Sunshine Mountain Lodge

Banff, Alberta

The hotel

It could sell out purely because it’s the only ski-in/ski-out hotel in Banff National Park, but the team behind Sunshine Mountain Lodge didn’t think that was enough. Pulling out all the stops, they’ve also packed in the area’s biggest al fresco hot pool, an indulgent spa, a ski boutique (so you can travel light and arrive on the slopes bang on trend), huge windows that frame the incredible scenery, a family room with everything from Wii to a pool table, and evening activities like movie nights, snowshoeing, and tobogganing. Dressed in wood and stone, the lodge delivers on authentic Rockies charm too — and on true mountain après-ski (and pre-ski) treats, with its gondola-side café and crêperie, Canadian bistro, grill bar, smokehouse, and Chimney Corner Lounge, where you can cosy up around the fire each night, with rich hot chocolate.

Given the restrictions posed by covid we understood that we would have to eat in our room but the food was not only grossly expensive it was largely inedible. When my two teenaged sons refused to touch much of what we ordered you know it’s bad. The 22 dollar Cobb salad was particularly nasty- dry chunks of cubes of precooked chicken with chunks of block cheddar cheese with overcooked hardboiled eggs and avocados turning slightly dark because they’ve sat out too long - gross Because this hotel is the only game in town for dinner (trappers closed at 4 and the cafeteria in the lodge closes after lunch) we were snookered. The room was meh- old and needed updating . Staff were very nice and location was great but we won’t stay again ... part of a great vacation is decent food and that was ruined for us. Read less

Love staying at Sunshine Mountain Lodge! Service and staff are exceptional and go above and beyond. The cleanliness of the all areas of the hotel from rooms to lobby to the locker rooms is above and beyond. Great service and food at the restaurant. Looking forward to staying and skiing next season!

We are a young family of 6 and were a bit apprehensive with how the stay was going to work with bringing everything up the gondola, etc. but the staff have the whole process really figured out. We loved being right at the base of the chairlift and were thoroughly impressed with the friendliness of the staff. We had a blast and can't wait to stay… Read more

Our stay at Sunshine Mountain Lodge was wonderful from start to finish. Our rooms were great. We booked the smaller 3 person rooms but they were very well laid out and perfect for our family. The staff were friendly and helpful. And the best part was being able to hit the slopes straight out of our door!!!
