Only thing that could have been better was the linens in the bed. The down comforter was between two separate sheets and (if you’re a restless sleeper like me) the sheets came off the comforters and resulted in me having contact with the down comforter. I’m sure they don’t wash the comforter after every guest so that grossed me out. Otherwise awesome place to spend his birthday! Read less

I recently stayed at the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge on November 18th and 19th evenings. I brought my family with me and booked a 1 Bedroom Bi-Level Loft, a Family Room and a Guest Room for both nights. I also booked the Nordic Spa for my wife and two daughters. My daughter, her husband and their 2-year old and 3-year old stayed in the Family Room. At 2:00 am on the first night of their stay, they awoke to a temperature of 15 degrees. They spent the rest of the night checking on their babies every hour making sure that they had blankets on them and were not too cold. In the morning, they contacted the front desk and notified them that they had no heat. They sent a technician to their room. He initially indicated that he felt he would not be able to fix the heating and offered to bring more standalone heaters. He did eventually attempt to fix the heating and was able to fix it. They were clearly having some mechanical issues that week - they had a garden hose pumping hot water into the waterslide pool to warm it up. I called the front desk on the evening of our last night and let them know that I was not pleased that there was not heat in the Family Room and let them know that I was not prepared to pay for the night for the Family Room as I expected a room in the mountains in the middle of November to have heat. The manager said he was not prepared to credit the room because we did not call before they went to bed. I explained to him that we did not call because the room was 19 degrees when they went to bed and they turned up the heat fully trusting that the heat would come on and warm up the room. Then he said that they should have called at 2:00 am and requested a move to another room. I’m not sure if you have children but they were not about to wake up a 2 and 3-year old at 2:00 am, fold up their cribs, re-pack everything in their room at 2:00 am and move to another room. They chose to let the babies sleep and check on them regularly through the night which made for a very sleepless night for them. I feel my request for a full credit of one night for the Family Room was reasonable considering that, after all, heat is a basic expectation of a $300 room in the mountains in November. In the end, the manager did agree to credit one-half of the room rate. Read less

Previous plans to go to Europe were kiboshed by the pandemic, so we decided to stay close to home (Calgary) and get away from the city. We had previously stayed at the Lodge when it was a Delta. The hotel has been kept up well through the lobby and common areas. Our room was a lofted king bed room in Building F. It was comfortable, a bit drafty with the constant A/C on. We ate at Forte for a lunch and two dinners, and used the Cafe for quick breakfasts. The staff at Forte were beyond friendly and incredibly helpful beyond the meal, giving us advice about hikes to do in the area. The portions were large, the pizzas great, the pastas good. We booked into the Nordic Spa for a 9-2:30 slot. The weather was VERY windy, as a chinook was blowing overhead. This made for some interesting times in the pools. Lunch at the Spa was reasonable, the staff friendly. Covid precaution signage was well laid out and descriptive. Compliant mask-wear from all guests and staff. Read less

We're new to Alberta and on a whim, we decided to bring the kids into the mountains for a couple days before it gets too cold. Didn't go to the spa, just stayed in the hotel's "Family room" (2 room suite) for a night. THE GOOD: Location - Obviously, this is the big draw. It is picturesque, lots of mountains, and there are a bunch of amazing trails that are (pretty much) within walking distance of the hotel. Water park - The kids went mental for this. You have to book time in advance (because of COVID) but we did so without issue, and it was great. Food (quality) - the pizza and chicken wings from Forte were amazing. THE BAD: Prices - Everything was quite expensive. The hotel room itself was very basic and somewhat dated, definitely not worth the price - you're paying for the location, not the room. The food, while great, was overpriced. They wanted to charge a delivery fee to bring it to your room(?!), and even when you go pick it up yourself, there is a surprise "open food" charge on it (see attached). It definitely felt like at every opportunity they were trying to gouge you. Toilet - The toilet was already clogged when we got to our room. The (great!) staff tried to fix it and said they did, but they didn't. So for the duration of the trip I had to take kids down to the lobby when they had to use the bathroom. Very annoying. Hard to fault them for this as it is kind of out of their hands, but for several hundred dollars a night I feel like a working toilet should be included. Overall was a good trip, but I'm not sure that I'd go out of my way to stay at this specific hotel again. Read less
