Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great staying at Hotel MacDonald

Great service and great room. Beautiful view of the Edmonton River Valley from our room and the pool and hot tub were well maintained. The only downside is that all services and dining are too expensive.

Take a step back in time when you enter the hotel. It’s got a historic feel. The bar lounge area is relaxing, Moe behind the bar providing awesome service. The out door area, view and gardens are a great place to soak up a bygone era. Unfortunately the hotel was very busy on the long weekend. My room faced the street and not the awesome view over the river. We couldn’t get a seat at breakfast and the buffet closed at 10am? Disappointed. My room was large bed comfortable, bathroom is small and stepping into a deep bath/shower with no slip mat or hand rail a challenge, could be very difficult for those not stable of their feet. We had a wonderful stay at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald!! The room was very spacious for a Fairmont hotel. The service was outstanding as always (the special touches are always such a nice surprise) and the lounge, restaurant and patio were all exceptional. Fairmont hotels are always our first choice when traveling!

Its a shame but it lets itself down. A 4 star hotel needs to be just that and this one misses several ticks. Lets start positive - beautiful rooms, well fitted out in a relatively recent refurb and super comfy beds. Really well cooked and served food by friendly staff The public rooms are beautiful but somehow a bit soulless BUT No fresh milk or free water in the fridge only those horrible capsules and only a very mean supply of coffee and tea (which was excellent tea by the way spoilt with capsule milk.) The advertised extra supplies were not in the fridge. Quality control missing here as had to send down for hairdryers. No coffee shop as such and no expertise available in the hotel for travel advice etc SO having travelled extensively in Europe and elsewhere it really does not live up to its 4 star rating probably because like many North American luxury hotels they reserve the real 4 star service for their loyalty card holders which I will refrain from commenting on. Really great place to visit! One of the nicest hotels I've ever been to in Canada. The Fairmont Gold Floor is really nice and the staff are amazing. Private concierge and check-in and check-out are very convenient. The manager Philip was also really great and remembered our wine and candy choices.
