My daughter was given a gift card for this facility and was SO excited to have a weekend get away at a place with fond memories for our family (reviewed July 2015 when it was the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis), However, booking online was confusing as there was no place to input the gift card. After a lot of clicking around, she finally called the lodge and was told to just input her credit card and the gift card would be used at check out. On arrival, she went in to check in and was told not only that the full amount of the rooms (much more pricey than when the property was Delta) would be charged to her credit card, there would also be a DAMAGE DEPOSIT of 200$. She is a young adult just starting to travel on her own and isn't always certain how things work or what questions to ask; not to mention having a credit card with a low amount available. When she attempted to problem solve with the front desk staff by offering to use her debit card for a partial payment as well as her credit card, she was told that if she did that the damage deposit would be 500$?! She asked if they could use the gift card and then she could pay the difference but was told no, this could only be done at check out.... with no explanation. Front desk staff did not seem to be able to help problem solve in any way, and after calls to me and her sister, she and her travel companion used 3 different cards (?!!) to cover all of the expenses up front. This was not at all indicated in either of the 2 confirmations emails and on the website, there is a clear statement that the credit card is used only to hold the room and that no charges would be applied. As well, I'd like to note that no where in 2 different confirmaion emails was there mention of a damage depoit and nor was there mention of such on the website when I went in to see if I had missed something in helping her book. Fortunately, they were able to put this unpleasant encounter behind them and enjoy the weekend. Then, upon check out, front desk staff were not able to figure out how to refund all the money that had been placed on the cards so the gift card could be used. After 30 minutes of this, the manager finally advised that the refund could only be given in 300$ incriments, necessitating 3 separate transactions... again! After these 2 experiences, my daughter and her friend have both said they would never return to that lodge. Sad as Kananaskis is beautiful and the Lodge used to be such a high light. And given she's a young adult, will be choosing travel for many years to come, just not to this location. Marriotte, have a look at your policies in this situation and make some decisions that facilitate the traveller's positive exerience. I have never been asked to pay a damage deposit at this lodge (or any other hotel), and while I find it discriminatory, if this is an age related policy, I understand that hotels want to ensure young adults are behaved. However, if there is going to be a damage deposit, make that clear in the confirmation emails and on your website. Read less

Kananakis is such a beautiful place. It was super busy and A LOT of folks brought their dogs. Totally acceptable however we experienced: 1) an off leash dog in our hallway that took a run at us 2) multiple dogs with owners in an inside seating area that's clearly marked for service animals only 3) A chorus of dogs barking at one another inside… Read more

It was a real turn off. Read less

This is our second visit in the past 3 years at the Pomeroy Kananaskis and I’m completely shocked. Perhaps it’s the popularity of the hotel now, but I would say it’s anything but luxurious, and more of a high end motel. Escaping for the long weekend and our first vacation since COVID, we were so excited, especially after working endless hours at the hospital this past year and a half. Unfortunately, we’ve experienced nothing but disappointment after disappointment and we’re currently on night one of three!!! - Check in: The front desk employee barely acknowledged our existence and seemed more annoyed that we were yet another guest coming to stay this weekend. We arrived a bit early and were told housekeeping was behind so our room wasn’t ready. Totally understandable, but the staff member didn’t really provide us any options until we asked if we could access any of the amenities. She said yes we could but she didn’t provide us any guidance for same. So off we went, tracking down the bell desk to take our luggage and off we went to the pool to await a call when our room was ready. Fast forward 2 hours and we still hadn’t received a call so we went back to the desk and ooops, our room was ready but they forgot to inform us!!! - The pool: The changes rooms are cringe worthy. Hair, water and sludge on the floor and not an employee to be seen. At least there were towels to keep you some what clean, but just gross overall. This pool/water park is great for kids, so family wise, it’s a blast for the kiddos but my goodness, having a bit of up keep so wet towels we’re not scattered all around would be appreciated! - Forte restaurant: Decent food but all those families with kids in the pool earlier? Well guess what? They’re all now in this restaurant, grabbing food from the buffet and without supervison, you can imagine how hygienic this turns out to be. - COVID precautions: Great checking of IDs and proof of vaccination, but again, when the hotel is packed to the brim with people and not high standard for masking in the restaurant, it all seemed pointless. - Pets: OK, I get it. Pet friendly is good but shouldn’t there be a limit?!? Most families had two dogs and many had more! To the point that my kids complained that all they could smell in the hallways and our sheets were dogs! There are so many other disappointing concerns we have but those seem menial to the one mentioned above. In short, if you’re looking forward to some R & R, this is 100% not the place. If you’re looking for an overpriced vacation surrounded by dogs and loud, screaming kids, with staff who look as exhausted as you feel after a day here, you’ll be right at home at the Pomeroy Kananaskis. Note: We are traveling as a family of four, with two young kids who purposely booked at the end of the long weekend to avoid the crowd. We were wrong as the crowd is definitely here and even our kids are complaining about how crazy it is here! Read less

My husband and I have traveled all over the world and also worked in hospitality. Although there were positives, we wouldn't stay at the Pomeroy again. Positives: -Julie at concierge was AMAZING and went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic. -Beautiful location and great scenery -Easy access to many hikes and outdoor adventures -loved the lattes at Market Cafe -all staff were super friendly and happy -complimentary smores and hot chocolate each night by the fire was a nice added touch Negatives : -room was gross/dirty and although they came to make efforts to clean it to our standards, they missed the same things they did did first time e.g bathroom was dirty with splatters of toothpaste etc. , mirrors were not clean, lots of handprints all over surfaces and counters etc. These would've been yucky on a good day, but with Covid, I would've expected spotless on all surfaces. -although food was yummy, really pricey...but we can understand eith the remote location that this is why. -wait times for check in... there were often long line ups!! -wait times for restaurants was average 1 1/2 hours each night. Once again...food was good, but the wait was much too long. Had we had our daughter with us, this would've been a much bigger problem. Suggestions : -have a waiter/waitress taking drink orders in the main lounge area while guests wait for their dinner reservations. It was SUPER awkward to have to sneak into the Blacktail bar to wait at the bar to get a drink and then sneak back out to find a place to sit. We didn't want to leave our dirty cups in the lounge area so we brought them back to the bar which was also awkward... a bar staff could've done that and made guests more at ease/comfort. -providing some sort of live guitar or piano music to the main lounge would've also create da beautiful ambiance and made the 1.5 hour wait for dinner time enjoyable. Nothing spectacular, it was all decent room wise. What we didn't like - was that there is a water park, so the hotel is teaming with children ALL THE TIME - include the restaurants. But if you're on a family trip, I'm sure it's great. When booking - note, this hotel is not close to anything - you are about 40 minutes one way to get to Banff. You are however in a great place for hiking! Restaurants were good - the food was great actually and the service. My rating of 3 stars, is because it was what it was. Nothing over the top, but nothing terrible. If you are looking for a very quiet an relaxing place, this is not it. Read less
