Sunshine Mountain Lodge

Banff, Alberta

The hotel

It could sell out purely because it’s the only ski-in/ski-out hotel in Banff National Park, but the team behind Sunshine Mountain Lodge didn’t think that was enough. Pulling out all the stops, they’ve also packed in the area’s biggest al fresco hot pool, an indulgent spa, a ski boutique (so you can travel light and arrive on the slopes bang on trend), huge windows that frame the incredible scenery, a family room with everything from Wii to a pool table, and evening activities like movie nights, snowshoeing, and tobogganing. Dressed in wood and stone, the lodge delivers on authentic Rockies charm too — and on true mountain après-ski (and pre-ski) treats, with its gondola-side café and crêperie, Canadian bistro, grill bar, smokehouse, and Chimney Corner Lounge, where you can cosy up around the fire each night, with rich hot chocolate.

Fantastic first time family trip to Banff Sunshine Mountain Lodge. Everything was great from the rooms to the restaurants to the family activities. The skiing terrain was great too. There was something for everyone launching right out the front door.

The hotel has a great location, right on the slopes and is quite nice. Hotel staff at check-in at the base and hotel front desk all were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a great location, right on the slopes and is quite nice. Hotel staff at check-in at the base and hotel front desk all were very friendly and helpful. The hot tub is nice but could use an update and some repairs. Mold in the room's bathtub definitely needs to be taken care of, otherwise the rooms are small but nice and comfy and well equipped. The only major downside and definitely a reason to never stay there again is the F&B part of the hill. Dinner at the hotel was mediocre at best, service matched the food. Breakfast was extremely slow (1.5 hours total) and food simply inedible. The only good food we had was at Trappers Pub. It's simple but decent pub food. After seeing the job ad from Aramark for the resort chef as well as hotel chef I'd highly recommend to match the manager's salaries to the high prices you're charging your guests. Maybe that way you could actually deliver the quality of food and service that would match the price guests are charged. The conclusion of all this is that there is great potential for a fabulous spot to spend a few days but as it is right now I'll never return and no one in our group will either. Read less

Nestled into a quaint village in the Rocky Mountains, this place is spectacular! Great food, great service, waking up on the ski hill, yoga, tobogganing, hot tubing. 3 days wasn't enough time, we will be back!

This is the perfect spot to absord the beautiful scenery, comfortable lodgings and great skiing ski in ski out. Highly recommended! It is also so pleasant to find no cars and to step out from the lodge onto the hill.

The location is obviously amazing, and the rooms are nice, but the food is so terrible, I would never stay there again. Every meal, in all the restaurants was beyond bad. You would be better off to stay in Banff
