ricky’s All Day Grill is among the most popular in this ski-side town, with its big breakfasts and all-day diner classics drawing in hungry locals and travellers. It takes its après-ski seriously too, with the seasonal drink selections and twilight menu of RG’s Lounge best enjoyed around its toasty fireplace, in front of the plasma TVs, or on the patio watching the world pass by.

I booked two rooms and chose to pay later. When checking in I noticed one of the rooms is $100 higher than the other although they are the exact same room, same night, same floor. Each has two queen beds. On the website, it says the capacity is 4 adults per room. We were 5adults so 3 stayed in one room and two in the other. The front desk said… Read more

The front desk said because there are three persons we had to charge you more. I have never had this experience before! The staff were not helpful and the manager did not even bother to come talk to us when we asked. I felt I was cheated and ripped off. I paid $235 per night for a very basic room. The spa was very dirty. Everything was disappointing! Never again! Read less

Upon arrival they even upgraded us to a larger suite which was fantastic. The only negative I could say about the place is for some reason the hotel hall AC/Heater units were always blasting cold air out. Not sure why you want to waste blasting cold air out into the hallways to make it even more cold than it already is. BUt otherwise we had a wonderful stay Read less

Great hotel, good value. Nice location to our bus stop on the corner. Staff were all very friendly and knowledgable. Cute gift shop in the lobby and Good Earth coffee shop as well. Rooms were all very clean and well maintained, and the beds were on of the comfiest I have experienced in a hotel.

Have stayed the last three nights in one of the suites. I understand you should have lower expectations in mountain towns due to the high cost of operating. But for the price I’d highly recommend a lower cost accommodation in Banff. The rooms are scantily furnished, half our room was pitch black with a battery operated lantern for a light that was out of batteries. The bar is more or less non existent, the two times I attempted to visit the bar/restaurant I promptly left due to the lack of service or watching the patronage audibly lament the lack of service to the wait staff. Having traveled to multiple countries I can understand a different level of service expectation. But for Banff this hotel is below average and is priced well above... Read less
